A Epic Spicy Citrus Potion
I love this fragrance! I can't believe I got multiple samples of it on my last visit to the Diptyque counter several months ago and have never tried it until today. I was busy trying to convince myself that somewhere within Diptyque's Volutes, L'eau Tarocco and L'eau de Lente, lay my new Summer signature scent. I love the low-moderate sillage as well as the transparent quality of Diptyque creations and I also love the dichotomy of surprisingly good longevity with this line, at least on my skin. L'eau de L'eau starts off very citrusy and fresh on the top notes with a sunny lemon note with a pinch of dry cinnamon powder. I don't really smell any grapefruit or petitgrain, but perhaps I am blocking these out since they are not my favorite notes. For the first five minutes my reaction was "Meh, that is just o.k." and then suddenly it was as if someone wearing a beautiful orange blossom, lavender and geranium scent walked in, lit a clove cigarette and ordered a chilled candied ginger martini with mandarin zest peel curled over the side. Then I realized it was, in fact, L'eau de L'eau. This scent definitely changes and expands over time. The top was fresh, almost professional, brisk and urban. The middle is clove-a-licious, dark and spicy almost Goth and the base is a mello, soft and calming Tonka and Benzoin. I don't detect the patchouli here, but that is a good thing, IMO. It all mélanges together culminating in a Your-skin-but-spicy-scent. This is masterfully blended and would make an ideal signature scent for a man or woman. I would wear this primarily for daytime- it's very close to the skin after the first hour, but seems to be lasting a good 6 hours. I'm almost sorry I got into this sample because now definitely need a full bottle ASAP!

Aquaman's Scent!
L’Eau de L’Eau… so if I understand correctly, the scent is now water from water or water out of water or something like that? How does one come up with such a name?

This could have been thought up directly by Aquaman himself… and I, being a nerd, am already mentioning a comic book character again… oh no, oh dear! … and to top it off, a rather unpopular character (I quote Raj from The Big Bang Theory: “Shitty Aquaman!”).

Be that as it may, since Philosykos I have been testing Diptyque fragrances from time to time, but I have hardly found a scent that I liked as much as the mentioned fig scent. I even found some quite dreadful (e.g., Olène), but as they say, one does not give up (unless you don’t want to read any more comments from me, then I’ll quickly and sadly disappear from here *sniffle*).

Well then, let’s get to the scent…

The scent:
At the beginning, you can definitely smell a grapefruit, which also smells nice, but for a scent that one might think is fresh because of the name, it is quite spicy. Because right after application, you can perceive a very intense cinnamon and clove note, with the clove being so strong that it can almost overwhelm you if overapplied.
A little later, the scent has a slightly classic touch in the background, which might be due to the notes of lemon and lavender. The cinnamon fades a bit, and the clove also becomes calmer.
Along with the roses, slightly floral notes come in, lightening up the scent a little.
The fruity notes from the base remind more of oranges and fit well with the other scents.
A bit later, you can detect a slightly soapy-synthetic component, which you have to smell for specifically, and the impression is almost lost through the somewhat sharp clove, which is still well detectable in the base, while the slightly sweet cinnamon remains in the background.

The sillage and longevity:
The projection is strong, the scent will definitely be noticed by others, and that for a somewhat longer period of time. If sprayed on generously, a scent cloud will surely remain!
The longevity is quite good at about eight hours!

The bottle:
The bottle is tall and more rectangular than the somewhat rounder bottles usually known from Diptyque. It is clear and has a transparent label with a frame on the front. Besides the name, there is a drawing of a rocky stream and trees.
The cap is black and cylindrical. Everything is nicely done, although it might have looked better if the label had a white background.

Okay, I am glad to be able to write here that L’Eau de L’Eau has turned out to be quite a nice scent (and not yet another Diptyque flop for me). The scent gives off a rather autumnal atmosphere for me, as it comes across warm and is not as fresh as the name L’Eau might suggest.

As a daytime scent for the somewhat not-so-warm summer days or early autumn as well as in spring, it is quite usable. Additionally, it is more of a daytime or casual scent than one meant for going out.

I wonder how Aquaman sprays himself with a scent underwater? No,… I’ll stop with the comics, you probably don’t want to know anything about that anyway (whyyyy...??).

Yes, the scent is finally a Diptyque fragrance worth checking out, as long as you don’t have an aversion to a strong clove scent!

Summer Oriental
This scent is strangely good! You definitely have to like the combination of cinnamon, fruit, and clove. I really enjoy what I'm smelling.

My first impression after spraying: mulled wine in a fresh-fruity summer version. Although the cinnamon and clove are noticeable from the very beginning, this fragrance is not heavy at all.

Even with the heart note, the scent remains pleasant and does not drift into a wintry territory. The ginger gives the heart a nice light spiciness.

It then transitions into the base with a spicy-fresh character. This becomes a bit sweeter, while the cinnamon note fades. Patchouli and tonka bean are well balanced. Despite the oriental note, it lacks the typical heaviness often found in orientals.

As a fan of oriental perfumes, I say in this case: thumbs up for L´Eau de L´Eau!

Whoopie! Cinnamon is in charge here. All phobics, hands off, please.
What’s amazing is that even in the top note, a strong cinnamon note stands out. It seems to detach itself from the back of the hand and waft around in the air. You can’t ignore it at all. Occasionally, a few fresh, slightly prickly tones peek out cautiously from under the spice cloud, but they don’t really dare to come out.
This scent is for spice lovers. After the spectacular cinnamon appearance, the clove slowly joins in, running protectively in front of the ginger. This doesn’t weaken the intense onslaught (somehow the blend reminds me of rice pudding with sugar and cinnamon, warm, cinnamon freshly sprinkled), but it does become calmer now.
Where can you wear this scent? Naturally, everywhere. I would be a bit cautious with it in the office.

A summery-refreshing fragrance that prioritizes the (Christmas) spices over the citrus notes. A good Diptyque!

Green cinnamon, fizzy like cola, with minty geranium & sharp ginger, moderately sweet, delicately soapy & powdery. Parallels to the Eau by CdG. Yes!

Summer scent for those who don't want to give up cinnamon. I actually think cinnamon is pretty great too.
