Scent of an unfulfilled dream
Among the few of the ELDO’s that I have sampled so far, this one is a winner when it comes to the longevity and aura. A very comfortable blend of soft tobacco scent with some sweet powder and a lot of tonka - but I like it.

The opening mesmerizes me with the orange blossoms that are dipped in creamy musk nuanced with some honey. It’s a good thing for me that the sweetness does not last that long and is not overly intensive. It soon gives way to the tobacco notes, soft leather, mild rose and powder, and that’s how it continues to play far into the dry down. Even though I find it leaning towards the feminine side, it’s because of the gourmand oriental impression that I would be occasionally wearing it, when the mood would call for it.

On her skin the perfume is immensely sensual, calm, warm and intimate. It creates a desire to be near to someone, to have someone in your arms.
To a man, this might be a scent invoking the feeling of calmness, being at home, in a haven, in the only place where everything is ok - and if now it is not, it would be, by the time the sun rises. Waiting for the dawn, in someone’s embrace, that feeling could make him pull his arms to his chest, crossing them inadvertently as if he has something to hold and keep safe. Something that isn’t there, but once was. Or that is yet to be?

Feeling like you’re the worst person in the world, but you’re just 17
I used to wear a marshmallow and leather jacket body spray as a teenager that smells super similar to this fragrance. The ELDO version feels like that angry 17 year old that still lives inside me.

Its a gasoline soaked orange blossom marshmallow, with a well worn leather jacket, doused with vanilla body spray that’s been shop lifted from the shopping centre you frequent with your friends, haunting the entrance chain smoking cigarettes and drinking sweet rosé out of the bottle. There is a sense of crushing empty I get in this fragrance, like the feeling of being such an irredeemably awful person, and wanting so badly to be loved, but also revelling in the feeling of being feared.

Divin Enfant perfectly encapsulates the peripheries of late adolescence, the 10 pack of sterling dual, your dad’s old leather jacket, the back seat of an older boys car, powdery marshmallows, black coffee spiked with something sinister, a feeling that you’re running out of time, and also feeling so young and stupid.

You weren’t evil, you just were 17.

For real sweet tooths
Tobacco smoking and coffee drinking child dressed in leather. This child is a real sweet talker though.

I love the contrast. You have to be a sweet tooth to like this one. Nice! Sweets without the additional calories! Or at least I hope so.....

Sweet dreams of soft perfume
Slightly citrus influenced, soft creamy, slightly boozy, malty. Initially very rich and very soapy. Soft, soft, rosy flowers with vanillary, chocolatey creamy almost alcoholic nature. Maybe a distant sweet mace or nutmeg nuance. Everything in this perfume is soft and gentle. Like entering a creamy cloud and dreaming of perfume. Something is so familiar in here. A comforting clean smell but sweet. A bit like Johnsons baby powder on a newly washed babies bum, but the recently removed nappy is still over there, far away in the corner.

There is an old fashioned accord here but by that I mean well structured. The flowers have a sharper, firmer, structured edge that I cannot identify, possibly this means a sharper lavender with the rose but the sharp note is softened by proper grown up madagascan vanilla and mysore type sandalwood. It might be sweet but it isn't going into the realms of too cute.

Very pretty and soft, suitable for a young girls very first perfume. The sweetness is pleasant and not overpowering, like the sweetness in a milky drink with cocoa, nutmeg and rum but so, so gentle.
This perfume is hard to catch notes from because it moves from one to the next with alarming rapidity and ends up at creamy sandalwoody vanilla soap in less than fifteen minutes on the skin.
Unexpectedly pretty but short lived as anything identifiable, but the softer musky soapy bit lingers.

Now i've just revealed the name to myself and that is extremely funny. This is so very amusing.
(I'm blind testing a series of ELdO samples, so these reviews are from nose notes.)

Naughty but nice...
Ok so this is where Etat Libre d'Orange starts to get it's reputation from, a "controversial" concept! Here they take the image of a child, using happy, childish, "innocent" notes: marshmallow, orange blossom, rose, soft musk, and combine them with "adult" or "grown-up" notes like tobacco, coffee and leather. However they blend (surprisingly) quite well!

It opens up with a very sweet and cool orange blossom. Very sweet, which is also the marshmallow note. Then it gets softer (but still stays very "sweet & innocent"). Then the cold tobacco and hints of coffee and leather come through, very soft and fluffy. In fact, this whole fragrance could be described as "soft and fluffy"! It's really nice!

I think if you are a gourmand lover you would appreciate this one, or if you like sweet scents. It's not too cloying but it wafts across the skin giving a wonderful aroma throughout the day, and it's quite pleasing. It's a very "happy" and soft fragrance, I don't see the controversy here. I think people who like sweet scents would like this one. To me, Etat Libre d'Orange is not as controversial as people say (or indeed as their own marketing tends to make out)! I find this quite wearable. If you like soft, sweet, "fluffy" types of scents, then you'll like this.

Sweet powderbomb to begin with. Dries down nicely into soft floral accords. The orange blossom is nice. Stays powdery.

An orange blossom mixed with coffee and cleaned up with baby wipes. Unique and comforting. Better on sunny days. One of the best ELdO frags.

A summery floral-orange with enough warmth to not smell Popsicle-y. Has the projection of hand sanitizer.

opens with marshmallow and orange blossom, but when it dries down it becomes less feminine and adds the best tobacco, a hint of coffee and leather

Soft, sweet ambery musk. Felt like something I've smelled before. Lasted all day on skin!

On paper strip it smelled okayish, though I couldn't distinct anything. On skin I could barely sense it was there. I'll give it another try.

A little strange... Leather and tobacco make too much of a statement for me. Dry-down has a slightly soapy quality.
