A summer day

I feel good every time I wear this… it makes me think of a white cotton tee shirt that’s been dried on a clothesline, with an underlying sweetness of vanilla and hint of a melting orange creamsicle ice cream. It layers beauty with sunscreen and afternoon naps.

Longetivity is pretty goood, especially for Demeter. It’s my go-to summer scent.

Sunny, creamy, unique

The dear sun... source of energy, giver of warmth, mood booster...

But what does the sun smell like?
Demeter / The Library of Fragrance must have wondered the same and created their own interpretation of the sun in the form of the fragrance "Sunshine".

What has emerged is an incredibly cozy warm-fresh unique scent that I have never experienced before.

In some reviews here, I actually read a few keywords that I also associate with "Sunshine". White T-shirt, ice cream... Yes, definitely.

My personal impression leans towards ice cream, and not that cheap "Fürst Pückler" ice cream for "einsfuffzich" from the brand "ja", but fine vanilla ice cream (with real vanilla) and a tiny splash of orange cream liqueur - no brand mention - ;)

Additionally, there is indeed this vanilla fabric softener touch, after the laundry comes out of the washing machine, is hung up, and the warm summer breeze blows EXACTLY this scent into your nose.

The fragrance is not particularly fresh but still not sticky sweet; it finds the perfect balance to convey a wonderful, sunny feeling.

Feel Good in a bottle.

For a Demeter fragrance, the longevity is remarkable; the scent clings quite persistently to skin and clothing, allowing you to get through a warm summer day without needing to reapply every 10 minutes.

The sillage is also quite impressive; there have already been plenty of compliments for "Sunshine".

Thus, Sunshine is my signature summer scent for 2021... alternating with "John Varvatos Artisan Blu" - perfect combo :)

Summer in the City

Cotton?
Forget the cotton,
tear off your T-shirt.
It's 33 degrees
and it's going to get even hotter.
It's summer in the city.
People are crowding in masses at the lakes and outdoor pools,
smeared with Lancaster sunscreen,
the good kind, the one that smells of vanilla and soft wood.
The sun is burning on the skin, you can smell it.
The heat has been lasting for weeks, no, actually months.
Everyone is nicely tanned.
Everyone longs for cool water.

This is that scent, the scent that absolutely smells of summer and sun,
the scent of t h i s summer.
If you have to wear a T-shirt,
then please one that has been softened with Softlan vanilla orchid.

Close to the skin it doesn't smell quite as good (hence the 9.5) but the aura that surrounds you is pure sunshine.
No idea why this is rated so poorly here, for me the theme "Sunshine" is perfectly realized and I love this kind of fragrance.

Vanilla Ice Cream on a T-Shirt

I was really curious about the Sunshine scent from Demeter.
I had it ordered as a larger sample through a very nice fellow Parfumo member from Demeter in the USA (the shipping costs are really steep if you can't share them).

When I first sprayed it for testing, I came to the conclusion of my statement.
To me, it smelled only slightly vanilla and had nothing to do with sun-warmed cotton.

In the meantime, I have tested it off and on, and now I have somewhat different scent impressions. Maybe my olfactory spectrum has expanded, or I can now simply distinguish more different notes.
Whatever the case, my new impressions are as follows:

Right after spraying, it smells pleasantly unobtrusive sweet, and yes, still vanilla.
But: I can now also define why it comes across so subtly and friendly.
For me, it’s due to the musk, which is present here in a light, airy version, and which is presumably meant to symbolize the T-shirt that, according to Demeter's description, is warmed by the sun.

Additionally, I perceive something light-floral, very delicate and reserved, yet always slightly & casually, but I suspect there’s something white-flowering in it.
This floral aspect gives the scent, along with the musk, something clean, pure. It is never sharp or distinctly floral, but only very soft and powdery.

Then there was a bigger surprise for me, as another scent note strangely appears to be aquatic. This note is again only very subtle, but I definitely perceive it.
I’m still puzzling over why a certain aquatic aspect was included here.
Did the perfumer want to refer to the freshly washed T-shirt?
Do laundry detergents for cotton or fabric softeners in the USA perhaps smell more aquatic?
I don’t know, but it certainly gives the scent something special, quirky.

A possible image for this scent would be:
A young lady (or a young man, if you prefer) has fallen asleep while eating a large vanilla ice cream, and lying in the warm sun near a lake, the ice cream is now melting onto her (his) freshly washed T-shirt.

For me, the scent doesn’t quite meet the expectations I had for it. Perhaps it’s already too quirky for my taste.
But it is well made and (especially for Demeter scents, not a given) definitely wearable as a perfume.
