Move over J'adore, this flanker puts you to shame
I'm not sure what made me test this fragrance, seeing that I'm not a fan of the original, however since having experienced this fragrance on the skin, J'Adore L'Or (or Essence de Parfum), is hardly anything like the original, and therefore far more pleasing to my nose.

This fragrance is quite a rich, syrupy white floral. It is golden and bold in its nature, and it seems to be far more elegant than the EDP version of J'Adore, at least in my opinion. It focuses primarily upon jasmine and rose, distilled directly from Dior's fields in Grasse. This fragrance isn't however your typical, soft white floral, because it is in fact quite complex and strong.

Smelling this fragrance actually reminds me of those big, loud and classic fragrances of the 70's and 80's. The richness is rather shocking and sensual at the same time. The fruity nuances usually found in J'Adore are missing in this particular composition, and in its place are thick and heady vanilla notes and resinous amber.

J'Adore L'Or of course demands your attention as a powerful scent and one that speaks of sophistication and elegance. Apparently it is an exclusive fragrance, yet I have managed to find it in quite a few small stores in my area.

The lasting strength is very impressive, however this is a fragrance that relies upon skin chemistry to work. Unfortunately towards the heart, J'Adore L'Or turned sour and rather chemical on my skin which was a huge let-down.

All in all, this fragrance doesn't feel like a flanker to me. I think it deserves another name entirely because I doubt that J'Adore lovers will appreciate this new release.

Francois Demachy, my friend!

Monsieur, today you are receiving a love letter from Germany. Surely, you have received many love letters in your life, but this one is different, I promise you.
It must be about 40 years since I wrote a love letter to a man, and back then it was only on letter paper, and for such occasions, I always used laid paper. Back then, you still had to stick a stamp on it and rely on the post. Who knows if such a letter would have arrived in France. The Stasi was also lurking around in mailboxes.
No worries, this letter is purely platonic. I have no intention of throwing myself at your neck or any other body part. However, I would like to thank you for this wonderful fragrance and for other beautiful scents such as: “Soir de Paris (1991)”, “Furiosa”, “Diorissimo”, the “J’adors”, among others, that I have already had the pleasure of getting to know.
But L’Or is in a class of its own. The elegant packaging states that the fragrance is oriental and consists of notes of Absolu Jasmin de Grasse, Absolu Rose de Mai, and Absolu Vanille. Aha, since not just any mundane essences were mixed in here, I took the liberty to inform myself about how an “Absolu” is created.

Absolutes are usually more concentrated than essential oils. The extraction process is gentler due to the low temperatures compared to the extraction of essential oils, which is why the scent is closer to the original plant. A classic example is the difference between distilled rose scent and rose absolute. Some raw materials are, by the way, too fragile to be obtained through the classic distillation process, which is why an absolute usually has to be produced here. However, there are also plants and flowers for which distillation methods are not possible. An example is lily of the valley. Lily of the valley scent has been produced synthetically for a long time.
Well-known absolutes are obtained from acacia, oak moss, frangipani, broom, hay, heliotrope, hyacinth, iris, jasmine, lotus, magnolia, daffodil, osmanthus, rose, tobacco, tuberose, tonka bean, vanilla, and others.

Alright, there aren’t that many absolute absolutes in L’Or, but it is a wonderful, noble, warm, and rounded bouquet of flowers with a splendid radiance. Slightly sweetened with tonka and creamy through amber.

So I invite you to visit me, as I have some ideas and wishes, and I would love to create a real bombshell a la 80s with 85 ingredients. Although I don’t have a distillery, absolutes are made using a gentler process anyway. We could mix something together in my Thermomix. Frangipani would be great, and lots of dusty iris, and if it turns into a chypre, I wouldn’t mind at all. We’ll make a whole canister, then I can send some samples to the folks at parfumo.

You won’t go hungry at my place either. I’ll make something regional. Coq au vin and ratatouille you can eat at home all the time. So you might get boiled potatoes with quark and flaxseed oil, marinated herring, or blood sausage with sauerkraut. There won’t be any Eisbein! I don’t want to cater to clichés.

So see you soon, and bring your perfume buddy along.

This is Art!
It is very difficult for me to comment on J'adore L'or - because this perfume is truly the absolute top class!

Elegant
Feminine
Madam-like
Strong yet subtle
Luxury
Gold
Sea of flowers
Perfumed
Powdery dream
Light oriental
Round!
Perfectly!!
Perfect!!!

So, a few fleeting impressions...
Now to the scent:
J'adore L'or is truly a dream of a perfume; I tested it because I finally wanted to get to know the complete J'adore line.
I own the EdP and even that is a beautifully crafted, timeless women's perfume.

But J'adore L'or tops everything; I would love to give it 200%.
On the skin, it starts floral/soapy/powdery/rosy - very elegant, feminine - luxury to spray!
It smells like an expensive soap; I think the tonka bean provides the light gourmand note that sneaks in more towards the end of the scent's progression.
This perfume has real punch, is very unique - well, the price is not insignificant. But I already know that I have to have it someday.
By the way, it would be a month's worth of cigarettes.

The test strip is still next to me, you can still perceive J'adore L'or well, even after three days - the dry down is rather gourmand and restrained.
On the skin, it lasted over 12 hours with 3 sprays on Saturday - it even survived a really wild night in a dirndl.
However, it's too precious for partying; more suitable for truly festive, special occasions.
I can also imagine it very well in the office; although J'adore L'or smells very expensive and exclusive - not that you step on anyone's toes with it...

Mhhhh, I can't express enough enthusiasm for this perfume - it would truly be a perfect signature scent!
I wish people would think of me with this scent ;)
A perfume that not every third person wears, with an absolutely high recognition value.
The bottle is also a dream in gold, the most beautiful of the entire line.

So, enough raving - it seems the only solution is to save up or fight the nicotine addiction.
Thank you Dior, for this dream of a perfume, a true work of art, a dream in gold...

Top notes were fabulous! Then it became a freshly peeled peach-no peach in the notes! Not terrible, but I'm not ever a fan of peach notes.

Not a copy of the series. Just WOW. Smelled it on a stranger and bought it. Seductive femininity in a bottle.
