Hello folks, I'm back again. And yes, I'm testing a men's fragrance once more! Hm, I really should try more men's scents… I've only been testing and describing fragrances for women here, but that's coming to an end, ha!
No, of course not, you ladies don’t need to start crying just because you read this comment of mine, but I will try to describe men's fragrances more often :))
And I’m starting with the latest Armani Code (2023) here. Why this fragrance? Well, I actually find Armani not bad among designer brands. Especially in the past, Armani had some really great scents, until they eventually became very diluted and even more synthetic than such fragrances already have a synthetic touch, but then they got back on track and the fragrances improved again. And yes, I generally have had good experiences with the Code, with a few exceptions.
So this fragrance immediately caught my eye, and I wanted to test it as soon as I was in the fragrance section of a store today. Alright, the first thing that caught my attention was the Luna Rossa Ocean from Prada, because I still haven’t been able to test it (I also like Prada), but seeing how poorly the Luna Rossa Ocean is rated here, it might have been a stroke of luck that the Prada bottle wasn’t available and I therefore reached for the Armani.
Well then, let’s see how the fragrance is!
The Fragrance:
The fragrance starts fresh with both mandarin and lavender. For a brief moment, the zesty mandarins are the stronger scent note, but then the lavender becomes increasingly intense, giving the fragrance a classic men’s scent aura. This might sound a bit negative since there are so many fragrances like this, but it still smells good.
As I mentioned in my above description, one must also accept a certain level of synthetics in such fragrances, which I expected from this scent, and you can smell it here too. Fortunately, however, the synthetic aspect is quite bearable and doesn’t smell as repulsive as a cheap fragrance can sometimes smell, but still, a noticeable synthetic note is present. Nevertheless, the fragrance is pleasant to wear, and it also has the typical Armani aura.
In the end, you can still smell the lavender while the mandarins continue to fade. And as indicated in the fragrance list, cedar and tonka also come into play over time. Especially the tonka makes the fragrance even more pleasant with its slightly powdery and sweet touch.
At the very end, the fragrance mainly smells of lavender and tonka bean, and the synthetic notes become significantly stronger, which would be my biggest criticism here, as such synthetics are never particularly nice, but there are definitely worse things, so perhaps one can overlook this in this fragrance (or should I say, should I close one nostril?? :DD).
The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is strong, so you can smell the fragrance from quite a distance. Of course, it fades a bit after one or two hours and loses a lot of strength, but that’s the case with many fragrances. The longevity is also quite high at over eight hours, at least for me.
The Bottle:
The bottle has a slightly cylindrical shape and is black. The Armani logo and the name of the fragrance are printed on the lower part, so there’s no label. The cap is also black and cylindrical. Somehow I expected a magnetic closure here, but that was not the case. In any case, the Armani logo is also on the top of the cap. All in all, a modern-minimalist bottle that looks good, but is still nothing groundbreaking. However, it fits very well in the hand.
Conclusion:
So, Armani is certainly not reinventing the wheel with the new Code. Or the fragrance? :D
Be that as it may, strictly speaking, you get absolutely nothing new, but rather familiar fare that radiates the typical Armani flair. It’s not a fragrance that one absolutely must try, and anyone who really dislikes synthetic notes might not find anything appealing here.
But personally, I find the fragrance quite okay, especially for everyday wear, which you could wear at any time. Sure, for my taste, the synthetic note could have been less, especially in the base, but hey, there are worse things. Since I haven’t really followed the Codes from the last few years, particularly during the Corona pandemic, I don’t know how this fragrance compares to past scents, but it’s still quite nice. I’m more of a fan of Armani’s “Acqua di Gio” line, but I still liked this one more than average.
For those who want to test or wear it, I recommend spraying normally. Because fragrances like Armani, Gucci, etc. tend to lead some people (and I don’t just mean those half-grown teenagers or young adults who think they’re the big shots :D) to spray themselves from head to toe and then back from toe to head until a third of the bottle is empty :D
If you do that, the fragrance becomes very, very, really very overpowering and can even be unbearable, achieving the exact opposite effect if you want to impress the ladies… just a little hint :D
Well, that’s it from me again, so have a nice evening and see you next time!
