My Powdery-Sensual Constant Companion
I have had this classic from Betty Barclay in my collection since 2000, so for almost 14 (!!) years now, almost continuously. No other fragrance has managed that, except for "Roma" or its offshoot "Mistero di Roma." Only with the difference that I hardly ever wear the Laura Biagiotti. However, I do wear "Betty's Woman No. 2." ;-)

So why has a rather unspectacular drugstore scent become my personal staple? In my early days on Parfumo, I often asked myself this question. Because one of the first things a newcomer to Parfumo learns is that mainstream and drugstore fragrances - especially drugstore fragrances - are usually dull, boring, and interchangeable. ;-) However, in 4 years, I have also learned something quite different: that even in the big fragrance houses of this world, they only cook with water - and that niche fragrances neither particularly appeal to me nor really suit me...

Liliales described "Woman No. 2" in her comment as follows: "(...) it is not an exciting scent, it exudes neither eroticism nor adventure, but rather an irresistible, quite sensual femininity and warmth that I will try to put into words: at home, cozy, airy blanket, pleasant warmth, security, an embrace, a gentle smile, soft harp sounds...". Now I finally know why I like it so much. This unexciting, simple scent appeals to me and fits wonderfully into my life.

The fragrance starts fresh and woody. Nevertheless, it is already soft and delicate here. Bergamot makes the scent fresh, but without reminding me of 4711. The top note lasts relatively long and then transitions into a clean-powdery scent: violets and white musk say hello. However, the violet is not overly powdery. I react slightly with headaches to too much powder in violets, but here the violet is pleasantly light. I don't recognize any sandalwood. The scent generally remains as it is, becoming a bit deeper and more vanillic, and that's it. So, there is no great scent development, which doesn't bother me, as I can't stand it when a fragrance completely transforms into something else over the course of wearing it.

The longevity is okay for me, lasting about 5 hours. I own the EdT and find that the price difference for the EdP is not worth it for this scent. In the "Pure Style" line from BB, the EdPs are much softer and rounder. However, with all three fragrances in the Woman line, I notice no difference.

For me, "Woman No. 2" is a beautiful, affordable year-round fragrance for any occasion. It fits well into everyday life, but also suits special occasions.

My 1st Perfume
My very first perfume. I must have been about 15 years old. Somehow a friend got me into it. Either I smelled it on her, or we sniffed it together in the drugstore. I still remember that I was immediately in love. I absolutely had to get the bottle, back then still in D-Mark! :D In retrospect, it wasn't expensive, but for a teenager with limited pocket money, it was quite a lot of money.

The perfume was like a treasure to me. I also received compliments for it back then. It just smelled beautifully of vanilla to me. The emphasis is on "smelled." When I stroll through the drugstore and see it sitting there, I don't dare to smell it. I'm afraid that I will be disappointed, that I might even find it repulsive, because my scent perception has simply evolved...

I don't want to ruin my teenage memories. So I walk past it every time and sneak a glance at it.

Memories of carefree times, hanging out with friends and boys to play billiards, first little flirts and having a crush. Discovering the world anew,
sending expensive texts from my first, own phone with an antenna… :-D

My favorite color back then was baby blue, so the packaging was love at first sight.

Ah yes….

Always Trouble with Betty
After Betty's sisters, the Style Twins, behaved extremely snobbishly during our previous encounter, I had no desire to meet the rest of her family. Given the blue bottle, I wouldn't have considered this family member anyway, as I would have imagined a fresher scent. However, when I read Nemorosa's comment, I changed my mind. The words "vanilla" and "powdery" always make me jump out of my seat, so I decided to at least give this lady a chance and take a closer look at her.

Since I will soon be traveling to the Green Island, I am also looking for a nice scent in a small travel bottle that won't bother the numerous sheep there or my fellow bus passengers. So I quickly went to the drugstore to test it, where the small size is currently on special offer. In the meantime, I have conducted two tests and come to the following conclusion: For me, it's a no. Absolutely no. The lack of scent development does not bother me. No. 2 is not too sweet; it is also somewhat powdery and vanilla-like, but this comes across as very synthetic to me. What really bothers me, however, is that it smells, with all due respect, "cheap" on me. I'm sorry to say it like that, but that's how it is. It must be the skin chemistry again. No. 2 doesn't smell unpleasant, but I feel absolutely uncomfortable with it. There are a hundred scents in the lower price range that smell better to my nose.

My fellow travelers and the sheep probably wouldn't have been disturbed by Betty No. 2, but I certainly would have been. So Betty will definitely not accompany me, and I believe I will keep my distance from her family in the future. This is not going to work out between us; we simply do not understand each other.

March Dream
endless winter
icy-crisp white
close to the oven
a gray man huddles

longing ponders
colors, warmth, light
tenderness
and a beloved face

far away
already a lifetime ago
eyes shine
no longer see today

it was March
just at this time
green tips
were getting ready

and still
its scent fills the room
weaves a smile
through the old man's dream
"Woman No. 2" is the second fragrance by Betty Barclay that I have had the pleasure of experiencing - its soft, cotton-warm sensuality invites you to dream and occasionally even breathes the kiss of the muse on the cheek of its wearer...

However, poetry alone is not always enough to convey a precise impression of a fragrance, so I would like to add a few more prosaic remarks:

Betty's second woman may not present herself as fresh or cool to me, despite the slightly misleading blue bottle - from the very first moment, soft musky warmth dominates, delicately enriched with slightly sweet sandalwood and vanilla.
Here, all components form a finely tuned and very harmonious mélange that reminds me a bit of "Soft Musk" by Avon, a fragrance I really liked in the mid-80s and which had a similarly soothing, lullaby-like effect on me.

Indeed: A fragrance for every day, perhaps not exactly in the height of summer and not for the grandest appearances, but still one of those scents that makes a woman feel "well-dressed" and with which she can't go wrong.

Indescribably Feminine
Woman No. 2 has been accompanying me for many years now. Floral-powdery, it is always my subtle companion when I have had enough of my usual scents for a day. In the past, I used to wear it whenever I wore light blue, following the motto "light blue aura, even the perfume." Upon spraying, it is briefly bergamot-rosewood, before immediately transitioning into floral powderiness, which I find surprising since no iris is listed here. I perceive the base as floral-woody, overall a very feminine fragrance.

A soft, creamy violet came here to rest. An unexpected find, while searching for a not-so-sweet Violet.

Delicate creamy scent from a time when drugstore perfumes weren't synthetic bombs yet. But beware: a bit of burpy musk.

A lovely almost-dive-in fragrance, as it’s subtly fluffy-sweet and vanilla - has been with me since the beginning of my perfume passion.
