Unreasonableness comes often
Who hasn't experienced this? So many sharings, so many promising notes. And not one fragrance is convincing. Pyramids tell of incense, iris and vanilla. And what do I get? Hairspray made by BASF or something like that. Well, not always. It was different with Bois d'Argent Esprit de Parfum, which I didn't even want to test at first, as ambroxan grins wickedly at me in the list of ingredients.
Yesterday, the fragrance mail from dear Juliabroe arrived. I was naturally curious and sprayed it straight away. At first just in the air and on a cotton ball. Oh yes, I liked it. Of course, I tried to talk myself into disturbing notes, but after about 30 minutes this unfortunately no longer worked.
And today. I'm wearing it today and, as I suspected the day before, I'm blown away. Yes, it also has a leather note. Just like the original fragrance by Annick Menardo. To my nose, however, the sweet tones of the Esprit de Parfum by Dior's new in-house perfumer Kurkdjian come to the fore a little more. Delicate, balsamic notes quickly emerge. As with Chieffo's Lye, which I also have and love to wear, I can only sense the leather here. It may lend the fragrance a softly elegant aura that makes it perfect for a more serious appearance, but it is in no way cool or even unapproachable. No, this fragrance radiates a gentle warmth, as if a cozy fire were blazing somewhere. The iris also adds elegance. The honey note is very subtle. I have to strain to even perceive it, it is so gentle. And the ambroxan? Well. Honestly? I don't smell it explicitly here. And that's exactly how I think modern aroma chemicals should be used. Then it will also work with Mrs. Polly.
I suspect it's also the absence of patchouli in the base that makes me like this Bois d'Argent all the more than its predecessor. And yes, the price is hot, er, steep, but I fear that once again, resistance will be futile. If I'm honest, it's very similar to Lye, except for the tiniest nuances. But as is the case with me in this hobby, we've already had that here and there.
So, what the heck. I'll probably buy it. Christmas is already greeting us from the supermarket shelves. That could be a suitable occasion.
Yes, Monsieur Kurkdjian has won me over. I like some of his fragrances, but I've never owned one before. This time he has hit my taste perfectly. Chapeau!
I don't think anyone who already owns the predecessor, Lye or possibly the discontinued Baiser de Florence by Ella K will need this fragrance. I, for example, own two of them. But many people will still want it. Just like me.
