Iris Overdose
I really like most of Marc Gebauer's fragrances, but I couldn't bring myself to like Purple Flamingo, and I am actually pretty sad about that. If you're a fan of iris, this is an absolute iris overdose. I'm learning what "powdery" means in fragrances, and this definitely fits that category. And unfortunately, I usually want to scrub this off.

Although highly concentrated, with this one I get about seven hours. Which, since I'm not a fan, isn't an issue, but its projection is quite strong so points there.

Trust me when I say I'm trying to like this! It just makes my nostrils burn. It shares the DNA of Orange Flamingo, which I believe is where the rose lies with citric tones, but Purple Flamingo takes a different floral route the entire way.

I can't understand why this is priced at 30% higher than the rest of Marc's fragrances. It's not the longest-lasting nor the most unique. At any rate, this is my least favorite of his line. I definitely see the appeal for this, but it's just not for me.

From orange to purple iris: a comparison between orange and purple flamingo.
Starting with strong iris notes, a fresh, floral scent of all Accento Overdose and fresh laundry - the Purple Flamingo knocks you right off your feet. Like this. Period.
So really, you notice this intensity/ this POWER straight away. The clearly noticeable iris unites the entire base with (slightly) woody notes, musk and a lot of "powderiness" to create a harmonious overall picture.

Orange Flamingo, on the other hand, impresses with its fresh and clean notes, which begin directly with an explosion of oranges. The combination of jasmine and lily of the valley dominate together with (slightly) woody accords before the fragrance transitions into a musk-based drydown. In contrast to the powdery Purple Flamingo, however, the Orange Flamingo is fresh and soapy clean with a characteristic "fresh wash" character.

For me/my nose, the Purple Flamingo is more intense/noble than its predecessor...
This is most likely due to the iris, which dominates the fragrance for a few minutes, similar to Irisss by Xerjoff. So if you know that fragrance, you'll know roughly what direction it's going in here...

Despite its highly concentrated formulation, the fragrance is still pleasant and envelops you all day long with its soothing freshie vibe.
The longevity leaves nothing to be desired and the projection is extremely strong, filling the room.
I would even say Beastmode.
!! BUT that is definitely the case with BOTH fragrances !!!
Even on skin types where fragrances don't last long, the longevity of Purple Flamingo is particularly impressive. Once applied in the morning, it stays with you into the evening or even for several days afterwards.
The extremely strong sillage and long-lasting durability also make this an ideal choice - for anyone looking for long-lasting fragrances.

No matter the occasion or time of day - both fragrances are perfect all-rounders.
In my opinion, more for spring and summer, as the heart notes of iris, rose, jasmine, lily of the valley and violet exude a harmonious sensuality that is simply made for these seasons.

On the whole, Purple Flamingo is a luxurious and higher quality alternative to the fresher Orange Flamingo. If you are looking for a long-lasting & intense fragrance, Purple Flamingo will be just right. The fragrance is an absolute must-have, especially for lovers of iris and orange notes as well as powdery freshness. But of course also for collectors due to its exclusivity.

If you are NOT into iris, you should definitely test the fragrance beforehand or go straight for the normal Orange Flamingo! Please note: With a price of €279.00, the purple one is €79.00 more expensive than its predecessor due to its exclusivity and high-quality ingredients. So if you are not from near Düsseldorf or cannot test it in the store - I would definitely recommend ordering a bottle from the Souk.

In the end, you can simply say that Christian Carbonnel has done another great job here and created a fragrance that can be worn 100% by both women and men.

So what now?
Hello dear community, I want to make my review short and sweet... actually.... Whether it will succeed, I don't think so. So let's start with the comparison.

Basically, I don't find the similarity between the Purple Flamingo and the Orange Flamingo all that obvious. The only thing they actually have in common is that they both pass as typical clean scents / detergent & fabric softener fragrances and are characterized as such. Both are therefore built on the same foundation, but are fundamentally different in their development. With Purple Flamingo, the first thing I notice is the similarity to L'Homme, which only lasts for a short time, and the extreme explosion of iris, which creates a real bubble gum vibe in the first second, but then drifts strongly towards fabric softener ... so far so good .Again, later in the drydown, the PF reminds me strongly of "Irisss | XerJoff", which I didn't think at first, as "Irisss | XerJoff" is also quite complex.

However, this is not the case with Orange Flamingo. It neither reminds me strongly of a familiar fragrance, nor does it develop over time. It remains very simple, straightforward and linear, I would almost say it is quite one-dimensional, especially in comparison, although the Purple Flamingo is also "simple" in its own way and is not exactly the most complex work in my opinion. The orange is very pleasant, but also intense. Light floral notes make themselves felt without being too feminine... actually quite good.

Longevity and sillage, however, remain an issue. The Orange Flamingo has tremendous power, strong longevity and really brutal sillage, it easily lasts 8 hours with good perception and 12+ hours with good perception at a shorter distance. In contrast, the Purple Flamingo is quite a bit weaker, the durability was "only" 6 hours for me, after that the whole thing became rather skin-deep, the sillage is really quite good until then, but does not come close to the Orange Flamingo.

However, the price comparison is still missing. Orange Flamingo currently has an RRP of €199.00 per 100ml and Purple Flamingo costs €279.00 per 100ml. I would actually leave it at that, but I have to say that for me personally it's not worth the €280. The Purple Flamingo is definitely a good fragrance, especially for all iris lovers, but based on the performance, which is significantly below the Orange Flamingo, I see no need to spend 280€ for such a simple fragrance.

Finally, I can only say that I personally like the Orange Flamingo better in terms of style and its own fragrance DNA, and for me it is much better suited to summer. The performance of the Orange Flamingo is really convincing, definitely better than the Purple Flamingo and also the price difference of 80€, for the same amount, is much more bearable for me. In any case, try them both, because the Purple Flamingo is also a great fragrance, in the end you have to decide which you like better. For me, however, the Orange Flamingo has the edge in the end.

Thank you for your attention, stay decent ‍️

The mature flamingo
There were two releases these days that made me particularly curious, even though I knew full well that I am neither the target group nor do I have any intention of buying them. One fragrance is Perseus by PdM, the other Purple Flamingo, which, as you know, is only available in the Marc Gebauer store in Düsseldorf, which is centrally located in the perfumery Bermuda triangle of the most beautiful city on the Rhine ;-)

But let's quickly get to the point: Purple Flamingo surprises me in that it doesn't play it safe or young or youthful, but rather comes across as a more grown-up, mature version of Orange Flamingo. Both work quite intensively with floral nuances alongside the orangy-citrus theme. Purple Flamingo in particular has a lot of powdery iris and some violet. Jasmine and rose as well as lily of the valley are still rather restrained here, but present. There is also a fine, soapy base and minimal green and woody accents.

Purple Flamingo almost gives the impression that the floral soaps of the great-grandmother have been poured together into an extrait de parfum to create something new and yet classic. This is not meant in a derogatory way, but in my opinion rather against the trend of oversweet shower gel fragrances and therefore daring and welcome. This step is certainly more courageous than the release of Perseus, which I will discuss in more detail in another review. Otherwise, it would be like comparing apples with pears or oranges with iris.

I like this flamingo, which embodies maturity, calm and security and is based on classic values. Nevertheless, I would not consider buying it ... and certainly not at this price. Nevertheless: respect!

Orange or purple?
I don't need to convince anyone that Orange Flamingo is a great fragrance. Perfect for spring/summer.

But what are the differences between the two?
Irisss!

For me, the Purple Flamingo is the clear winner.

Imagine you're on vacation, you've booked a whole house right by the sea.
You wake up on a pleasant 25-degree day with a light cool, but not cold, breeze.
You go out into the garden to the washing line and pull down a freshly laundered T-shirt and put it on while it's still very slightly cold.
That's exactly how the
Purple Flamingo from
Marc Gebauer.

Complete powdery iris inhale. If you like iris, try this out! Shares Orange Flamingo DNA but in a way I sadly don't like.

Der luxuriösere Orange Flamingo! Eine wahre Iris Bombe mit ähnlich guter Haltbarkeit und Sillage wie der Orange Flamingo. Compliment Getter
