Awesome opening lack luster dry down
We find here a confusing conundrum, on one hand the initial opening is sublime I detected a spicy earthy dark aged tobacco note that was not sweet at all melded perfectly with a semi funky spicy coriander infused oud note, now we get to the interesting part, in the mid a juicy green apple basil accord can be clearly detected , but alas it is only present for a brief time then goes away completely, the dry down is 95% pure Alex II so all in all great start and mid with a disappointing finnish.

Almost an Alexandria II twin
When I reviewed Alexandria II about 5 months ago, I wrote, "Fresh opening dries down first a little more floral and finally to a woody/powdery scent." That's essentially what I got with Alexandria Orientale. I can't compare how different the two are since I no longer have a sample of Alexandria II. Alexandria Orientale does have a stable or barnyard opening, rather mild for an oud fragrance, and it only lasts about 5 or 10 minutes. Beyond that, the final dry down scent - woody/powdery - was way too powdery for my taste, similar to the problem I had with Alexandria II. I have other oud fragrances in my collection that are much better than Alexandria Orientale.

Performance is very good - great longevity and strong projection. The scent, however, due to the powdery accord is not very good.

Best Alexandria!
After finishing a sample of Xerjoff Alexandria Orientale, I decided to buy a full bottle of this outstanding fragrance.

A masterpiece with a slightly powdery base of Laotian oud, amber, vanilla and sandalwood. Palisander is not listed as a note, and I don’t know if I’m being influenced by Alexandria II, but I get quite a bit.

Great longevity and fragrance bubble, not my office scent, but the one I tend to choose when working from home.

Powdery Oud
A “nice” oud.

Generally, I am not a fan of powdery scents, which I pick up here. To me, not as interesting, or as much depth as some of the other ouds I have: - Amouage King Blue (fruity) & Silver Oud (smoke), Oud Ulya Attar (animalic), Oman Luxury’s Kajar (Cypriol) & Oud Aquilaria (Apple) and Arabian Oud’s Mukhalat Nagdy Maliki (Saffron) and Al Siraj (Rose).

I would reach for all of those before Alexandria Orientale. I will happily use my sample up, but not a full bottle for me. Unless a few wearings changes my mind!

More herbal, less sweet Alex II
Has part of the original Alex II DNA, a lightly medicinal agarwood and a crisp green apple top, but it replaces the soapy lavender and sweet cinnamon with a fresh basil plus faint incense. It's slightly "oudier," more sour, but to a pretty marginal degree in the air IMO. The green apple still pops from my skin, and combined with the basil this one comes across much more green. Alex II with an herbal twist. Strong projection for 2-3hr, longevity 12hr+ as a dry basil skin scent.

While I do love basil, lavender and cinnamon are two of my personal favorite notes so this doesn't surpass the original to me. I would also say the original is more versatile because it's overall fresher, with the added soapiness plus more subdued oud.

Short opening w/tart apple + oud cheese. Subdued cheesiness stays around. Slight leather in dry down. A bit better than A II but v similar.

Great cowshed oud in the opening. Softer in the drydown. A darker woody Alexandria II, less sweet and dusty with herbs and a subtle leather.

Less oriental than Alex 3, but more of the medicinal touch, which, weird as it sounds, works really well. Nice twist

Alex II backbone, crisp green apple with a woody oud, replacing the cinnamon + lavender with incense + basil. More sour, more green/herbal.

Oudier compared to A2 from beginning to end but Oud remains pleasant. Oud very prominent in the opening but tones down. Still close to A2.

Clean, musky oriental soap of Alexandria enriched by gentle barnyardy oud. Best of the line, yet similar enough to feel like a cashgrab.

One of the best from Xerjoff. Nonetheless it's all marketing and branding: perfumery is something else.

Relative to Alex2, Orientale opens more sweet-aromatic. Doesn't have that powdery accord from A2 and the performance appears a lot weaker.

Having a decant, it begins animal and quickly softens towards more common and known wood. Good!
