I need some advise on Niche perfumes

I need some advise on Niche perfumes 0

Hi everyone,

Could someone advise me on some niche perfumes that smell a little 'vintage'. I don't like gourmands or too much vanilla, I need something bright, appropiate for summer and perfume-y as well. It may be green, but not as dry as N°19 Parfum (already have that one) and I like some good sillage without it being bold or bossy. I can create my own sample set when ordering from Skins and need some recommendations. Would Eau Capitale Eau de Parfum suit me for instance?

Just dropping a drive-by link to brands Skins carries. I hope someone else chimes in, I'm very much the opposite in terms of taste.

Oh thanks @MorganleFay  Smile ! I can also order from another shop that carries more brands by the way, they offer the same sample-service.

Eau Capitale Eau de Parfum is very pretty though I would not describe it as bright and definitely not green. It’s a classic patchouli rose with Diptyque’s typical signatures: wearable and elegant, moderate projection and good longevity. It definitely has vintage vibes and “signature scent” characteristics. Portrait of a Lady Eau de Parfum is also available at the site you shared. It is also a patchouli-rose but I would say more potent and complex. It’s a legend for a reason and worth a sniff.

Thank you for the insight, @Tealight10 ! I think I will visit the Skins shop today and maybe also try Orphéon Eau de Parfum The reviews for that are very intriguing and I also like scents smelling like luxurous soap. I only fear the pine that some describe, hoping it won't be too 'aftershave-y/soapy'? ..I love the soapyness as in L'Air du Temps Eau de Parfum for instance. So a more flowery kind of soap, tingeling, vintage-y..

Your Gabrielle no.19 is a classic chypre. The Diptyque you mention is a modern chypre unisex. It isn't a matter of niche. Many Chanel carry a quality close to niche. You might be wondering what is a modern chypre, a modern green fragrance without many notes, without many flowers. A minimalistic chypre. You would definitely like Heure Exquise

Hi @Tzapan, Thanks for your reply. I do like my Chanel no 19, but find it a bit too dry. As for chypres: My other chypre that I find beautyful, is Azurēe (2015) but I struggle with the very bitter drydown of it sometimes. I don't care for Paloma Picasso-like scents or Aromatic Elixer and such. Too bossy, 'new money' kind of scents imo. I LOVE Givenchy III (2007) which is not a 'much talked about' perfume, but it could have better sillage.

I find it very hard too describe what I like, it just has to connect with me...Smile. My visit to a perfumery yesterday was a real letdown...that's why I'm thinking to try some niche scents.

Heure Exquise sounds wonderful indeed.

@Ringtale Frederic Maille has done something interesting for Estée Lauder. Private collection legacy, I think.

Hi @Tzapan, Yes I know, All their classics are now in the Legacy Collection (some former releases still available online in Europe for decent prices) I read many contradicting comments about this Lecacy Collection, and I find it way overpriced.

Have a nice day!

Hi, @Ringtale!

I see you already own one perfume from Carthusia, but, if you haven't already, you should definitely dive deeper into this house. From what you wrote so far on this forum, I'm positive you would love Fiori di Capri Eau de Parfum . A bit vintage-y, but really easy to wear and versatile. Fits summer as well as winter.

Even more classic are Carthusia Lady Eau de Parfum and Aria di Capri Eau de Parfum .

On the more summery side, I would recommend Via Camerelle Eau de Parfum (still a bit vintage-y, but very light and bright and really adorable), Corallium Eau de Parfum (after a herbal opening, it settles into the most beautiful marine scent I've ever smelled - neither aquatic, nor salty, just sand and breeze), and Capri Forget Me Not Eau de Parfum (the most aromatic-vegetal of them all, the fig in here is to die for).
