The smiling dragon
From one of his business trips my father had brought me a precious kimono jacket - which I still cherish.
It is made of golden silk and elaborately embroidered with cherry blossoms entwined around a red dragon.
The pink flowers harmonize separately with the red of the dragon, which has a friendly face despite its imposing appearance.
He seems to be smiling.
He does not have the fearfulness we ascribe to him here, in the western world, but he seems strong - but kind.
My father explained to me that the dragon in Asia has a completely different meaning - it stands for happiness, intelligence and goodness.
That is exactly what I read from his artfully embroidered face.
And that's how the scent affects me.
It is light and curved by its flowery parts, but has a strong, calm centre by the velvety red rose and the clear neroli.
Sandalwood nestles intimately - and the powdery note provides softness.
Musk gives the fine fragrance a silky sheen - which brings us back to my golden kimono jacket.
I slip inside - and it gives me a pleasant coolness.
I smile in my reflection - and the dragon smiles back.
