Nothing new here, move along
Got the sampler while I was out shopping at Shopper's Drug Market. Didn't even know there was a new J'adore flanker coming out, but I decided to try it, why not? Before we go into this, y'all be aware I have the J'adore Eau de Parfum and the J'adore Parfum d'Eau as full bottles in my collection so I'm a little bit more knowledgeable about the J'adore line than other perfumes.
I'll say it right now, it's not worth it, except if you want it for the bottle (which is admittedly very beautiful). I'm getting more and more tired of brands churning out never-ending flankers and reiterations of a line that has an exhausted brief (but that's another story). As for J'adore L'Or, the first thing that came to my mind was Flora Gorgeous Jasmine , Why? Because the jasmine is the most overpowering note of them all. It came right in, barreling through the door, leaving nothing in its wake except a huge indolic, powdery scent that is almost exactly the same as Gucci's interpretation. I will add that towards the end there's a creamy aspect that tentatively tries to break out, but fails miserably. I detected no roses, no orange blossoms, just a huge, looming, in-your-face-I-want-all-the-attention jasmine. There's no delicate, sweet, sensual aspect I've come to see in the J'adore line, but rather an overpowering single floral note. I'm particularly disapointed since Francis Kurkdjian seems to be a reknowned perfumer and by the interviews, I was expecting something new that would add to a line of timeless classic perfumes. I got the opposite.
I might be a bit frustrated and jaded, but if I scale back the negative emotions, overall J'adore L'Or is a jasmine forward perfume that may fit the bill if you don't have Gucci's perfume and if you're in the market for a nice bottle of perfume. It's floral, powdery, indolic, more feminine-leaning. Doesn't last as long as I was hoping for (became a skin-scent after 2 hours). It's not bad per se, but I'll be sticking to the J'adore perfumes already in my collection.
EDIT: I just saw the price of a 50ml bottle on Sephora. 221$CAN ?! HELL NAH.
