Animal forest

A wonderful olfactory journey, it is like a journey to a wild and at the same time precious world. The animal notes are always present, with a jasmine that little by little floods everything and as it dries it opens up to a world of magically balanced scents.

Tame intro to Prin

Nocturnal Poetry starts out floral with animalics. My first thought was it's rather feminine. As it dried down though, the florals pulled back significantly and it became more of a dirty/resin-y type of fragrance. The slider adjusted from feminine to unisex as it dried down. Animalics here are not overly strong. Longevity is quite good - I got about 10 hours out of it and it was still a noticeable skin scent. Projection is more moderate. Scent would be a gentle intro if you want to tip your toes in Prin Perfumes. A bit too tame for me though.

Animalics of the Night...

Nocturnal Poetry opens with a dry beeswax and warm cumin spice tandem with underlying supporting oud before slowly moving to its heart. As the composition enters its early heart the dry beeswax and warm cumin spice focal tandem remains, joined as co-stars by very strong warm, animalic, musky hyraceum and supported by dull rose and slightly fecal civet with the initially supporting oud hanging around for most of the heart phase. During the late dry-down the beeswax and cumin finally vacate, leaving remnants of the diminished hyraceum to couple with soft, moderately animalic musk as co-stars with supporting rosewood from the base adding balance through the finish. Projection is very good, as is longevity at 11-12 hours on skin.

I was a bit worried initially when I applied Nocturnal Poetry on skin, as the beeswax and cumin spice combination comes off as very dirty and somewhat animalic from the off. I am not a fan of dirty cumin spice at all, as it frequently presents itself like body odor, and unfortunately it does so here. Luckily, while the composition starts off rather dirty and unpleasant, it gradually recedes as dull rose in the heart balances the cumin, beeswax and musky hyraceum as time passes. By the time the composition reaches its late dry-down, the animalics while ever-present, are smoothed out considerably sans the cumin, swapping in rosewood to balance them perfectly despite their strength, never letting them get out of control. The bottom line is the $190 per 30ml bottle Nocturnal Poetry can be a bit hard to handle early-on, but Mr. Lomros deftly balances all the animalics and dirty spice with careful attention to yield a "very good" 3.5 stars out of 5 rated effort that ultimately impresses and is recommended.

Animalic Night Scent

Nocturnal Poetry by Prin is a captivating unisex fragrance that evokes the mysteries of the night. With prominent notes of leather, musk and a hint of smokiness, it creates a dark and alluring aura. As it dries down, a subtle powdery and waxy undertone adds depth and complexity. Sillage and longevity are both very high. A gorgeous scent that is easy to wear.

Like the Prince, So the Animalic

Do you know that Jever advertisement?
“If you had made the sea, would you have tamed it? / If you had made the wind, would you have made it mild? / And if you had made a beer, how would you have done it? / Just like that. / As the land, so the Jever. / Frisian-bitter.”
This is what I think of with Nocturnal Poetry. Not because the scent smells like beer or because I’ve doused myself in it. Rather, because the motto above could figuratively come from Prince, like the animal from the swamp, so the Prince. If it weren’t… yes, if it weren’t for Nocturnal Poetry. This one is more like the tamed Prince-sea and that is surprisingly good.

Sure, this typical Prince note somewhere between animalic, caraway-dominated spice, viscous ingredients is present. At the outset, it’s even so pronounced that I had to think of Iron Duke. Its intensity is also evoked by Nocturnal Poetry. Eventually, the harsh notes fade away. That alone is remarkable: oud, leather, coffee, four times animal, all enveloped in warm incense. The coffee comes across more like it has a splash of milk, the oud is purely woody and becomes oily over time, the animalic notes are very restrained, which also applies to the leather. This still seems new, also slightly oily, which could also stem from the oud.

In addition, there is a kind of citrus note with an Asian influence. This elevates the fragrance as these nuances appear very intense. It also colors the incense, which accompanies the other notes until the end. After about two hours, the ingredients seem to dissolve into honey. This leads to a mushy and, above all, lighter consistency. If this were more intense, a purchase would probably be more than just an option. Unfortunately, one must also mention the caraway, which quickly diminishes and brings the oily leather relatively to the forefront.

All in all, Nocturnal Poetry is very wearable and forms somewhere the missing link between Prince's animalic and citrus fragrances. It is well-balanced. With the moderately acting ingredients, it is more mass-appealing and worth a test.
