Straightforward and refined
I came across Ofrésia unexpectedly, because a kind soul in my professional environment brought me a small sample of it. I'm sure you know what it's like when it slowly empties and you sniff a little wistfully at the last drop in the vial. After a rather short period of reflection, it was clear to me that the original size would be my new home.
Ofrésia is a perennial favorite for me, as it is a wonderfully straightforward and uncomplicated fragrance that is by no means boring or under-complex. It is suitable for a wide variety of social occasions, is always present but does not impose itself. So much for the abstract.
Yes, and what does it smell like?
In the opening, I detect a note that reminds me of the smell of flower stores - fresh and cool leafy green and a little narcissus. The freesia is also present here and, for me, comes very close to the natural scent of the flower (or the corresponding essential oil). In contrast to other fragrances with white flowers, I can't detect any pomposity or excessive sweetness here, everything remains fresh, clear and balanced. As already written: Ofrésia is straightforward, so there is not too much of a scent progression. The heart of the fragrance then becomes creamier thanks to the clove, which reminds me more of bearded cloves. This is where Ofrésia really comes into its own, because this simple construction is so finely interwoven, simply round and beautiful. This wonderful creaminess continues in the drydown and is grounded by some wood, which I find rather sandy, and a hint of pepper. Lasting power and sillage are very good for a fragrance in this category and an EdT at that; after around four to five hours, a very faint hint remains on the skin.
Who would I recommend Ofrésia to?
Fans of the classic fragrance Anaïs Anaïs by Cacharel are very likely to enjoy Olivia Giacobetti's modern interpretation. Those who like White Tea by Elizabeth Arden will find a similar fragrance mood in Ofrésia, despite the different components. If you often find fragrances with lily in the leading role too oppressive, I would also recommend its little sister Freesia.
C'est ça, c'est tout.
