White
"Pure Style" (the eau de parfum) is the first perfume ever by Betty Barclay which I acquired. It is housed in a rather minimalist white bottle, very fitting for the scent. It starts very white with freesia, a bit of bergamot and already lily-of-the-valley joins in. In the dry down this is supported by musk; I can not notice the other notes.

All in all it is floral, but a fresh greenish floral without a hint of sweetness and a slightly powdery touch. I would go so far to call it minimalistic and somehow it reminds me of "Blanc" by Joe&Paul. Also I think Jil Sander, but why?
It can be worn everyday, even for business and fits well for spring. The small bottle is good to take along, which is needed for touch ups as longevity is about half a work day.

My Number 1 Among Creamy Scents
One reason I signed up for parfumo after my collection grew to over a hundred bottles in just a few years is to analyze my wearing habits. I no longer want to acquire fragrances that will just gather dust in the back corner of my closet for years.

The winner in the "most worn" category is actually the drugstore scent Betty Barclay, Pure Style in the eau de parfum version. Since I enjoy musky scents, woody notes, and white flowers, this fragrance first made it to my wishlist, then into my collection, and has slowly become one of my favorites. As I find the overall rating too low, especially compared to the other two pastel scents from BB, I decided to write my first comment about this fragrance.

With fragrances, I am less interested in the individual notes than in the overall impression, and I find this one very successful. All other creamy scents from Nivea to Jil Sander Style to Femme by Bvlgari have been a bit too sweet or pleasing for me, but this one hits my taste and type perfectly: completely straightforward, simple, and direct. In particular, the absence of vanilla, tonka bean, and sandalwood, as well as other "warming notes," makes Pure Style special for me. However, I can easily imagine that some may perceive this scent as cool and unfriendly. For me personally, this composition is simply perfect.

Certainly, there are more complex fragrances with more character, but none gives me a greater feeling of inner tidiness. I wear this scent whenever I want to be myself and don’t have to play a social role. Whether I’m tidying up my apartment or doing yoga.

Once sprayed, I can smell the fragrance very well for over eight hours. However, I cannot discern a scent progression. The scent remains on the skin in its simple creaminess until it slowly fades after about 10 hours. I also really like the bottle. It looks chic in my white-gold-gray bathroom and fits very well in the hand. I even find its round shape to be a true delight to hold.

in search of...
... sleep and the lost scent.

Now, long after midnight, the Sandman just won't come.

I've already visited the fridge three times, crumbled cookies, smoked, flipped through the TV channels, forced a conversation with my husband and dog, wondered who might be happy to receive my call - and come to the conclusion that a night fragrance is necessary.

I rummaged through my boxes and drawers for Style by Night, but it remained lost.

Instead, I stumbled upon Pure Style, a scent I always considered a daytime counterpart to by night.
Yet I sprayed it, and was, once again, surprised by its bitterness, paired with freshness and flower-pure cleanliness.
A purchase from my mom, which somehow ended up in my belongings.

I had kept my distance from Pure Style until now.
Why actually - I ask myself now.

The bitterness is not blunt, but creamy, and gives a rather interesting note that also fits the late hour.
The scent is not dark, but distinct.
With a bright distinctiveness - emphasized by the freesia and jasmine.
With the lily of the valley, a certain coziness even returns.

Pure Style smells like my fresh bed linen - white, with small colorful scattered flowers on it.
I immediately feel like snuggling in and enjoying the magic of the new and untouched.

The cedar adds the smoky night factor, and I decide to postpone the search for the lost scent until tomorrow.
Pure Style is a good substitute.

I will now count fluffy white sheep.

Gentle Notes for My Stressed Nose
Should it be embarrassing to not want to describe an extravagant niche fragrance, as is now the norm here, but rather a so-called "drugstore scent".... pondering.... scratching my head... I don't care, I'm doing it!

My daughter chose Betty's "Pure Style" during our last shopping trip; she is 23 (not Betty... "gg*").

On the way home in the car, an indescribably good "clean breeze" wafted around my nose, my daughter was sitting in the passenger seat and exuding this breeze, enhanced by the air blowing through the ventilation slot.

Once home, Betty continued to shine alongside my daughter! So charming and youthful, white and cheeky, anything but boring, a bit tart yet indescribably feminine...
Something comes to mind... freshly washed cotton T-shirts fluttering on the line in the summer wind. One is slipped on, snugly styled with sexy jeans, the long brunette hair pulled back into a bun at the nape of the neck, chic jewelry, stylish handbag, minimal makeup. And off goes my daughter with Betty in tow...

The scent of "Pure Style" is a blessing for my "winter scent-stressed" nose. Loud fragrances had to be it, preferably a different one every day.

I also wanted a bit of "Betty" for myself. According to a comment here, I apparently fall more into the target group (45 to 60 years????) than my daughter. So I sprayed it on... and lo and behold... the chameleon transforms and adapts to me, suits a young woman just as well as someone in their prime... and smells a bit different. Riper and really interesting...

Soft-citrusy, white flowers, lasting base, reminiscent of a body cream, I stand up for "Pure Style" and believe it deserves more than what has been said here.

I tested the EdT and will definitely get the EdP (maybe it lasts even longer??). Betty deserves to be included in my collection with this scent. Wellness for the "winter nose," light and unobtrusive, yet very present and lasting. A beautiful, radiant everyday fragrance, mmmhhh…..

Clean but Cold
I should actually like it a lot. I do like it, actually. It is not sweet (not at all), clean, and a bit masculine.
As already mentioned, it is a creamy scent but not a powdery pink affair; rather, it is a unisex care cream with a neutral, slightly bitter touch.
It is a bright fragrance, but somehow not sunlight; it lacks warmth. It is very cool, not perhaps icy, but definitely on the verge of making you shiver. It feels as if you are being illuminated by powerful halogen headlights on a snowy winter night.
Therefore, I don't like to wear it in winter because I am a chilly softie; in spring, it is somewhat more bearable. In summer, the cedar comes through too much, and there are somehow "funnier" refreshers. Autumn, well.
I do find Pure Style beautiful, but also sober and frosty. I am rarely in the right mood to wear it with joy, which, as mentioned above, is actually a real shame.

Fresh and well-groomed, but not powdery. Magnolia's cool clarity. Petals that shine with cleanliness. Delicately soapy. Beautiful!

Edelcreme feels light and cool on the skin. Subtly floral, noticeable up close. Reminds me of Nivea EdT, but is more elegantly cozy.

Little sister of Trussardi's My Name. Creamy like a good body lotion, nothing bothers, linear, cozy cuddle fluff scent, an all-time favorite.

100% clean, fresh-floral-powdery clean, minimalist, hardly warm-cozy. Fluffy like snow - and fresh laundry on a summer meadow.
