Dying rose

To me, this perfume is all about the rose. And it actually tells a story. It starts out with this beautiful flower, great smelling from miles afar. As time goes by, it slowly degrades and loses its sweetness. It dies and the dirt takes over from here.

Some people detect apple in the opening and I get that. It’s a sweet red apple, not of of those green sour ones. It doesn’t last long though, just the couple of minutes in the opening.

Just like Monkey Special, Deified has a great patchouli note in it. Nothing damp, but earthy it is. It makes itself known after a couple of hours. It also shares the great projection and longevity with its flanker brother. But that’s about it.

I now smelled Deified a couple of times. Sprayed it on my wrists in stores, where it stayed on my sleeves for weeks. It got more interesting the more I smelled it. Now I gave it a full wear by spraying from this official Xerjoff miniature that I’ve got and yeah I’m in love. This one’s getting a full bottle purchase.

Awesome addition to the Tony Iommi family

Was pleasantly surprised with Deified. The first thing to note is that it's not in anyway similar to Monkey Special. It's its own fragrance. I don't know if Xerjoff's thinking is this is a flanker. Of course, a flanker without any relation to the OG is possible (extreme example is Cartier's Pasha collection). As a generalization, if you like Monkey Special, you might like Deified; if you dislike Monkey Special, you also might like Deified.

Deified opened fruity, mildly spicy and somewhat fresh. As it dried down, it became darker with the leather which is more of a creamy-smooth variety; you won't be smelling like new car leather seats. The spiciness picks up a bit and a beautiful rose note becomes apparent. Deified is not a rose fragrance; it's more subtle. Antaeus comes to mind with its beautiful, subtle rose, although Deified's rose is a bit stronger than that but not prominent. The rose sticks around, I think it was for a couple of hours, but then retreats and merely supports the general creaminess of the scent. At that point, Deified stayed pretty much the same for me through out the remainder of its life.

Speaking of which, longevity is very good. The next morning, probably about 22 hours after application, it was still quite noticeable to me. Sillage and projection are very strong for maybe a couple of hours and then it gradually pulls back to a more compact scent bubble.

Regarding sweetness, Deified is significantly less sweet than Monkey Special. For that reason, I didn't classify it as "sweet", however, there is some sweetness - it's not a dry fragrance. Overall quite masculine. I really like it as much as I like Monkey Special even though they are quite different. Look forward to getting a bottle, although from a discounter.

Am curious to see what else Xerjoff comes up with in the Tony Iommi collection.

Monkey Special set the standard too high

But hey, at least it's not a flanker - that's my biggest takeaway from my first wearing of "Deified Tony Iommi | XerJoff". However, while the scent does not feature any overlap at all with "Tony Iommi Monkey Special | XerJoff", it nonetheless doesn't wow in terms of originality. This review is of my initial impressions in June 2024.

The first few seconds tried to trick me with "Deified Tony Iommi | XerJoff" because I remember when the scent came out and everyone was comparing it to Boss Bottled Eau de Toilette. For no more than 3 seconds In the top Deified feels masculine aromatic, but then it quickly goes VERY dark. Whether the opening is oud or leather, I struggled to pinpoint. The feeling of dark tonalities made me think of both "MV Agusta | XerJoff" and "Oud for Greatness | Initio". But the apple is also very prominent in the top, so I thought it might be a cross-over of MV Agusta/OFG with a scent like Smoking Hot.

But then as the dark tones slightly fell back, the scent that it started to remind me of the most is OmanLuxury's Oud Aquilaria which is an inspiration on Frederic Malle's Promise Parfum. When smelling the scent from up-close, I initially get a leathery-oudy patchouli fragrance with apple. It wasn't before ~5 minutes in that the saffron really started to become an apparent tonality and the comparisons to "Oud for Greatness | Initio" started to resonate more with me. But due to the rose and the apple, strictly calling this Oud for Greatness is not accurate. It feels more like a cross-over or an in-betweener of Oud Aquilaria and "Oud for Greatness | Initio". Comparisons to the profile of "Aqua Regia | XerJoff" feel inaccurate due to Deified having a prominent sweetness, zero floral tones and the leather not being of aromatic quality; but if somebody wanted to say that the leather in the ultimate drydown has vibes of Aqua Regia, I wouldn't be upset about it.

While the saffron didn't wow me at first, it does balance out in the end. I get above average sillage, but nothing very strong nor nuclear. I am expecting longevity in the 9-10 hour range which I'd rate an 8/10. The value on the scent is not outrageously poor, but I would still call €275/50ml expensive in the current market when you consider the scents I compared it to as well as the type of product you can find on discounters for this price (see: Nefs and even Jump Up and Kiss Me Hedonistic isn't that far off). Overall, a good release that was not able to live up to the hype of "Tony Iommi Monkey Special | XerJoff".

Excellent addition to the Iommi

Just buy it, the apple and cinnamon intro to this fragrance is sooooo enjoyable (if you are into fruity fragrances that is), I was thinking it was cherry till I looked at the notes... The leather comes in later on, but its a nice escape from the standard Monkey Special Iommi.
I'd have loved to get the special edition signed version, but 650 smackers, seemed a bit too much for me & it was already sold out.

This will rock in the summer.

A linear palindrome

Deified Tony Iommi opens with a dark, damp rose scent with apple mixed in. The many other reviews saying this is not a flanker of Tony Iommi Monkey Special are absolutely correct. I don't find any similarities between the two, which is great.

The cinnamon is lightly introduced after 15 minutes but the fragrance remains dark the entire time. I also get strips of leather during this time that remains throughout its lifetime, and twenty minutes onward, Deified becomes linear for the rest of our 7-8 hours together.

A nice and masculine fragrance but not one I'm after. Something in it reminds me of tart olives which I don't like the taste or smell of. It's too heavy and makes me choke if overapplied, and it's quite unfortunate because I wanted to like this one.
