The guardian of the underworld has a rose garden
Do any of you remember the Disney film version of Hercules, in which Hades is a somewhat choleric gentleman who often bursts into flames? Well, this gentleman seems to enjoy a bit of gardening in his spare time, he cultivates a beautiful rose garden, which is a bit gloomy and dark due to the lack of daylight. The smell of algae, salt and something indefinably old-woody wafts over from the Styx.
Hadès is an unusual rose fragrance. The sample reached me as a souk addition and since I bravely try everything I can get my hands on, I also tested this fragrance. A certain darkness, reminiscent of incense or basically a smokiness, paired with a soapy, creamy base creates a very confusing fragrance experience. It's not sultry enough for an oriental and yet spicy. It's not really green or fresh, yet it has hints of moss and galbanum. It is floral but not light and 100% unsweet.
It's definitely not my cup of tea and yet I don't think it's bad. Would I wear it? Probably not. I wouldn't know when. But it's beautifully made and offers a previously unknown interpretation of rose.
Hadès has enormous longevity with fortunately moderate silage. I don't see it in very warm temperatures, at least not on me as a blonde, sporty woman. But I think that depending on the skin chemistry, it can even work on men if you like the floral components. Definitely not a 0815 blind buy candidate...
