My Walk in Late Summer
It is late summer and the day is still very young. Dew lies on all the leaves, flowers, and blades of grass as I walk barefoot across the recently mown wild meadow to my secret garden.
The hay from the meadow has now been piled into various mounds, and the grass under my feet is already sprouting fresh again. The wildflowers have also begun to form new leaves and push their stems back towards the sun, but they will likely not reach full bloom again this year.
The haystacks I pass by smell wonderful, in harmony with the damp grass and foliage and the moist earth. Late summer is already drawing to a close, and autumn is sending its first messengers, which I recognize when I notice that the ground beneath my feet is already quite cool.
Finally, I arrive at my secret garden, open the gate, and step inside. Here, it still blooms and greens as if summer would last forever. But even here, the approaching autumn can be felt; the flowers no longer smell quite as sweet as they did in summer. The first autumn flowers are beginning to open their blooms, and the trees are already bearing ripe fruits. Walnuts and oaks, as well as the hazelnut bushes at the edge of the garden. There are also some apple and pear trees, and the large blue fir in the corner is already bearing large cones full of seeds.
It smells wonderfully green and soft as the sun warms the leaves and flowers, and my garden radiates a calm and beauty that is simply a balm for the soul.
For a long time, I enjoy this scent, and as the day slowly comes to an end, I reluctantly rise from my bench and walk back to the house. I love this scent that the meadow and my secret garden exude and take it with me.
You know it now too, for you are my accomplice, my Complice!
