The Serpent's Orchard Pictura Fragrans 2025

Be careful. This could be a trap. The fig is here, luscious, open, showing itself in a way that its almost obscene. Honey is not really prominent but adds that brightness on the pulp that really, really makes it almost vulgar but inviting. But there is more. This is a good green, and I'm not a lover of green, usually... But this one, is menacing. Thrilling. This is not just an offer, something is hiding between the leaves. I don't get any yogurt, but probably it adds something to the thickness of it. A very good snake-scent, you're about to be bitten.

First of all, I rarely like figs. The fig note here is a little to figgy for my taste, but it's a very interesting scent anyway because it's got some odd green but indolic note that feels threatening (I can't describe it in any other way), the rose somehow adds to the menacing atmosphere. I can see why it's called the Serpent's Orchard, I really do feel like something is watching me from the fig trees, when I smell this fragrance. I can't see the serpent but I know it is there.

Plummy sweet fig with a spicier base -- almost like a mulled wine with the myrrh, amber, mace -- versus the green fig leaf that usually shows up in fig fragrances. It's sweet without being dense, so it almost feels fresh -- like smelling fruit pie in crisp fall air. I imagine overripe figs, plums, and honey on a wood board, sitting on the table during a festive autumn party.

The modern biblical vision of the perfumer DL Jenkins touches me deeply - just like the name and fragrance composition of Qetora Zohar.
I associate the scent of a fig tree, its leaves and fruits, with the Greek islands. We love to vacation there and always look forward to tasting fresh figs from the "trees of knowledge" :)
We don’t sneak like snakes into gardens, but we find fig trees in overgrown ditches (hence the nettles) and have to watch out for bees and wasps that also want to enjoy the fallen fruits. The sweet fig juice running down our chins brings us a sense of well-being, similar to inhaling myrrh or amber, or visiting the house of a well-known beekeeper.
I know the latter very well too - we used to keep bees in our garden and on our meadow, and I gladly helped my husband with "the honey harvest" :)
I personally wouldn’t recognize Tokaj wine in the fragrance, but when I think of its taste, I agree with the perfumer: Tokaj interestingly complements the ingredients.
Overall, "The Snake's Orchard" feels soft, round, and warm to me … like the moment when you dare to stroke the giant snake skin or take a spoonful of fresh honey into your mouth on a sunny day.
