Soft-Spicy Allrounder

This fragrance came into my collection via a blind swap. Goddess is one of the three scents dedicated to the legendary actress Greta Garbo. And the scent is quickly explained: Goddess is spicy, light, soft, slightly woody, and all of this in a rather sweet manner. There are no surprises in the scent development; it remains largely linear. Not too harsh, not too sweet, not too dry: You can't go wrong with this one, it doesn't clash, this fragrance is absolutely suitable for daytime and the office.

Did Greta like it and would she have worn it? Hard to say. But to become a goddess with this perfume or at least to feel like one, in my opinion, it doesn't quite make the cut. I think it could have benefited from a bit more depth, a bit more character. It stays quite superficial and therefore - for me - narrowly skims the line of boredom. Goddess has a pleasant reach, is definitely noticeable without bothering others, and lasts a few hours.

Whether it has much or little depth, Goddess is nonetheless a really beautiful fragrance, and I had to think for a while about whether to keep the goddess or not. However, since I want to reduce my collection (once again!), I ultimately decided to let it go.

I want to be alone

...is one of the cherished favorite quotes of the divine Garbo. But is it because of this fragrance? Well, it is certainly not intrusive or unpleasant. More diva-like than diva. More intrusive than the old Opium and about 1000 other fragrances. Unpleasant: Well, tastes differ, and for inexplicable reasons, I am not a fan of resinous orientals or human scents, whether real or synthetic. Goddess is unspectacularly ladylike. A kind of mini-vamp for the office. The colleague can't gossip, but the intern won't be turned on either. Pleasant spice, well-groomed fluffiness, decent longevity, and moderate sillage. I smell plum and freshness in the top note with a lot of imagination. The base slightly reminds me of KL Femme, the 80s cinnamon roll from Lagerfeld, but Goddess is fresher and cleaner. Sweet and vanillic, it lingers long after the goddess has concluded her audience. Amber, moss, and sandalwood are merely decorative elements that do not make a named appearance in the finale. Good stuff for little money!

Goddess, a tribute to a diva!

Today, Goddess has finally arrived, and I quite like it! It has a slight touch of She by Armani, but also something of Desnuda by Ungaro; I think it’s this interplay of plum, cardamom, cinnamon, amber, and vanilla, etc. This similarity is mainly noticeable in the top note/heart note, that’s how I perceive it..

So, a perfume that is well dosed with all the above-mentioned ingredients, not too much, but also not too little :) I first detect spicy cardamom, and also plum, ripe plums. It then quickly transitions into a slightly floral bouquet, with jasmine being more prominent. However, this scent is clearly carried by the ingredients from the base note, such as amber, mossy notes, but subtly, sandalwood, and vanilla. This blend with the other ingredients creates a wonderful everyday scent that I would recommend more for the cooler season, but it can also shine during big appearances!!!
Furthermore, I also think that this scent has no "age restriction." It’s worth testing!!

Worthy of a Goddess?

Greta Garbo - beautiful, cool, legendary, divine! Whenever I hear or read her name, I always think of "Queen Christina" - my favorite film of hers. But also the Lady of the Camellias, Ninotchka and Anna Karenina, Mata Hari or Grand Hotel. Greta Garbo was undoubtedly an exceptional woman and an extraordinary actress.

Her fragrance was Tanglewood Bouquet by The Crown Perfumery. The inspiration for this 1920s scent came from Garbo herself. Unfortunately, I do not know what this perfume smells like, and it may be difficult to ascertain at all since The Crown Perfumery no longer exists.

So Grès has every freedom in the world to create a fragrance as a tribute to the divine Garbo. They did not stop at just one, but created three. One of them - Goddess - I had the pleasure of getting to know and test extensively thanks to Michelangela.

And what can I say? Goddess is wonderful, and I can imagine that even Greta Garbo would have liked it.

The opening is fresh and juicy, with cardamom and plum leaving no chance for the citrus note of mandarin. Wonderful!

In the heart, a good portion of sweetness comes in, and a very subtle and carefully dosed portion of cinnamon joins the jasmine. It does not smell spicy, but very soft and creamy. After an hour, sandalwood joins in and beautifully rounds off the creamy heart note.

The sillage is quite impressive; Goddess is easily perceivable as a very beautiful, elegant, and mature fragrance. The longevity is really good.

After about two hours, the base slowly starts to emerge. It is also very, very soft, and the sweetness clearly diminishes here. The base is distinctly characterized by amber and vanilla, with moss and sandalwood accentuating it but not dominating it.

Grès has not been a particularly interesting brand for me until now, but this fragrance is definitely something for me. The prices for these fragrances are - at least on the bay - quite moderate. Goddess has made me very curious, and I would love to know how the other two Greta Garbo tributes "Sphinx" and "Mythos" smell...
