All I get is a bitter taste in my mouth
This is the first Pineward that hasn't worked with my skin chemistry and that I've actively disliked. Sniffing the atomiser and on paper, it wasn't one of my favorites, but seemed like it could be interesting. In my notes, I described the blotter test as "SUPER fresh and green, reminds me of freshly crushed mint in the garden". Those are things I generally like.

However, on my skin it turns into an extremely bitter woody scent. At first there was enough freshness that I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, but it only got worse as time went on. It smells pretty much exactly like Encre Noir, which I can't wear as I find the bitterness sickening. This doesn't have the beast mode performance of Encre Noir, but it's still one of the more persistent Pinewards, enough so that I had to scrub it off as it was annoying me (and making me sneeze).

Reading other people's reviews of this make me think I surely can't be smelling the same fragrance. Sweet? Pine tree? Powdery? Balsamic? "spicy amber wood" (the olfactory category my decant supplier puts it in)? I don't get any of that. Just this overwhelming bitterness that I feel like I can almost taste. Such a shame...

a forest dusted with powdery sweetness
A lovely new addition to Pinewards long slew of coniferous fragrances, that feels more refreshing than its previous releases. This is a Douglas fir tree no doubt, but there’s a balsamic, powdery, resinous sweetness dusted over that offers a different take than its usual DNA. I find this to have a fresh muskiness to it too, that feels like you’re smelling these trees in the early hours of the morning. It’s light, airy, fresh, but warmly sweet too. I feel like it’s distinctly Pineward’s typical forest esque scent but the freshly musky touch and light sweetness makes it feel new. An all around lovely scent

Lovely dark balsamic woody blend
Sampling Pineward Perfumes Snoqualmie, a recent 2024 release, a darker blend consisting of fir and resin notes, primarily, a smooth and rich celebration of a forest in the cold weather that’s a warming experience to wear. It’s a bit balsamic and savory, almost like darker olive oil, lively at first but drying down to a more easygoing, subtle wear. I would quite enjoy it in the winter, especially, but it really becomes quite pleasant after the initial blast (which, for my money, is great).

Priced at $205/135/80 for 57/37/17ml in extrait concentration, this is the current pricing for much of the brand’s darker and more cold-weather-leaning catalogue in higher concentrations, which I originally came to know the brand for.

Snoqualmie - the ancient moon forest
Come and sit with me. You sad white man. You've lost everything. It wasn't just a game. It was more than serious. It was all your possessions. It was your life.
Come, sit with me on the forest floor. The moss in this forest is soft. The fir trees pour their resin over your sore soul. Balsam envelops you. Lets your spirit come to rest.
Close your eyes. Surrender to the scent of the crushed needles. My fingers are green from their sap. Can you see the dense forest in front of you? Do you see the ancient giants with their red bark? Can you see the moon shining above their treetops? Can you hear the roar of the Snoqualmie Falls? Can you feel the freshness on your skin? Let yourself be enveloped by the scent of the larches and cedars. They drape a cloak of bark over your shoulders.
And now get up! Stand upright among the red giants. Let your head be adorned with an eagle's feather. Feel the power in your back. Your bare feet deeply rooted in the earth, your head stretched into the wide sky, towards the moon. You human being! This is your home! This is your life!

Snoqualmie - I perceive it as a serious, initially balsamic, then slightly bitter, dark coniferous forest fragrance. Towards the base, the forest becomes softer, lighter, open at the top. It remains perceptible on my skin for many hours.
Snoqualmie - Moon - the name of a Native American tribe that until 150 years ago roamed the forests at the foot of the Cascades in Northwest America. They lost their livelihood to the whites and now live from running a casino.

"Only when the last tree is cut down...will we realize that you can't eat money." (source uncertain)

One of the more strongly projecting Pinewards. Smells interesting & resinous on the atomiser, but just turns into Encre Noir on my skin

Cozy pine tree with a mint note in the opening that fades quickly. Quiet, but very comforting.

Brighter and sweeter than some other forests. A sunlight dappled glade. Prickly brush of conifer needles, but the sugary pitch remains.
