A Note for Life: Which One Would Be Yours? 1

If you could choose only one perfume note to accompany you for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why?

Jasmine. It's my absolute favorite scent, whenever I pass by a star jasmine plant I stop to take a deep inhale. I feel like it fits my personality too.

Rose, however oldschool and basic - I love most of its variations.

Patchouli!

Tobacco!

I really don't think any singulair note could satisfy, but Bergamot is in many of my beloved perfumes and so is Carnation.

Sandalwood 🤍

Tea! But I could also do an iris that smells of fresh pencil shavings.

Patchouli!

Personally, I like perfumes with few notes, preferably strong and dark. My favorite note is patchouli; I like it as the main note, standing out clearly above the others, not as a base or accompanied by other notes. I find it a very versatile scent that I could easily wear for a lifetime. What fragrances with patchouli as the main note would you recommend?

Musk

Sandelwood, I guess 🤔

Patchouli gets me all nice and calm. Very homely, warm, cosy, but in touch with nature. Yeah I love patchouli 🥰

That's a difficult question. It would either be leather or tobacco.

Which tea? Black? Green? Rooibos? Maté? Matcha? White tea?

I pick jasmine as well. There are many others I like but nothing is on the same level. I would be perfectly content just wearing a soliflore of it forever, especially since it can be so multifaceted.

After much thought and evaluation, considering the versatility of different olfactory notes, I’ve concluded that my favorite note is patchouli.

Patchouli is to perfumery what the cello is to music—it has a very wide tonal range. With that in mind, I am looking for five fragrances where patchouli takes center stage: a fresh patchouli for spring and summer, a dark and dense one for winter and fall evenings, another for daily office wear, a fun one for leisure days and vacations, and finally, one for very special occasions such as business meetings or important social events.

I believe that by finding the right fragrances for each occasion, I wouldn’t need anything else for the rest of my life. I’m someone who thinks a good perfume shouldn’t just smell nice—it should also be a personal signature.

High-five Team Patchouli! I would consider these my favorite patchouli-centered fragrances:

Warm weather/outdoors - Patchouli Nobile Eau de Parfum - Unapologetic patchouli but brightened with pepper and smoked with gaiac. Italian.

Cool weather/cozy at home - Patchouli Noir - Divine. Unique. Includes poppy, mint, cacao, and vanilla notes. Leans chocolate-y, but dry rather than gourmand. Also Italian.

Fancy - Psychédélique - French rather than Italian. Gorgeously complex patchouli-amber fragrance that steers clear away from commonly ascribed “dank” or “dirty” associations. (I don’t mind it but it’s an issue for others.)

Canon - Patchouly and Patchouli Eau de Cologne

For devoted “patch heads” these two are often considered canonical. Both Italian. The first is out of my price range and very strong for my taste. The other is historically interesting and smells beautiful, but not so long lasting.

Honorable mention - Horizon French again. Beautiful and in a similar vein as Psychédélique. Fancy. Includes rose.

There are so many, but these are the ones I have some experience with. Maybe others will chime in 💚
