A very weareable oud. Beautiful but too commercial
I would like to start by saying that Francesca Bianchi is one of my favorite perfumers and also one of my favorite perfume brands. Especially with the perfumes of the first collections: the lover's tale, sex & the sea.... Real unique bombs with exceptional performances.

However, among their latest launches I can't find a fragrance that really creates a need for me to buy (considering that I already have many of them).

And that is the case with voluptuous oud. I love the perfume itself. It's one of those perfumes that smell good. Woody, caramelized, slightly fruity and woody, and with that special touch of leather that Francesca gives to her fragrances but, for me, it's too conventional a scent, more so coming from her. It is as if lately she is looking to expand her sales radius by creating softer and more commercial fragrances, following more the fashion and tastes of most people at the moment.

And a funny thing that happens to me is that in these latest launches they all look too much like others to me. It happened to me with byzantine amber, a perfume that I loved but that reminded me of a much softer version of The dark Side, a perfume I already own. Then it happened to me with Encounters, a perfume that by scent would be one of my favorites, but that resembles too much to two others I already had: Divine perversion and Luxe Calme volupte, that yes, again with a much lower performance..

And voluptuous oud was not going to be different. In this case I have to say that the top notes managed to seduce me. A licoricey, citrusy and sweet top note but with a slight animalic touch produced by the oud. "It seems that Francesca is taking a risk again, and I love it...". But no, it was just a mirage and immediately the intensity dropped to lead me to a perfume that I already have in my collection "Divine perversion". Actually VO is like DP but changing the raspberry for an oud note that only stands out at the top, because afterwards, as in the hedonik perfume, what stands out the most is the leather and caramel.

Does it smell good? It smells great, in fact that's why I gave it the highest score here. Does it perform well? Compared to Francesca's initial perfumes you notice quite a big drop but still, if you compare it to other niche brands of similar or even higher price range the performance is still good, just not exceptional as before Would I buy it? Well, the answer is that I honestly would not. Although I liked the output I do not see sense having Divine perversion because for the price range it seems to me a high investment for unfrute that lasts about 15 minutes. I think that if you don't have Divine Perversion or The Black Knight in your collection and you are looking for a sweet leather perfume with touches of oud easy to wear, it can be a very good option since Francesca always offers a very good quality fornthe PRICE.
Anyway, although I don't dislike it, it becomes a new "pass" for me. And it makes me very sad since I'm looking forward to find a new Francesca perfume that I fell in love with. We will continue to wait...

Romance at short notice was her specialty
First impressions of Voluptuous Oud are like opening the door to a grand parlour - a brief, sharp intake of leather and wood that quickly softens into something far more gracious. The oud here isn't the fierce creature of perfume lore, but something more refined and restrained, like old leather chairs that have absorbed decades of warmth and welcome. Each breath reveals new facets of comfort - buttery undertones, traces of wood worn smooth by time, the particular richness that comes from allowing things their full measure of ripeness.

This is a scent that understands the difference between abundance and excess. It settles into its own nature with quiet assurance, offering the kind of comfort found in well-loved spaces where every element has found its proper place through long association. Everything arranges itself just so, creating a world of perfect comfort and refinement - until you notice that somewhere, somehow, the shadows have begun to lengthen in impossible directions, vetiver's bitter fingers grasping at the edges of what might be more than shadows. Yet what lingers longest is that buttery sweetness, rich and golden as an afternoon dream of darker honey, its lushness tempered by threads of burnished, brooding vanilla and sandalwood that render it less confectionery and more contemplative.

This is precisely the sort of artful, beguiling fragrance one reaches for when they wish to romanticize their life, those days when a simple afternoon begs to be transformed into something more mysterious and meaningful. It reminds me irresistibly of Saki's "The Open Window," where a young girl transforms an unremarkable afternoon into something extraordinary through sheer force of imagination. Like the best storytellers, it creates its own reality - perfectly composed, utterly convincing, and just possibly not quite what it seems.

A sloppy mashup
This is what happens when Tom Ford's Oud Wood and Ombre Leather (or even Ella K's Ghibli, which is very similar to Ombre Leather anyways and both made by Sonia Constant) collide in the most uninspired way possible. And surprise, surprise~ it offers absolutely nothing new.
At this point, I'm no longer shocked. Francesca Bianchi's creations have become a predictable exercise in derivative mediocrity and the whole brand is starting to feel like a glorified clone house, featuring popular classics and vintage gems clumsily or sloppily resurrected, then drowned in her signature waxy, fruity, balsamic "salad dressing" base that she often tries to pass as luxurious "orris butter" (??).

Sure, Francesca. Maybe if you bury Mitsouko, Femme Rochas, Tabac Blond, Chanel No. 5, and, in the most recent releases, certain classic and/or discontinued Tom Fords deep enough under that suffocating sludge, we’ll all be too confused to notice it’s just recycled, sticky chaos. Spoiler: We noticed.

Just... no. Hard pass.

Sweet almond and leather
It took a while for me to figure out what I was smelling. It has a rich and full scent. Very unusual Realized I was smelling almond and a slight citrusy sweetness mixed with woody leather. Took me a a while but realized I really like it. Subtle to be worn anywhere any time. It doesn't smell light and fresh but it is very cozy and warm.

Where do I know you from?
The signature of "Voluptuous Oud | Francesca Bianchi" feels somehow very familiar to me, but I just can't recall which fragrance it is that smells similar - you can tell I've had quite a lot of scents on my nose by now. The longevity on my skin is around 12 hours with a successful sillage.

The top note starts fruity, citrusy, sweet, but also refreshing thanks to bergamot, mandarin peels, dried plums, sultanas, green apples, as well as peppermint. The heart note remains fruity but is accompanied by oriental spices like saffron, allspice, and nutmeg. The base is leathery, gourmand, woody, and somewhat creamy with aromas of vanilla, caramel, benzoin, amber, as well as suede. Unfortunately, I can only detect oud subtly, even though the name promises it.

In the end, I find "Voluptuous Oud | Francesca Bianchi" quite successful but rather feminine than unisex. I thank Sören for the sample.

Overwhelming thick heavy sweetness with oud on top. The oud fits nicely but overall it’s just unwearable for me.

I pick up oud on skin only. The sillage has a yellow-tinted, creamy vanilla amber over new suede. Gourmand without sweetness.

Easy to wear powdery and sweet Leather perfume with touches of oud, above all at opening. Beautiful but not unique. Good performance

Something different from Bianchi’s signature. Smell good no skanky Oud no animal notes!

A very unusual blend. oud soggy with sweet amber. A thick creamy ambery sweetness equal parts oud. Hard to define. But I like it.

I don't think it will really satisfy Oud fans. Black Afgano vibes, much sweeter and fruitier, more leather.

Exactly my humor, the only excess is the oud-asceticism. Smells like overly sweet candies, burnt combined with *wink wink* leather.
