Never thought I’d say it - A disappointing Chanel.

Everything in the notes say that I should absolutely love this. Fruity, floral, violet, rose, powder.. yes please! I’ve a total soft spot for feminine fragrances in spring and summer and a total soft spot for Chanel’s DNA. Splendide opens as a sweet, soft fruity floral with slightly jammy summer fruits. A little promise of tang from the raspberry that dissipates all too quickly. It dries down into a soft peachy rose on a base of slightly powdery iris, a hint of wood and musk. I thought there’d be some summer fizz from the geranium, but alas, it’s just a pretty summer scent.

It doesn’t smell like a Chanel. To me, it smells more like an expensive shampoo or hair product, and that’s ok, one of my fav summer scent, Angeli Di Firenze, is a gorgeous fruity floral shampoo. Splendide is very lovely indeed and inoffensive, it aims to please, to be liked by all maybe?.. but instead it’s quite generic, forgettable and unremarkable. Very light and delicate and unfortunately it disappears after an hour an a half. It may not smell like a Chanel, but it’s price it still expensive for a scent I’d have to spray more liberally and more often than a body spray to get any sort of scent bubble. It’s not awful, it really is very nice, pretty, but it’s underwhelming and majorly disappointing for me.

Raspberry and Rose and nothing else

I'm usually a Chanel hater, but this is now my favorite scent in their collection. I recognized the 1-2 punch of raspberry and rose a mile away. The opening is almost the same as Angel Nova by Mugler-- very tart, fruity, and youthful. I definitely feel a distinct Chanel quality to it-- I think their florals come off too powdery and synthetic compared to other houses, and I got a big whiff of the Chanel grandma accord (I say this because my grandmother is a fiend for Chanel and the florals are always so prominent on her).

The juiciness and florality make this scent feel youthful and joyous. There's no sensuality or maturity in this bottle. I you want to embody a girlish and polished scent for warmer weather, you may really enjoy this. However, I'm not a polished lady and I'm gonna wear the hell out of my Angel Nova for a similar effect.

Looks like robbery to me

I got a full size of this to sample and I’m very glad I didn’t have to pay for something so basic and watered down. This smells like cold water that has some red fruits floating around, there is some sweetness and overall freshness. The scent smells pretty fun and youthful, but this is far from being special or different or necessary in this market right now. But it would be a pretty nice gift maybe for someone graduating high school.

A fresher Angel Nova flanker fit for spring and summer

I haven't really gone for Chanel fragrances in my fragrance journey since I don't think I fit their public, so when I got a free sample from SoPost I was pretty indifferent. Decided to test it out anyways to see if this would open the door to future Chanel fragrance.

Let me tell you, this one has further strengthened my resolve that Chanel might not be a house for me. If I hadn't known, I would've sweared it's an Angel Nova flanker where the raspberry is more on the fresh, bright side than the sugary sweet and heavy side. There's a weird freshness that remains throughout the fragrance that's clearly synthetic. During the middle, I get some fresh rose and a subtle iris that weirdly fresh and not powdery. Freshness remains ever present. The drydown is still fresh and at the same becomes warmer and slightly woody.

It's definitely a feminine fragrance and if you love Angel Nova but want a fresher take for spring and summer this could be it. For my part, I'm not an Angel Nova lover (they have already been rated and reviewed), so this one won't be making it into my collection.

Super sweet raspberry

I was so interested by the notes, so I went to the store and sprayed it on paper. It was super powdery - fruity with hint of violet, than I sprayed on my skin:

The scent completely transformed into a super condensed raspberry and violet ! It's syrupy but fades into something a little less pronounced on the raspberry and way more intense on the violet.

The thing is, it reminded me A LOT of Lancôme La vie est belle - Elixir, they share that same condensed - syrup raspberry, so... The chanel DNA is not on that one, can be disappointing if you love that "Eau Chance" dna (I personally don't really, since I don't care to be honest) but surprisingly, I really enjoyed that one.
