Dance on red velvet - Afnan Supremacy Tapis Rouge
The arrival of Afnan Supremacy Tapis Rouge was an exciting moment for me, full of expectations - not least because there are hardly any reviews of this fragrance, especially from men. That's exactly what made it so exciting that I ended up buying it blind. But sometimes high hopes lead to equally high disillusionment.
The fragrance starts with a promising opening: Juicy amarena cherries and a gentle hint of amaretto give the top notes a warm, almost gourmand character. However, the hoped-for intensity does not materialize. Instead, the fragrance quickly moves in an unexpectedly floral direction. Floral notes such as jasmine and mahonia come to the fore, strong and present, while the promised rose or carnation seem rather restrained. A fruity lightness reminiscent of peach, plum or lychee underlines the feminine character of the fragrance, yet it remains diffuse and elusive.
In the drydown, the sweetness of the cherry disappears almost completely. What remains is a light, floral-fruity accord, which is pleasant but has little depth or uniqueness. My expectation of a ripe, strong and dark fragrance was not fulfilled. Instead, Tapis Rouge is rather soft, floral and almost too feminine to make it wearable for me.
I rate the longevity on my skin as average to good - approx. 5-7 hours.
Conclusion: Tapis Rouge is a fragrance that probably appeals to many lovers of fruity-floral compositions, but disappointed me with its lack of intensity and depth of character. Perhaps a fragrance tasting would have spared me this experience - an instructive reminder that patience is sometimes the better way. Nonetheless, it is a pleasant women's fragrance that I would definitely compliment. In my opinion, it is also very suitable for younger women.
