Whispering Silence
A year ago today, I registered here in this beautiful forum and I am very glad about it. The wonderful, mysterious, surprising world of fragrances... Dreamlike.
A sense that until then was rather accepted as existing and necessary unfolds into a now essential sensor to marvel at space, world, and time even more intensely - I am ! .... What a joy.

So !!! Thank you !!! All of you, for your words, your images, and your inspirations.

The fragrances from Acca Kappa have fascinated and accompanied me from the very beginning, and soon I held one of the typical heavy, simple bottles in my hands again.
And again, it is the indescribably beautiful lightness as well as the suggestion of a vast, floating atmosphere that still fascinates me time and again.
With "1868" Eau de Parfum, Acca Kappa has created a masterpiece. The interplay of the bitter spiciness of laurel with the fine, bold, yet innocently charming scent of violet is overwhelming. Amber and vanilla, along with smoky notes, accompany the melancholic chord and underline it very elegantly. Dark green and a violet shadow; now and then, a glowing dark orange shines through.
A fragrance for the now beginning September up to the last cool
November days.
"1869" warms and embraces. It motivates and protects. And it can also be serious, calming, and slowing down.
It is my comfort and my peace.
When I am still, it quietly tells something about me.

Cooking with Bay Leaf or Form Follows Function
Like its fragrant companions Muschio Biancho and LiboCedro, 1869 would also be a good choice for scenting Italian hotel bed linens. However, it is not a clean scent that makes one think of fabric softeners and detergents. It is a bit more serious. Essentially non-citrusy, non-floral. Somehow fresh from the gray-green spectrum. I usually associate freshness with sour citrus, soap, or in an aldehydic-floral context, where usually some type of musk has its impeccably clean fingers in the mix. Here, it is more of a leafy freshness than a fruity one. Those who have cooked with bay (leaves) may recognize this pale green-spicy component. I almost think of green vegetables. Almost. In this respect, 1869 also somewhat resembles Comme des Garçons Laurel, except that the latter seems to oscillate even more between natural aesthetics and art/artificiality, thus appearing more rustic, while Acca Kappa presents a more classic image.

Vegetables - Cooking - Kitchen: Keywords that might help us further in our fragrance description. A restaurant kitchen is not a sensual place, but rather a structured functional workspace. Even when one sits as a guest in the actual restaurant and (ideally) experiences true culinary delights, the kitchen is more of an operating room than a creative lab, devoid of any sensuality. This may not sound charming in connection with a fragrance, but the kitchen comparison might still fit and should not be negatively connoted. A kitchen where what will later be eaten is prepared is something fundamental, necessary, and structured. Hygiene is of utmost importance. 1869 also follows this form-follows-function principle. A fragrance as a formal refreshment, as a serious companion, but not a statement. Standing out is not its job. Here, one could again see the starched white cotton of the restaurant staff, mediating between house and guest. Visible and simultaneously invisible.

In 1869, musk plays the main role, although it is not indicated in the pyramid. Not a soapy musk, but a very subtly dry-powdery-cool-clean one. 1869 is fresh-leafy from start to finish, built on a woody musk base. Unpleasant changes are spared from the wearer. I consciously write "wearer," as I do not see 1869 on a woman. Overall "well blended," dry-clean perfect timing. A glance at the pyramid seems to confirm each of the mentioned notes, yet I could probably not pick out a single one in a blind test. So that is quite well done. However, I do not perceive the base as ambient at any time. It is possible that sweet components give the fragrance a certain volume, yet ultimately there is nothing here that points in an oriental direction. It cannot get drier.

The brand Acca Kappa offers a manageable collection of fragrances and does not immediately chase every trend. They seem to focus entirely on the beautiful range of care products. As far as I can judge, at least the shaving range is free from parabens, silicones, and petroleum. I have not found anything regarding animal testing. I always find it appealing when one can get to know a fragrance at a low threshold with a care product, aftershave, or shaving foam. Ideal for testing whether the scent does not become tiresome after a week.

Fragrance Exploration
Today I am sifting through my collection of men's fragrance samples and mentally assigning the scents to my favorite men.
With my little gifts, I always bring joy - unfortunately not to my husband, as he fundamentally rejects fragrances.
What a pity.

Acca Kappa is not so easy to categorize, as it is both robust and elegant.
It requires a masculine - cultivated recipient.

It looks like Chief Forester Mani will have to fit the bill, as he feels at home both in the woods and at the theater.

The scent starts off strong - a bit gruff and medicinal, but then curves into a good old school men's fragrance.
The leather, which initially hits me strongly, becomes increasingly softer and milder.
Mani as a biker should like this.
Vanilla and incense create a bittersweet combination that suits the character of my dear friend.
The fragrance has a wide range - indeed between motorcycle gear and tuxedo.

My friend will appreciate this "balancing act."

soft-washed contemporary with spicy hints
The scent begins softly floral with a burst of rose geranium and a touch of spicy cardamom accompanying it. Ahhh.
Then a green cleanliness emerges around violet leaf and iris, very mild and gentle, slightly cushioned by a hint of bay leaf (like the spice leaf) and mild vetiver.
As it develops, the vetiver remains present, expanded by a less mild, somewhat darker accord of leather and cistus. Then, unfortunately, a rather sleepy-looking accord of a little mild spicy vanilla and a lot of cozy amber appears.

Compared to the EdT version, this tested EdP is significantly spicier and more radiant, which is pleasing.
Longevity is 6-7 hours, sillage quickly weakens to a good skin close. Suitable for both ladies and gentlemen.

For me, it is clearly a derivative of the current "fruity sweet soft" zeitgeist, the reference in the name to 1869 remains, in my opinion, a mere air number. Too soft-washed, too little "spice power" despite good approaches, suffocated in the cozy soft feeling, only a 65% overall rating, unfortunately.

Violets & bitter bay leaf accompanied by fine leather. Amber & vanilla gently soothe. Ethereal atmosphere. My favorite - still!

It goes in the direction of Eau de Memo; more spice from the bay leaf and less freshness. Over time, the spice becomes stronger.

A stable fougère, and in the drydown, the crazy cellar banana from Bat (2015) surprisingly appears.

The typical citrus-wood DNA of Acca Kappa is evident here as well. If you know one, you know almost all. In fact, one might think ...

Initially a great mix of "Aqua Fahrenheit" and "La Fenice pour Homme," leather, wood, and lots of violet nestled in a fantastic, house-made musk!

First a compliment-catching spicy leather-violet powerhouse, then a compliment-giving empath, finally an ambered early vanisher. Good.

Reminds me of Lalique's Hommage à l'Homme, but the longevity and sillage are rather weak here. Too bad, as I really like the scent otherwise.
