how much has your tastes changed?

Hahah, sounds like me, so another immature and stunted person here 👋😂 Like I explained in my earlier post, during the past 30+ years I have definitely have phases when I prefer some genres more than others, however in general my taste is super wide and I tend to love everything and the more I smell different things the wider my taste develops. It's quite rare if I dislike a perfume. Depending on the day I may crave completely random things - one day it's a soft sweet cosy drugstore body spray, another day it's some exclusive niche creation, then another day it's a weirdo unique polarizing indie thing or a vintage frag from the 1960s, and then the next day a crowd pleasing generic smelling popular designer or some trendy fashionable brand new fragrance. And loving them all equally much. I've also been questioned if I'm a real fraghead at all when I still after all these years having fragrances as my main hobby continue loving "cheaper" smells too instead of exploring only niche things and when I can't choose my "own classy signature style" lol. Nope, I still refuse to choose and will continue being eclectic and tacky and loving all random things from all price points and all genres in the future too. 😁

It's my primary hobby too! I am so much like this, one day I'll be in Ô de Lancôme Eau de Toilette from the late 60s, the next I'll crave a cheap vanilla like Vanilla, probably because of the contrast.

I've expressed some of my thoughts about the F site (and to be fair, I've met some lovely people on there too) here, and I won't continue to go on about it in detail (I still post reviews there and reply to surface-level posts in the forum, but I don't get too *real* there any more), but in conversations I'd sometimes have jarring questions or statements. People would say - "Don't you have a style you want to aim toward? Why don't you curate your collection more? Your wardrobe is all over the place girl! Pick a lane!"

I'm mostly joking about immaturity, truly. I do wonder if some people (like us) view this more as a journey, as cliche as that might sound. I don't necessarily have fragrance *goals*.

It's a weird, wonderful hobby and people can approach things differently! I love that you're eclectic too 😊 Certain fragrances pull at different elements of my personality or life experience, sometimes they'll remind me of a song, or some art, or even certain weather. Do you relate?

@Shadows444 Aaawww so nice to hear this, and such a lovely post 🤗 And yes, I completely agree, I also had very similar experiences at the F-site, there are lots of wonderful people who I really am missing now, but then there are also these snobbyish people who question everything and judge other people. And yeah I can completely relate to this journey thing too, perfumes are tied very closely to my memories and personality etc., so many times my fragrance choice of the day is based on my urge to travel back to for example certain time or place or emphasize a certain aspect of my personality or match the smell to the season or weather. 🥰👍

@bunnyshaped, it has changed drastically! I am into fragrance for about year – I used to be a cologne/aftershave guy for a really long time – and since October I started to buy more of another types of fragrance. 

I noticed that my picture of a perfect scent has changed a lot. From a really powdery-florent scent it went to a oriental amber bomb.

I'm fairly new, so the more things I sampled the more I learned to appreciate the components of fragrances and how they are mixed together. Whereas before my opinion on fragrance was "it's not BO, so it's whatever". I went wearing odorless deodorant to 11+ fragrances in a little over 6 months and just as many samples. Even caught myself discussing fragrances with a couple of female coworkers a few months ago with the same "passion" I discuss my other hobbies with. It then hit me "This is going to turn into another financial problem, heck..." but as with my other hobbies, I have zero regrets.

My tastes have changed seemingly a lot in a short period.

I still loved Creed, but Prada moved to the top. Throw in: Ganymede Eau de Parfum

2025:

2025 was mostly the year of Amouage, but Xerjoff emerged quite a bit too. Throw in: Grey Vetiver Parfum

Who knows what 2026 will be, but I have a feeling it will continue to be dominated by Amouage, and to some degree Xerjoff. However, I would have said the same about Prada in 24, and Creed in 23, so who knows. I think it's taken me this long to actually be able to smell slightly more complex smells not that Amouage nor Xerjoff are the tops for challenge, but still, it's taken me this long.

What's likely to happen if other houses begin to interest me more is not that my rotation becomes dominated by a house (like it is today with Amouage and Xerjoff) but instead by a fragrance from here, and a fragrance from there. 6 of my top 10 favorites right now are Amouage just to give an idea of where I'm at.

I’ve been into fragrances for a while now and my taste has definitely evolved from enjoying simple, fresh scents to gravitating toward bold, powerful compositions like Ethereal Wave and Courageux Over time, I’ve started appreciating fragrances that feel more distinct, expressive and full of character rather than just clean and easy.

It started out with Bright Crystal Eau de Toilette and then I've tried all sorts of stuff last year. I've worn everything from heavy white florals to Angel's Share and Khamrah. But... I'm back to my Bright Crystal now. After all, it is still my favorite.
