Sophisticated non-rose
Within the concept of Unum line, which in rough terms drawns a line (pardon the pun) “from darkness to enlightenment” with a tight connection to spirituality and Medieval Gothic architecture and art, Rosa Nigra is meant to be the third fragrance in order – the brighter, the sweeter, the “purer”. If you want to skip my review: a terrific standout, here and in niche in general. Not my personal favourite of the line, but still great. Although despite the name there is no rose in here, the first fragrance I though of as a rough reference at first was indeed a rose heaven - Lyric Man by Amouage; if my memory serves me correctly about that, I think here I get some similarities, mostly due to the “darkish” treatment of fruity notes, but overall tad quieter here, and less opulent. And honestly far more fascinating, less suffocating, with just the right amount of “weightlessness” and airiness allowing you to experience a really “dimensional” composition. Anyway, in the first minutes it does overall evoke a rose smell somehow, especially its more dark-carnal and syrupy-fruitier sides, but avoiding any camphorous-soapy effect. Complex on one side, but also totally “straightforward”, almost simple on the other. Basically it’s a sort of bright and uplifting fruity-herbal sandalwood scent with velvety floral nuances and a warm base with powdery-vanillic hints. More fruity at first, with an incredibly nice smelling peach note (vintage Piguet’s Visa somewhere there...) showing a slight aqueous substance, surrounded by juicy flowers, leafy herbal angles and enriched by sandalwood. A clean texture, substantial but elegantly balanced between crisp sharpness and balsamic exoticism, wrapped in a sophisticated, warm and enveloping allure (the “trait d’union” among the three fragrances – a dusty, vanillic, slightly fruity ambery accord). On the drydown, quite the same but woodier, more discreet, somehow muskier too. Dense, rich, incredibly refined and appealing, deeply fascinating, with an undisputable high quality of materials and an irresistible feel of peace and radiance... still, with an austere, and kind of dark vibe, like the other two scents of this line. “Dark” in a “liturgical” meaning, if that makes sense. All of this backed with a solid concept: I usually can nearly never stand marketing releases and “storytelling” stuff, which often look like an unnecessary boring load of clichés, but here’s different – just give a look at Rosa Nigra’s page on Unum page while sniffing the perfume, you’ll get what I mean (if you read Italian). There is indeed a solid connection showing the brand’s solid and cultured approach to perfume making. Unum is basically a mixture between dark avantgarde/contemporary aesthetics, Medieval Gothic architecture and culture, a non-banal spiritual discourse and an overall “sacred sense of beauty”. Rosa Nigra perfectly fits some facets of this, as the other two fragrances do with other aspects. Perfect quality to all extents. Bravissimi!

Dark dried flowers
Peachy, rosy in a cold way, spicy, thin and quite dark. A sombre perfume for serious occasions. My nose is picking up on a slightly spicy cold saffron note that isn't listed. In fact I see no spice listed so it must be the absinth creating this feel. Seamless blending with no notes jutting out more than the others creating a slick effect. Rosa nigra feels like an impression of some old dried flowers on some parchment paper and to my nose, it has an incense vibe with an old dusty powdery coldness. Interesting and wearable but certainly not cheerful. Nice for smart business meetings.

rose with no rose
very interesting take on rose without using any rose in it. I like the way it performs and it's 100% unisex beast. It's a subtle beast though. You won't be rocking nauseating BR540 sillage (maybe only longevity wise). Instead think of Rose & Cuir by Frederic Malle but with leather dropped out of the composition. It's fresh, sublime and yet it is dark and heavy due to the ambergris and sandalwood. Really interesting work by signore Sorcinelli.

It doesn't all have to be "rosy"...
...what doesn't shine!
Pink in Rosa Nigra only refers to the color. Fluffy soft, delicate pink with pastel-colored cotton balls. Do you know those transparent bags from the drugstore that contain these colored cotton balls? That's what I mean!
Rosa Nigra is like a cloud, soft, squishy, like a cuddly little sheep that you want to reach into and squeak "tuzi tuzi" in baby talk.
With Rosa Nigra, you float effortlessly, weightlessly, and contentedly with the wind. Freesia, lightly scented with apricots, floral and delicate. Cashmere wood, amber, vanilla, and musk are like a hug from a dear friend. Heartfelt and warm. Iris and absinthe clash a bit, but give you a charming and cheeky grin. "Watch out, I may be small and delicate, but I'm actually a concentrate and dangerous."
All in all, with Rosa Nigra, you are well dressed. A feel-good fragrance that adapts to almost any occasion. Filippo, gentle this time and not harsh. This time he packed his 6-pack into a cotton shirt. If I tell him that, he will surely laugh and scold me in Italian *grin*

Nicely composed, but not particularly complex peach scent
With "Unum - Scusami | Filippo Sorcinelli" the most feminine and atypical Sorcinelli. Lots of peach, subtly fresh, but mostly quite powdery and sweet, yet not too artificial. Very smooth, polished sandalwood that is hardly perceived as such and reminds more of the skin or the subtle pit of the peach, with fresh light flowers behind it at the outset.

It becomes a bit drier in the first 15-20 minutes, the peach a bit more authentic, calmer, the sandalwood spreads out a bit more noticeably and on the other hand, the flowers become noticeably more floral, instead of just giving pure freshness.
The anise comes in only as a subtle green tone, adding a slight bitterness after 30-45 minutes; if you were blindfolded, you might not even notice it.

In the dry down after 2h+ then the warming, round amber, becoming slightly autumnal, or for an evening out, musk still provides a certain necessary acidity, so it doesn't become too cozy-powdery, but none of this changes the still clearly peach-sandalwood/cashmere wood-focused base tone, which remains similar from start to finish.

Overall, a nice, rounded peach scent, not particularly complex, but well composed. Not necessarily what I would reach for from Sorcinelli, but more than solid.

Although no "rose" in Rosa Nigra, it smells like Amouage Lyric Man - light. More complex and discreet, but still noticeable in a good way.

Tea Rose Eau de Toilette - i truly believe not including a rose note in this counts as perfumery ragebait.

Finding a cool, shadowy corner of a stone church in summer. Understated, soft focus, slow burn. My favourite unum.

Unusual Sorcinelli's! Rosa nigra seems to be a playful alchemy, a spring morning instead of a mystical twilight.

The black rose is a peachy baby. It comes harmlessly and on relatively quiet soles. No thorns, lots of synthetics. Becomes powdery.
It's okay.

A (Non)Rose scent just to my taste. Floral and powdery combined with a great synthetic note and a bit of dry wood.

One of the more interesting rose scents of late: rose without rose, rose on a fruity-woody base, synthetic rose in a polyester dress. Beautiful!
