Perfumes I've decluttered
2025: these are all pending as they have not yet sold
- No. 3
A SDJ '68 dupe (and a good one). I liked the rollerball and finished it, but the body mist is too sour and bitter. I always seem to prefer rollerball formulas when they exist.
- Fantasy Eau de Parfum
Yes I decided that even though I love it in winter, I have more gourmands that I want to use and I think I'd be better off buying Fantasy Sheer so I can wear it all year round.
- Nirvana Amethyst
Another sad one but I literally have only worn it a handful of times, and I only like it in cool dry weather, which is like 2 months of the year. I want to keep a decant as a reference sample, but I'm ready to admit I don't wear this one and let it go. Just because it's discontinued, it doesn't mean I need to hold onto it.
- #police to be To Be - #Freetodare for Woman
My only full bottle purchase of this year so far (I've done well as it's already mid April). It was sort of a blind buy as I had tested it a year ago and didn't quite remember how it smelled, despite knowing I liked it. It smells too similar to "To Be - Born To Shine for Woman | Police" which I own. Since Born To Shine has a coffee note and more vanilla, it's a clear favourite over Freetodare, so there's no point keeping this one.
2024:
- Rock Princess (2023) Eau de Toilette
Too powdery and floral. Felt I could only enjoy it on a hot summer night outdoors or else it was too cloying. Hated the opening which was like a fruit punch with too much alcohol
- Rock Princess (2009)
Also too alcoholic in the opening, like red wine.
- Marshmallow Eau de Parfum
Too musky for me, and too strong. Couldn't even enjoy one spray of it because of how strong it was, but I am keeping the hand cream- much better when it's lighter. It seems the gourmands I enjoy most have a balance of white florals and are not so linear.
- Pop
Too strong (in the rollerball), and not a scent that speaks to me. Too floral and I guess I don't like some of the notes- especially the violet and violet leaf, perhaps the tomato leaf too
- Be Delicious Eau de Parfum
Too crisp for me and not sweet enough. Turns too strong on the grapefruit, smelling sour on my skin.
- Into Glamour
This was an old favourite of mine 10 years ago, and used to be the only scent I liked, but was always sad it didn't last more than 15 minutes. I repurchased it but I believe the formula has changed.
- Cheirosa '62
I wore this and loved it, and it was my only summer scent for 2 years, but I knew there was something off about it with my chemistry and it's the salt.
- Aura Eau de Toilette
Not sweet enough, and turns too musky after 10-15 minutes. Also doesn't work great with my skin chemistry and turns very masculine when there's humidity.
- French Connection Femme
Yet again not quite sweet enough and too strong on the white florals, with an underlying fresh spicy and aromatic accord that doesn't work with me.
- Siren
It was a nice sweet juicy floral, but I got a dirty animalic smell, like when someone has a pet mouse or guinea pig and you get the smell of the sawdust/straw in their cage, with a bit of their waste. Even though that smell may only come from the rollerball I had, and it only lasted about 20 minutes after the opening, I can't justify keeping it.
- Brit Rhythm for Her Eau de Toilette
The one that made me realise I can't stand lavender in a fragrance. Too aromatic, aldehydic, chemical-like and no hint of sweetness.
- Green Tea Summer
I had the bottle in my bathroom as a bathroom spray for a while, but it was still too bitter for my nose.
- Paris Hilton Eau de Parfum
This was a slightly addictive, masculine-leaning scent, but I it still wasn't sweet enough and was actually too strong for me. A couple of the notes (ylang ylang, oakmoss) just don't work for me.
- Private Show Fragrance Mist
I love the idea of this fragrance more than I like the scent itself. I love the sweet coffee and creamyness, but there are two things: 1) the nectarine in the top note is not great for me. I do not tend to like strong scents of fruits like apricot, nectarine or peach. 2) the overall artificial sweetener smell. I love a sugary sweetness, and a gourmand dessert sweetness, but this like you've used an overpowering amount of artificial sweetness to flavour a frappe. It just isn't working for me.
- To Be - Tattooart for Woman
I so badly wanted this bottle in my collection, and for the scent to be a maple syrup marshmallow scent, but it is overpowering in the florals and I get no maple syrup at all, and only sweetened powder, not marshmallow. This one NEEDS to be my last blind buy, and my disappointment in this one seems to have knocked me back on track and satiated my need to keep trying more perfumes for the hope that they'll be perfect for me.
- SJP NYC Eau de Parfum
I know this is such an easy reach for summer, and very motivating to wear while I do chores and run errands, but I still kept thinking at the back of my mind that this is too sour and strong for me. I now also have other sweet scents for summer that will motivate me, such as Heiress Body Mist and
To Be (Woman). If I want this scent again, I'd go for the body mist so that the plastic case around the perfume bottle doesn't stick out like a sore thumb in my collection, and the scent in the body mist would be lighter.
- Ed Hardy for Women Eau de Parfum
I actually didn't mean to- the bottle smashed! I was using it as a bathroom spray and was VERY happy doing so because I got to smell the juicy tropical top notes every day without wearing it. But I admit that when the bottle fell and smashed I was slightly relieved that I declutted another scent that I wouldn't miss so much.
2022:
- Green Tea Eau Parfumée
I didn't officially declutter this, but for the last 50ml I sprayed it as a room spray, and still didn't even like the scent much. Too bitter and spicy for me. It took me 8 years to finish that bottle...
2015:
- Green Tea Cherry Blossom
A blind buy and I hated it from the very beginning. Quickly decluttered it by swapping my sister for another one. Too artificial chemical-smelling for me.
- Planet Earth EDT
A niche unisex fragrance that got re-gifted to me. Hated it. Far too masculine, and I can't even find out what notes were in it as it was a small brand that doesn't sell it anymore. But I remember it being very aromatic and maybe slightly marine. I tried using it as a bathroom spray but quickly decluttered it after that too.
I know exactly what you mean about the animalic/rodent straw feeling - I get that too from some cedar notes, and frequently with Skylar fragrances for the specific type of sandalwood they use in several of their fragrances. I see Paris Hilton Siren has sandalwood too - do you think that's the note that ruined it for you?
Have you ever tried Burberry Goddess? It has lavender but it's sweeter, softer, and more well-rounded with vanilla and vanilla absolute.
I'm picky about lavender as well - I thought I hated it in all fragrance, until realizing it was just lavenders that are synthetic or too sharp/herbal.
I noticed you mentioned on several fragrances that they were "not sweet enough" - are gourmands your favorite fragrance type?
Ah you have great taste too! I have just bought a couple more gourmands to round out my collection and fill my craving lol! They are Britney Spears Private Show and Police To Be Tattooart. (So far, Meow has been my only comfort gourmand at home). They're blind buys, but I've been interested in them for months so I hope my obsession with them pays off! I don't usually blind buy, and I'm also trying to keep my collection well under 20.
How do you go about choosing fragrances? your collection looks so beautifully organised!
How about you?
Do you like indolic notes? I usually love them, but find some can lean too "animalic" for my own taste.
I'm with you - I love sandalwood in general also, so I guess it just depends on the fragrance since the notes are all done and/or sourced a bit differently.
I totally agree about the sandalwood in Brazillian Crush '62 not being enjoyable.
I'm glad you enjoyed Burberry Goddess! It's pretty lovely and definitely not too herbal or sharp for the lavender.
You have good taste 🤗 I enjoy the gourmand types too!
Any gourmands that are your favorite currently? Or any gourmand types you're hunting for?
I love sandalwood in general, but I know in the Brazillian Crush '62 EDP the sandalwood is very dry and unpleasant. Perhaps similar, but I didn't think it was an animalic smell. I thought in Siren maybe it was the frangipani smelling rather rotten lol! Fragipanis in real life don't smell good when they're rotting...
Oh yes I really enjoyed testing Burberry Goddess, and actually forgot it had lavender! Definitely when lavender is sharp and leaning aromatic (so most of the time) is when I can't stand it I guess.
And yes, anything leaning into gourmand is my type :) and must be the same for you?
