Cointreau, not Cognac
Frapin's main product is cognac, not perfume. In fact, some of their perfumes – not all – are related to the culture of celebrating a high class brandy. On what occasions do you take out the snifters from the cupboard? Like a good single malt, also a cognac is a fireplace beverage, an after dinner drink. It is best when it is cold outside, and it can contribute to the cosiness of a relaxed evening at home or in the bar of an ancient hotel.

However, if you are looking for a fragrance that directly mirrors the taste of a Frapin cognac, the sweetish 1270 would probably fit best. But with its soft woodiness, also Passion Boisée follows that path – yet, it had been granted some freedom to go for a lighter style. It is suitable for early autumn or springtime rather than midwinter.

Passion Boisée consists of two main accords that go together extremely well. One one hand, there is an elegant woodiness that might give you some images of blond woods, not necessarily antique furniture. On the other hand, this is contrasted by the most beautiful mandarin accord. This mandarin in not just fruity, there is a certain creaminess to it. It gives me the idea of a very creamy white ice cream that has been marbled with a fruity mandarin sherbet. Some soft leathery notes might play their part in changing and softening the fruitiness of the mandarin. I think they are hidden in that creaminess.

What makes Passion Boisée still fit into the scheme of a cognac perfume is that it is rather relaxing, not energizing. However, it is doing so in a light and elegant way, and it is a very optimistic perfume. And even more: after a few glasses of a good Frapin, you might feel relaxed, mellow, and in high spirits. In a way, this beautiful fragrance has quite the same effect on me – without the aftermath of alcohol.

With its lightness and rather simple structure, one might be tempted not to take Passion Boisée seriously – that would be a mistake: Passion Boisée is extraordinarily wearable, and perfect for lifting up one's mood.

I have to admit that Passion Boisée is best in the top notes where that mellow mandarin ice cream is rather distinct. In the drydown, the creaminess becomes a bit vague. It leaves more room to the woodiness then but it doesn't vanish completely. Since the leather and mandarin ice cream accord is something rather special, I accept this withdrawal before it could get on anyone's nerves.

Honestly: Passion Boisée is closer to certain French orange liqueurs, namely Grand Marnier and Cointreau – but these brands are not owned by Frapin. To cut a long story short, Passion Boisée is the best mandarin fragrance I have come across so far. I enjoy it a lot. Highly recommended!

Rum Balls
Yesterday, a quick visit to the extravagant local perfumery.
I was in the mood for something exquisite.
A heavy bottle caught my eye, exuding solidity.
Passion Boisee.
But the scent is not as massive as the bottle.
Spicy nutmeg and bright tangerine are pleasantly harmonized - Pari Pari.
Neither steals the spotlight from the other.
The oak moss provides a natural depth, blended with cedar, evoking thoughts of a reddish-golden aromatic autumn forest.
Then delicious full rum enters the scene - so appetizing that rum balls come to mind.
I recall the joke set in a pastry shop: The customer: I would like rum balls.
The pastry chef: Here you go - there’s plenty of room!

But - jokes aside - the rum indeed brings a lively touch to the fragrance composition.
The leather note makes the expressive scent a bit daring, and patchouli adds an oriental kick.

An inventive, original fragrance that pairs well with jeans, a leather outfit, or the little black dress.

Happy Little Fruit
Perfume tests at nearly 40 degrees Celsius... quite crazy. :)

Recently, I ordered some samples from ALZD, including "Passion Boisee" by Frapin. And I have to say, the scent is fun. However, the longevity isn't that great, while I feel it lasts longer on the test strip. On the strip, I detect a distinct dried fruit aroma. Anyone who has ever been in one of those gift knick-knack shops and had their decorative bowl filled with such dried fruits knows the smell. And it lasts a long time on the strip.

The skin experience is also good, even more beautiful in terms of scent. While it doesn't have a strong sillage, it's subtle and lovely. The opening features tangerine. "Passion Boisee" comes across as beautifully fruity. After a short time, it gets even better. A wonderfully soft, restrained note develops. The fruity accord remains present. Something else joins in that makes the perfume even better. I would guess a rum-patchouli note, as a certain sweetness from the rum is still noticeable.

With this, Passion Boisee slowly fades after 1.5 hours of wear, and you really have to get quite close to the skin... It could have lasted longer, but it's not too bad; just a quick re-spray will do.

The idea sounded good...
..but the fragrance could not meet expectations. Because here, it seems, the scents of the Champagne region and the city of Cognac were supposed to be captured.

Thanks to Hasi and her sample campaign, I was able to pursue this, if that were the case.

I have neither been to Champagne nor to the city of Cognac..but I have of course already experienced both famous drinks..if that is supposed to be the benchmark, then it would rather miss the mark. Because the scent immediately begins with a wonderful rum note, which, to my knowledge, bears no extreme resemblance to Cognac..I was already looking forward to finally getting a Joop Homme Wild rum note in niche quality..but the thought was not fully formed before it was gone again..Cedarwood, especially the oak moss, has overwhelmed it abruptly..very unfortunate. The alcoholic note that it has afterwards can no longer be assigned to any drink..with a lot of concentration, imagination, and will, something like a noble barrique cellar comes to mind or rather reminds me of it..the slightly musty (cellar) sweet-spicy wood note that one can wonderfully inhale at the wineries. Speaking of cellars...the patchouli note is there but for me it is negligible..here the noble light leather clearly dominates, dominant means here, leather and oak moss define the scent..the fragrance does not develop significantly further. With the exception of the rum note, the scent reminds me extremely(!) strongly of Bois D'Iris by The Diferent Company..even though no iris is included in the fragrance pyramid..I don't want to force any in..but the similarity is striking.

If the rum-alcohol note were stronger and lasted longer and the oak moss were slightly toned down, this could have become a very beautiful fragrance (for me). Of course..oak moss probably serves here as a filler and extender, otherwise Passion Boisee would completely run out of steam after 1-2 hours. A glance at the price list would then lead me to prefer TDC, but even that could not win my heart and was sold again. One thing I must give it credit for, you can tell every second that it is a very noble and well-made perfume..even if I can't smell any Champagne and Cognac.

Like a noble drop...
...this perfume presents itself to me. After opening, you need to let it breathe a little first, so that the whole aroma unfolds. You can immediately tell that you are dealing with a complex enjoyment. In the first few minutes, a rum-soaked mandarin presented in a beautiful wooden bowl comes to the forefront, which then gradually recedes to allow a light leather note, combined with slightly woody scents, to take the lead.

Passion Boisée is certainly not a fragrance that one should judge immediately after the first sniff. It belongs to the scents that can only be assessed after a long-term test on the skin. If I had only been allowed to sniff this fragrance briefly, it certainly would not remain in my collection today. I would have set it aside with the thought "too much." But on my skin, the scent develops in a very pleasant intensity with an appealing scent progression.

On Parfumo, Passion Boisée is currently listed as the lowest-rated Frapin fragrance. I cannot agree with that at all. The sillage is much more pleasant than that of 1697, the longevity is also okay (it lasts all day without any problems), it has a pleasant scent progression, and it clearly distinguishes itself from the mainstream sameness. Therefore, I give it a test recommendation ;)

Oh, a Western scent! Sturdy cowboy boots, saloons & country. Rum-soaked wood, rugged oak moss, leathery orange, nutmeg. It's something!

Here I feel like I know it from before. Rum, patchouli, and leather are in the foreground, the rest serves as a base. Not my scent.

I can't wipe the grin off my face. Did I drink rum, eat a tangerine, and lay down in the moss? Apparently!

Beautiful rum-fruit scent. Overall, the fragrances from this brand seem very high-quality to me. A light spiciness rounds it all off.

To me, it smells somewhat cheap and the performance is really questionable. Not for me. I primarily smell citrus.

Great, BUT it has a salty note for me. It reminds me too much of hearty food, so I have to pass!
