Ripe peaches wrapped in leather
When I heard Guerlain was coming out with a new l'Art et la Matière, I was stoked. Even more so when I learned it was going to feature peaches at its heart. Reviews started pouring in while I waited patiently for a sample to be available somewhere (anywhere!). Some were pretty vitriolic which slowed my enthusiasm a bit, but I finally got my hands on an official sample, so here we go!
Look, I get it. L'Art et la Matière is a line that has built prestige over time (in part due to its very high price) so people's expectations are pretty high. I can understand people's disappointment when testing Pêche Mirage since it's pretty mid (and that's coming from a Guerlain simp!). Why pay such a high price when you can get better peach fragrances that have better performance and are cheaper? It's not a bad fragrance by any means, but it's missing that special something that makes the Art et la Matière fragrance line something prestigious. At the top, I get peaches: ripe, juicy and fruity. They're not synthetic which is a good thing and don't turn out soapy (compared to some people who have smelled soapiness). I also get a hint of subdued saffron that adds dimension and currant which is tart. Peaches remain the strongest out of the three. As it moves on, peaches get wrapped in leather from the bottom note while osmanthus appears. It doesn't take long before I start getting warmth and woody sandalwood. Peaches become more and more undescript fruitiness while leathery osmanthus remains strong. After an hour, I was already at the bottom notes: fruity sweet, leathery and woody with some warmth.
I won't be getting a full bottle of this one since I already have better peach fragrances in my collection. It was a bit disappointing for an Art et la Matière fragrance (I wouldn't have placed Pêche Mirage in this line), but it only means my wallet is safe for awhile. If you're a collector of A&M, this is a nice addition, but if you're looking for a peach fragrance, there are better ones out there.

I just want to say I hate the discourse surrounding Delphine Jelk's abilities as a perfumer. If she wasn't good, she wouldn't be employed by Guerlain. Doesn't mean she's a bad perfumer when you dislike her fragrances. Her method might just not suit your nose or your skin chemistry that's it. Stop shitting on other people and insulting them as a person just because you don't like how they make fragrances.
