A leathery chypre for men
For some reason, I had imagined 1869 to smell rather citrusy, fresh and clean. The real fragrance is nothing like I thought it would be. In fact, it's a whole lot better.

I'll start by saying that 1869 is quite herbaceous and peppery. I agree with Guusjes, it is quite sophisticated, but yet it also seems like it could suit a casual and somewhat rough manly man.

It packs a punch, but not in an overwhelming sense. I find it quite unusual and deliciously spicy. After testing 1869, I can certainly see why some women on the Fragrantica forum adore this fragrance on their men. That sharp, earthy geranium note is undeniably sexy and rich.

Acca Kappa makes some really enjoyable fragrances. I love how a majority of them have a really natural, organic feel to them. They all tend to have a delicate and very appealing greeness which never appears to be synthetic.

Although masculine, I do believe some women could get away with wearing this. I am rather impressed by the moderately strong sillage and wonderful longevity. Chypre is a word that doesn't mean much to me, seeing that I still haven't delved much into that particular fragrance genre, however in terms of a chypre working well on men, 1869 takes the cake.

Eau de Cologne .... extra ordinaire
Good evening, community!

Today I want to tell you how an inconspicuous little bottle with an even more inconspicuous name, 1869, brightened my day.

I met up with my sister today for a marathon session at our local perfumery. We tried a lot .... and I mean a lot ;)
We don't belong to the group that has trouble distinguishing between multiple fragrances. So we tested, and I'll limit myself to the men's fragrances: Lalique: Encre Noire, White, Pour Homme, and Hommage a l'homme; Prada: Amber; Chanel: Egoiste; Tom Ford: Grey Vetiver, For Men, Noire, and the aforementioned Acca Kappa - 1869.
We started with the Tom Fords. Top fragrances, except for the Vetiver, which I didn't like. Then we moved on to Lalique. I particularly liked White and Hommage, super fragrances. Encre Noire was something different, but I wouldn't be happy with it long-term. Then Prada and Chanel came into the mix, they were good, but just good - not extraordinary. As the nice ladies at the department store slowly started to think we were crazy, we had already been at it for about 3 hours, we received a tip from them. Acca Kappa - Muschio Bianco. We walked over and sprayed it on a test strip. Good but nothing special.

Then I saw the other bottle, quite high up on the shelf, rather out of the first line of sight. Inconspicuous - 1869. Okay, I'll try that one too. I was slowly getting bored with the uniformity that I had been wafting around my nose all day.

One spray on the test strip. Wow! Finally something different. Nothing sweet and sticky. Nothing that would hint at a synthetic content - already a big plus. Without further ado, I sprayed it directly on my forearm. Three nice pumps. Now my little travel description after all that preamble. I'm not someone who wants to sniff out the ingredients of a perfume. After all, I don't want to copy it, so I stick to the images the scent creates in my mind's cinema. I hope you can follow me ;)

...So around half past twelve today, the door opened at the barber salon Da Luigi's and I entered the salon. Immediately, the scent of fresh shaving soap and leather chairs filled my nose. My friend Luigi, who has been cutting my hair since childhood, greeted me warmly and invited me to take a seat in one of his chairs. Today, his daughter Bella is working in the salon again - we've known each other since kindergarten. She comes right over to me and takes care of preparing my shave. First, a hot, damp towel on my face to soften and lift the beard hairs. Already, the floral scent of her laundry detergent pleasantly fills my nose, clean and without soap. She talks to me and shares stories about her days back home when she last visited her grandmother. I switch off my brain and listen intently while I absorb the warmth of the scent through the towel. Now, with the pre-treatment finished and the towel removed, the leather scent of the old chairs returns. But a nice warm aura surrounds the story-soaked furniture. She takes a shaving soap that I have never smelled before. Immediately, the clear, clean, yet spicy scent fills my nose. She sees from my reaction that I like the smell and says it's something new and she finds the scent great. What else could I say? Brushed on and at her mercy, she begins to concentrate on thoroughly removing my facial hair. The scent of the shaving foam spreads a pleasantly warming aura of spice and leather. As the last hair fell victim to my barberette's skill, it was time to find an aftershave that would accompany me throughout the day. She deftly reached for the appropriate Eau de Cologne and used a generous splash from the bottle to massage my face.
I immediately felt a fresh, masculine scent emanating from me. A little citrusy, a little spicy, distinctly leathery and warm pulsating. Amazing, this is how men should smell, I thought, and it slipped from her full lips....

The scent is quite close to the body, but that's how a scent should be. One wants to get very close to the object of desire. The fragrance is an Eau de Cologne, but it is also available as an Eau de Parfum. The EdC lasts a good eleven hours now without re-spraying. Price-wise, it's quite steep for an EdC, at least for me as a student ;). But I bought the soap because there is a whole care line for this fragrance.

It is a distinctive scent that clearly distances itself from the mainstream, and that's a good thing. It is a subtle scent, not a macho fragrance. The leather note is natural, just like all the components smell natural. Not a hint of synthetic. I don't know any truly comparable fragrances, but this barbershop touch immediately came to mind.

So I hope you enjoyed the review and spent a few nice minutes reading it.

Have a great weekend

Yours, Natsu

For Timid Men?
A very strange scent. I don't quite know what to make of it. And it's also hard to describe.

1860 is a “thin” fragrance. Nothing eccentric, personally too musky and light for me. After spraying it on, it initially seems to develop a light green character, but only briefly. Then a slightly spicy-peppery note becomes noticeable. There is a minimal acidity present, as well as a slight sweetness. I don't smell any iris, at most a minimal, rather unpleasant powderiness in this composition. Initially, there is hardly any vanilla to be detected; at best, the vanilla adds a bit of volume. Almost all of this leans towards a fresh laundry accord, but that is also not really perceptible. Everything is so weakly structured that even a distinct fragrance progression is hardly noticeable. At most, the vanilla develops a bit.

No, I don't like it. It's neither fish nor fowl. While Acca Kappa's Cedro presents itself distinctly and confidently, 1869 is a wallflower. Time and again, one thinks they discover individual aspects in this fragrance that are really good. But nothing is fully realized; everything remains in its infancy. Some elements in 1869 remind me of Cedro, but only very faintly. At least it seems that Acca Kappa has a common thread that connects the individual fragrances. Perhaps one should see 1869 as an inconspicuous counterpart to Cedro, suitable for daytime.

Acca Kappa offers a wide range of care products, and this weak scent seems more fitting for a shower gel than for a perfume. Something neutral like that is certainly pleasant. Moreover, bright spicy scents are generally not my thing.

This one smells exactly like Farenheit but more refined, smoother. How Farenheit has higher score? Go figure…

Reminds me of a slightly sweeter Fahrenheit. Smells really good, but the longevity at about an hour is quite poor.

A body powder of light wood and cardamom - so delicate and transparent, just a hint of dry spice and slightly bitter green on the skin.

Fresh and leathery - very interesting and with great memorability! The criticized short longevity is eliminated when purchasing the eau de parfum.

Yes, there is a similarity to Fahrenheit - however, this one is much more balanced in composition and lacks the oriental notes.

Outstanding summer cologne that smells of fresh aromatic herbs, like in a summer garden. Exceptional and close to nature.

Light, spicy, definitely has a masculine touch, but incredibly subtle and not long-lasting. Doesn't leave a lasting impression.
