Soapy and Floral...
I've been searching for a clean/fresh laundry scent and I decided to give this one a try. It does smell like laundry, but it's a lot more soapy and floral than I expected; think of actual laundry detergent rather than clothing fresh out of the dryer. But I don't hate it! It's still very much a "clean" scent, I can just smell notes *other* than fresh laundry when I spray it.

Unfortunately, the longevity is AWFUL. I know 99% of Demeter scents don't last very long, but this one is so much worse than the other ones I've tried. It lasts an hour at most on me, which sucks.

I Hate Doing Laundry!
Ooooh yes! As gently hinted in the title, doing laundry is definitely not one of my favorite household activities. In itself, this process wouldn’t be so bad, after all, it’s easy once you finally realize that you should sort the laundry and throw it in the washing machine according to type, like whites, colors, only black or dark clothing, etc.

And when you also know how the washing machine works with the different settings, washing laundry becomes a breeze. No no, I’m talking about what comes AFTER that… clean, freshly scented laundry… just waiting… to be ironed! Oooohhaaargggh! I really hate this step. Some say that you actually don’t need to iron, but I just like it when at least T-shirts and shirts are neatly pressed, yet I can never manage to make it look good or it takes a looooot of effort, which takes a looooong time to iron... after which, of course, you feel even less motivated... and you can only finish the ironing with the worst curses!

So,… I bet a scent that smells like fresh laundry will appeal to most here, especially the ladies, right? Therefore, today I’m commenting on Demeter's Laundromat, which translates to "Laundry Salon"!

The Scent:
The beginning is somehow chemically intense and smells more like a cleaning product than laundry detergent. This impression initially persists, although the scent gradually takes on a slightly sweet note. Due to the chemical note, the scent comes across as extremely synthetic.
Over time, however, you actually get an impression of fresh laundry. Especially when the notes that smell of cleaning products fade away and the scent takes on a softer, gentler note.
However, the scent remains synthetic, as you can still occasionally smell this note (and sometimes even faintly the cleaning products). I find that most of the scent, especially in the base, actually smells more like the detergent itself than like freshly washed laundry, meaning you perceive the scent that wafts out when you open the box of detergent, which is not unpleasant, but at least smells a little different from the washed laundry itself. The scent certainly conveys a feeling of cleanliness, as one would expect!

The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is actually weak, so it won’t project much to others.
The longevity is also short-lived and is hardly detectable after two or three hours.

The Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular and has a large label on the front that is almost overflowing with text. As usual, you see a stripe (this time light blue) with the name of the scent on the label. As usual, the bottle is purely functional and thus not beautiful :D

Hmm, so I must say that at first I thought the scent was totally off, as it didn’t smell like laundry at all. The cleaning product-like note (not to be confused with laundry detergent) can quickly be off-putting. But if you give the scent a few minutes to unfold, it starts to smell like fresh laundry. Or rather like laundry detergent.

However, a synthetic, sometimes even cleaning product-scented aftertaste remains, which gradually weakens. Later, this note is not so strong, so it shouldn't really be bothersome. It doesn’t smell like 100% fresh laundry; it smells more like a mix of fresh laundry and even more like the actual detergent itself, which brings it closer to the concept of a laundromat, and the scent is olfactorily successful in terms of the theme.

Anyone who enjoys a certain feeling of cleanliness in scents should definitely give this one a try. But if it’s about fresh laundry or the feeling of it in general, especially if it should smell a bit more perfumed, I would recommend other scents, like Softly by Jil Sander, Warm Cotton by Clean, Infusion d’Homme by Prada, etc…

* sigh *… soon I’ll have to do laundry again… and the worst part is that my cat always hides behind the washing machine and doesn’t want to come out for hours… what a nuisance he can be sometimes! :D

My Beautiful Laundrette
My first apartment had no washing machine and no dryer.
And so it happened that I would pilgrimage twice a week two blocks down the street to the laundromat. The dirty laundry in a large travel bag, along with a good book. My life lacked a certain regularity during this time, due to the daily grind, especially when it came to visits to the laundromat.

Every time I opened the entrance door, I was enveloped by the scent of freshly washed laundry, laundry detergent, fabric softener, stain remover. The sparkling rows of washing machines and dryers. Citrusy cleanliness. Polished linoleum on the floor. Reflective windows, looking out into the evening-dark black city. That was my time. Sometimes I was too tired to read. Then I would sit in front of the drum, watching the colors swirl together, enjoying the silence and surrendering completely to the staring idleness. Occasionally, I would engage in quiet small talk with other waiters. Chlorine bleach lingered in the air. Time never passed too slowly or too quickly for me.

I wouldn’t want to wear this perfume, but it is a beautiful reminder of the time when I first felt truly and completely grown up.

My wonderful laundromat - that’s what this scent smells like. A little soapy, lemon, floor wax, and laundry detergent.

Frau Holle
Once upon a time, there was a woman whose last name was “Holle.” She was responsible for ensuring that there was always clean laundry in her town and the many places around it. This was for people who either had none or didn’t have a very large (7 kg) washing machine at home.

Frau Holle washed all day in her little laundromat; she washed sweaters, pants, blouses, and shirts, and sometimes she even ironed them if people wanted to look particularly great in those clothes. She even washed children’s clothes, which were often completely stained or very dirty from playing in puddles. She washed towels, bed linens, and huge blankets because many people loved the special scent of their laundry.

Frau Holle knew from her grandmother that 'shaking out the beds' was already quite wonderful, but then she had the idea to wash them as well, and lo and behold, the comforters became much whiter, cozier, and more fragrant than ever before.

One day, while Frau Holle was busy washing laundry again, a tremendously strong whirlwind swept over the town. The police drove through all the streets and warned the residents over the loudspeakers to close all their doors and windows.

But the people didn’t listen; they wanted fresh air in their homes once again and even found it funny that the tablecloth flew off the table, the sofa blanket off the sofa, and the duvet, yes exactly, off the bed.

But the storm was so strong that everything that wasn’t securely tied down flew out of the houses. All the cloths and blankets, pillows and mats, curtains and drapes, jackets and coats - everything flew into the air, swept across the entire country, came back, and piled up right in front of Frau Holle’s laundromat.

Dear children, guess three times who got to wash and sort the laundry again?

Exactly, it was Frau Holle!

And all the people who hadn’t known her laundromat until now had to go to her to pick up their things, of course freshly washed.

And if you want to meet Frau Holle too, just tell your mom:

She should simply open all the windows the next time there’s a storm.

Suitable as a laundry detergent scent
"Laundromat" has a progression for me. At first, I smell something sharp and citrusy. Once the alcohol has evaporated, I detect something slightly floral with a soapy note. Since I only ever use the inexpensive liquid detergents because they don't have such overpowering scents, I haven't remembered for a long time what high-end powders smell like.
A detergent like Laundromat would be acceptable to me. "Laundromat" is pleasant.
For a brief moment, something musty emerges. As if the laundry had been washed for a few hours in an old machine. However, this smell disappears again. Then, a very light synthetic floral scent remains for quite a while, gently underlaid with the scent of lemon juice from the yellow plastic lemons.
But yes, I would buy a detergent with such a scent.
After the very sharp and strong initial scent that diminishes within minutes to a very light fragrance, I expected that the scent would have no longevity.
But this light scent lingers on the skin for a long time, even becoming a bit sweeter. My laundry should have the scent of "Laundromat" after washing, provided that it is no longer perceptible after drying.
However, I wouldn't want to use the scent as a perfume. I could use it as a fragrance spray for the wardrobe and laundry compartments. It might also be conceivable to spray "Laundromat" into the open drum when I know I won't be doing laundry for several days. Scenting the washing machine like this, with the door left open, could prevent the need to run a rinse cycle without laundry before the next first wash.

Is the laundry still fresh or was it in the machine a bit too long...? Luckily washed with little detergent - just about okay.

Sharp, citrusy at first, then floral, with musk joining in - a lovely laundry detergent scent.

Can't say much about it. A hint of fresh laundry, gone the moment you notice it. Even for Demeter, it's weak.

Smells exactly like "Glow" - clean, sterile, white-creamy, and impersonal. I don't want anything to smell like that on me. Annoying.

The name says it all. Fresh-synthetic laundry detergent scent. The theme is well executed, and the fragrance is easy to imagine on a hot summer day.

I really like the scent: like fresh laundry just taken out of the dryer and still warm. That's how I want to smell!

At first, there's a sharp alcoholic note.
Then comes the classic synthetic laundry detergent scent. It has something in between too :)

Not a laundry scent. :( Smells just like grandma's classic floor cleaner - lily of the valley. What a shame! It also fades too quickly.
