Noblesse
He was great! Not to say one of the greatest fashion designers and couturiers of his time. Cristobal Balenciaga is still regarded among his peers as the guardian of elegance. Even Coco Chanel honored him as the only true couturier. What a great compliment! Among his most famous clients were once Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Ava Gardner, and Jackie Kennedy. All his creations were characterized by nobility, grace, and style. Flawless tailoring in the highest perfection. In 1962, Cristobal Balenciaga turned to men's fragrances for the first time with a perfume. Eau de Balenciaga for Men was born. It is his first men's scent, long before Ho Hang was released under his name. When looking at pictures and photos of the then still young Balenciaga and comparing them with Eau de Balenciaga for Men as a fragrance, it quickly becomes clear that he most likely designed this scent for himself. Eau de Balenciaga for Men deeply reflects his charismatic personality!

The scent
Eau de Balenciaga for Men is a warm and very sensual men's chypre. Nothing is harsh, piercing, or bitter about this creation. Spicy rosemary and gentle tones of light lavender introduce the fragrance. A pleasant coolness spreads, softly underlaid with citrusy bitter orange. Relatively quickly, the scent changes its fragrance color and becomes spicier. Clove can be very well perceived. Green and softly herbal notes add from geranium and green-spicy fern. And then it breaks through, this incredibly beautiful soft warmth in Eau de Balenciaga for Men. A dark green, warm moss accord leads into the base of the fragrance. Underlaid with soft amber and smoky, delicate vetiver, they surround a very fine tonka note that makes this scent appear so stylish and sensual. Deepest elegance!

Conclusion
Cristobal Balenciaga has also done justice to his name with Eau de Balenciaga for Men. It represents Balenciaga himself. His charisma and aura can be felt like the lines of his cuts and creations in this noble fragrance. Cristobal Balenciaga was a very reserved person who stood out due to his nobility and personality. So is his perfume. At no point is it intrusive in terms of sillage. The longevity corresponds to a very charming and long evening. Eau de Balenciaga for Men is very soft in its aura and carries the incredible sensuality that characterizes all his works. Including himself!

Getting this now very old fragrance is not very easy. Those who own it should consider themselves very lucky. Eau de Balenciaga for Men is virtually extinct. I was more than lucky to get it. It is still the first edition in the very first packaging that I received. However, if one can no longer obtain it, I can recommend a very old, more present, and richer twin of it,.... Hasu-no-Hana!

The two are very, very similar!

Citrusy spice once again, yet different
Yes, back then it was still possible...

EdBfM, a veritable classic that is hardly known in this excellent community and is not particularly easy to obtain. In one of the numerous (or almost "countless") vintage perfumeries in Bella Italia, I finally found it.

The impression and development of this fragrance must primarily be assessed with consideration of its year of release. Pour Monsieur by Chanel had already been around for several years, and one might think that Balenciaga took this chypre classic as a model, but ultimately created something entirely different. Lemon and bergamot in the top notes? Naturally, which men's fragrance from this era didn't have that? However, this impression is quickly replaced in the heart, where it becomes spicier, even a bit smoky. I attribute this to the fern and cedar. The usual suspects in the base notes then do their part to round off an extremely harmonious overall impression. The basic elements of this concept seem to have been picked up again in Gucci pour Homme (1976).

Truly old-school, if you will, even old-fashioned, but not old-man-like, as it lacks the harsh foundation of the heavier (and also sweeter) men's fragrances that would follow in the mid/late 70s.

Another never reformulated gem in my collection, and a true character piece.

A renaissance of old classics. Lavender, rosemary, citrus undertones, ferns entwined with cloves, amber on mossy vetiver, magic of nobility!

Mediterranean fougère that deserves a more expressive name.
Enduring lightness with an amber base.

Symphonic citrus Eau de Cologne. Singing flowers, Mediterranean mossy herbs & three soft tonka bean drops. Nostalgically beautiful & elegant.

Creeping start with lemon, acceleration with lavender and fern, gentle slowdown with moss and amber. Tonka is thankfully only subtle.
