like a Shipwreck!

Unda Maris 8 - @filippo_sorcinelli

Tradition - entrusted to the pen of Antonio Mazza, illustrious member of the Almo Collegio of the Medical School of Salerno (1600) - narrates that in 1453 a work of art was found on a beach in the waters of Salerno, following a shipwreck of a merchant ship that escaped the fall of Constantinople into the hands of the Turks on May 29 of the same year. The same tradition tells that a bricklayer found the table, while he was intent on obtaining sand for his work, he hit the table with a shovel and suddenly he was paralysed, his screams made many people flock, who worked to dig in the sand, until the icon of the Madonna appeared, which was immediately taken to the nearby Church of Sant'Agostino. Every year on August 6, a procession on the sea recalls the landing and the discovery of this ancient panel that the people of Salerno call "The Madonna who comes from the sea".

Unda Maris 8 in my imagination is nothing but the trail that the bilge of the boat releases: the sea water impregnates the wood while the incense released during the procession joins the sea breeze.

A lateral thinker goes wild

Deep, dark and yet so luminously sublime, the spark of hope always in sight: Filippo Sorcinelli's signature is unmistakable - one loves it, the other...you know.

Phase 1:
The attack resembles a more balsamic version of Ford's "Oud Minérale": sharp mineral, tart and slightly aquatic in orientation, very interesting. Does not reach the spiciness of the "Squid" from the Zoologist series, because always only the sea spray in front of eyes but committed to the land mass. Loses after a few minutes but visibly in intensity - the phase lasts only briefly.

Phase 2:
Things are getting greener! No representative of the impassable thicket, rather one of the herbaceous guild, carrying the sickle always close to the body. Thanks to the wooden chords in the middle part then but noticeably drier, no comparison to the prelude - neither full-blooded Adequate nor evergreen forest rat. Overall, a rather foolhardy balancing act, which is undertaken here!

Phase 3:
In the drydown then unfolds a soapy melange of balsamic notes, which lasts for several hours, but only towards the end real (smoky) depth can be glimpsed. The "Unda Maris 8" does not reach the usual degrees of combustion of a "Quando rapita in estasi", but also seems by far more portable than the aforementioned, big brother.

Conclusion:
Craftsmanship undoubtedly interesting implemented, I would have wished me above all in the base note but more texture. Connoisseurs of the house know what they are getting into, all others are possibly slightly overwhelmed whether the complexity of what is offered. Alternating emotions are therefore pre-programmed, joy and disappointment are very close together here. As a result: a very complex fragrance.

Durability and sillage are more than decent: sticks depending on the day form up to 9-12 hours on the skin, makes all kinds of development (s) through. Sillage rather close to the body, but always perceptible, even after several hours.

I like the anyway, somehow.

The small church on the coast

You wrote about the church on the coast, about the sea and the seagulls so picturesque that I asked you to send me a picture and you fulfilled my wish. Now I walk far above the crashing waves on the flank of peaceful cliffs and find you sitting there at the foot of a church with a view towards the ocean.
Then suddenly everything is silent movie. I watch the movement of the image spellbound, see the bright, almost citric incense moving in slow motion from the gate of the small chapel to the cliffs, accompanied by balsamic benzoin drops, saturating itself on the dark haze of the warm dry earth, the cloud changes colour again and again, shining brightly, shimmering amber-brown, cooling down on the edge of the cliff, where the wind swirls the turquoise image of the ocean into the billowing laundry room.
A few impressions later the painting seems to calm down, the cloud warms the wind from the sea a little, Mytre mixes green herbs into the blue painting, shimmers faintly eucalyptus from somewhere, white salt crust grows on the skin, the sea foams again the calming rhythm of the crashing warm waves. It is beautiful here. It could be like that this summer **
"Unda Maris 8" is a very unusual aquatic exhibit. While at the beginning the light incense note, which for me here is very excitingly interwoven with earthy patchouli, balsamic benzoin and the smallest amounts of vanilla and tonka to a smoother version of an oriental incense, still sneaks around the aquatic note separately, the notes embed themselves more and more into each other as the process progresses, the aquatic gets the upper hand a bit, cautiously green notes come to light, before the fragrance darkens more and more into the resinous. Apparently Sorcinelli presents us here with a funny pyramid puzzle.
The cap of the flacon represents the register of an organ tone, consisting of two organ bars that make the tone oscillate, slightly shifting the phase of the two tones and thus creating a "wave of the sea".
The projection of the scent is moderate for about one hour, before it can be perceived up close for about four hours afterwards. "Unda Maris 8" is for me a reflection of the meditative peace and warmth of a day by the sea.
