Fruity and uplifting leather
I can see why Oud Maracujá is the flagship of MC's Oud trilogy. While Oud Stallion is elegant and Oud Cadenza is sensual, Maracujá relies on an incredibly fruity opening with delicate vanilla in the drydown. It only makes sense for such a scent to be the most popular out of the three. But does it live up to the hype?
Jordi Fernández once again indulges me with great perfumery of opposites and transitions. Fruity scents aren't my thing, but I have to appreciate this gem. The passion fruit accord is fruitier than any fruit I have experienced in a perfume thus far. It feels ripe, juicy and all up your nostrils, backed by citrusy facets and a spicy punch from saffron.
It doesn't take too long for "leather seats in a new car" type of leather to show up, loud as usual with MC extraits. Meanwhile, Oud accord brings out its bold and short-lived animalic quality. This fruity, spicy, sweet, leathery and animalic stage lasts for 30 minutes, then the fruitiness steps back, allowing the sweetness of rose to dictate the pace.
This phase reminds me of Stallion, but instead of cherry nuances, Jordi opted to use vanilla. I prefer Stallion's more sophisticated approach, but I have to admit that the vanilla used in Maracujá smells gorgeous and natural. I guess this could be attributed to benzoin entering the mix so seamlessly, almost singing in unison with rose and leather.
After an hour, the slightly tart rose sweetness fades away and creamy vanilla blends with leather and patchouli. This results in a sweet, leathery drydown with a touch of chocolate. Akigalawood is very subtle, perhaps a smaller percentage was used to support the natural woodiness of benzoin, cistus absolute and patchouli.
So yes, the social media hype is actually justified for once. Oud Maracujá has a youthful scent profile and is easy to wear despite packing a punch. It's unisex, innovative with its juicy passion fruit opening and has more character than your average vanilla fragrance. Performance is great, it lasts for 10+ hours on skin with 4 hours of projection.
