Intimate Scent
January 8, 2024: After owning this for a month, I sold my bottle. Sillage and projection was very underwhelming. If you are looking for an intimate fragrance that sits close to the skin, this is perfect. As for me, that is not my style.
————————————————————
I blind bought this and cannot be any happier with my decision.

I had a bottle of 2021 Jubilation XXV and sold it after a year or so because it was weak and had absolutely no sillage. It was such a disappointment because the scent itself was beautiful.

Fast forward to today and after applying three sprays, this is worth the hype. Jubilation 40 is gorgeous and sexy. Give it about fifteen minutes to settle in. Also, spray this on your body and not your clothes because it is HEAVY and OILY!

I’m not going to get into the scent but if you want a grown man’s fragrance, look no further.

*Disclaimer*

I bought my bottle used, so of course it was a no brainer for me. I got it close to half off retail. If you can wait until prices drop, that would be ideal. If you can’t, I ain’t mad at you.

Masterclass, but disasterclass
At this point, it feels like every 2023 release that has high anticipation has completely whiffed. Doesn't matter if it's PR product and influencer hype (see: Lovers & Althaïr) or premium niche flankers (see: Hacivat Oud and Masque Milano Ruby collection). I am going to place Jubilation 40 into that same basket.

[in-doors test, went through scent evolution 2 times]

Make no mistake about it, J40 isn't just a concentration flanker to Jubilation XXV Man. The opening instantly goes in the direction that Sebastian (The Perfume Guy) said it would - the scent smells camphorous. On my first impressions, I felt like J40 opened like a hybrid between J25 and Amouage's woody-aromatic-herbal fragrances like Beach Hut Man or Bracken Man. On my second wear, I started to find reminiscence to an evergreen or a Christmas tree. This vibe specifically made me think of a comparison like Fille en aiguilles. The top/opening is very much a woody-aromatic fragrance and doesn't really even smell like J25.

Another note that causes significant difference is the bay rum heart note. The feeling that it brings to this fragrance is akin to the blackberry in J25 done in alcoholic fashion. I don't really know of many fragrances that do boozy this well, to the point that it smells realistic boozy. The only one that comes to mind is the opening on Ytzma.

In terms of the scent pyramid & accords, this could be viewed as a boozy oriental with a woody-aromatic top. I don't think we can think of this as a fruity amber like we did with J25. I can only smell the J25 tones from very up-close. But the issue is this doesn't address the biggest criticism people have with current J25 - the performance. Much like Aventus, prevailing J25 batches are a shadow of its true former self. To me, J40's performance is just as awful as that of the current J25. The concentration might be high because of the sheen on the back of my hand, but there is no sillage to go with it and the 4 sprays on my first evolution are barely there 3 hours in.

While I was extremely underwhelmed on my first wear, I am mildly less underwhelmed on my second one. I think the underlying product is good-to-great, and I would say that it does a great job at differentiating itself from J25 with the camphorous top-middle and the boozy middle-base. Yet at the end of the day, if you're not an influencer getting this for free, you'll be paying €455 for 100ml on this poorly-performing camphorous-boozy alternative of J25. I cannot, in good faith, recommend that you purchase this. I think I would struggle to justify purchasing this even if it was €345 for 100ml. People wanted vintage J25 and they got current J25 version 2.0.

A classic, made better
Of course, time will tell how it will macerate in the bottle and if the current impression will stay, but after waiting for a month to get my delivery, I am very impressed and happy to have this bottle into my collection.

The Extraits are sometimes a copy paste, see Interlude 53 .. which apart from the beautiful design and the prestige to own it, it brings mostly nothing to the table vs the Interlude OG.

With Reflection 45 is a mixed feeling, I do enjoy more the EDP, but I like the strenght and the story of the extrait.

With Jubi XXV, after 5 bottles I gave up trying to find "the good one" .. it might well be that Amouage did not wante to have a monster performer with it but nobody was admitting to that.

Now with Jubi 40, it is another story .. the perfume oil is there, the similarity is there but .. it´s done for the current times, with a bit of boozy note from the Bay Rum I think? There is something youthful about it, quite playful which I enjoy very much.

With 4 sprays, I have a silage which was never present with the XXV, no matter how much I would spray .. so well done to the new formula!

Perfumery is subjective and there are many factors to keep into consideration when judging this scent, but for my amateur nose and my wallet .. it is the right choice and it is one of the best Amouages on the market.

Special enough for the asking price and friendly enough to be purchased by the wider public and not only the perfume addicts who love complex, thick, unusual scents.

It is a mystery for me why Amouage still asks for the 10€ shipping fees even if their bottles are premium priced and ... my package was without any love and care prepared, the scent and the sample were simpy thrown in the box, with ton of paper on top.

Apart from the price and the packaging, there is nothing premium in the ordering experience!

It's a pity that it didn't turn out to be a fairy tale
Hello everyone,
let me start this by saying that I wanted so much to like this fragrance. I loved Jubilation XXV, even though they watered it down in last releases but still it's so gentlemanly, so rich, and well crafted fragrance. But let me get back to Jubilation 40.
From the beginning you will be reminded of old version, but on some different way. Its darker, more smokey, really didn't expect that and then goes in boozy direction. I was like what? And still liked it, but wasn't overwhelmed. On second wear I got used to it, but didnt feel that special like I was in the beginning (and still) with the Jubilation XXV. And if you pay that much, you should be happy as hell, but that wasn't the case with me. I can see people liking this, because where the direction and trend of making fragrances goes, but for me its a NO. And about the performance? It last really long, that is nice, but sillage is big dissapointment. It is a skin scent after 15 minutes.
So if you like paying that much for that type of scent that project that much, go ahead, for me that wasn't the case. And at the end....It's a pity that it didn't turn out to be a fairy tale!

Oh my god
I was really waiting for this so so so much. My expectations are not so great. All we wanted is the vintage formula that last longer and projects more and that is not water down. We didnt get that. This is different fragrance like Reflection45 is different from Reflection man. So sad. Its not bad, but no where near the original.

This smell is absolutely gorgeous, sweet, classy patchouli with boozy and opoponax undertones. Not much else to be said. Full bottle worthy!

Opens camphorous, think J25 + SL "Fille en Aiguilles". Dries boozy, think fermented J25. Performance is A HUGE DUD - as bad as current J25.

A stunning fragrance. Monstrous longevity with a more moderate sillage. Anyone claiming bad performance is trolling or needs to see an ENT

This is weird maybe cause of my skin chemistry. On paper I got rum fruity smoky vibe but a strong, spicy amber on skin. Still love it tho.

Lively berries, incense, thick base. Bit camphorous, bit boozy. Classy. Intimate projection, stays on clothes forever, quick noseblindness.

One of those oriental and old-school type of scent profiles where blackberries and blackcurrant are king. A little too floral for my liking.

I mostly get camphorous and resinous nuances, frankincense is prominent. Lousy performance. I prefer NY Intense by FDB

This is a scent that makes me happy, relaxed and feeling like royalty. Projection is not the loudest but when detected is enchanting.

Very mature and super high quality. Would be a 10/10 if the longevity and projection were a bit better.

I think I prefer JXXV. This is rich, ambery boozy. Reminds me a bit of MFK Grand Soir but danker. Expensive dankness, not my thing.
