There are days like this ...
There are days when I don't want to be sweet and nice, but rather appear confident and independent. Those are the Cabochard days. On such a day, I don't want to present myself with flowery and pleasing scents. I prefer the quirky and edgy note of Cabochard. Admittedly, such days don't happen very often, but when they do, it has to be this fragrance. With Cabochard, you don't aim to please others; you must first please yourself.

The scent starts for me with just a hint of lemon, which quickly hides behind scratchy herbs and only peeks out every now and then. The description "herbaceous spicy men's fragrance" probably fits quite well at this point. Slowly, the scratchy herbs recede, and the fragrance develops into something a bit more floral, without any sweetness or loveliness. In this quirky stage, it lingers on me for quite a while until a warmer, very beautiful undertone eventually emerges. Overall, it is a very green fragrance that is quite difficult for me to put into words, and therefore should be experienced firsthand.

If I were to associate this fragrance with a landscape, only the quirky, captivating rocky coast of Brittany comes to mind. Spectacular, sometimes quite rugged, often rainy, but absolutely worth seeing.

Lovely Scratching Brush
After reading the comments and statements, I ordered Cabochard. Blind. I love nostalgic scents, aldehydes, oakmoss, edges and corners, etc., and the creativity and courage of perfumers from past times. Cabochard was launched in 1959 and is thus older than I am. Presumably, this fragrance has also been reformulated, and unfortunately, I cannot say whether it smells different today than it did back then. Even if the current version has likely been toned down, it is worth taking a sniff... or two or three, provided you have a penchant for fragrances that do not conform to the mainstream.

Cabochard starts off with slightly soapy aldehydes, which march in a green-herbaceous direction with a subtle citrus undertone, something that is certainly not to everyone's taste. From today's perspective, this fragrance would probably be presented in the men's segment, or at least declared "unisex," even though it was marketed as a women's fragrance back then. It is definitely wearable for both ladies and gentlemen.

After a while, flowers join the green bitterness, of which I can only identify ylang-ylang, jasmine, and the powdery iris. However, they do not push themselves to the forefront and steal the show from the green; instead, they soften the bitterness. The scent becomes green-floral without becoming sweet or even lovely.

Gradually, Cabochard gains warmth, depth, and smoothness, as sandalwood, musk, and patchouli make their appearance. The oakmoss does not impart bitterness, and old, soft leather completes the impression of security, smoothing out edges and rounding things off to create harmony. Fortunately, I cannot perceive the dreaded coconut, at least not its scent; it certainly plays its part and is likely responsible for the creaminess I experience.

The longevity of at least 10 to 12 hours is also noteworthy, and anyone who does not yet know Cabochard and feels at home away from the beaten mainstream paths should not shy away from a test.

Pumuckel on Speed
Soon it will be my mother-in-law's birthday, and as a true spontaneous Aries lady, she needs a lively fragrance.

Cabochard came to my mind.

I wavered between the EDT and EDP - but the EDP feels a bit milder to me - although it is still not tame, but rather bubbling with temperament.

Full of spice, but charmingly softened by the soft rose and powdery iris.
The oak moss is herbaceous, but not bitter - and the milky coconut provides a quantum of snugness with the saucy tobacco.

The fragrance is by no means a cuddly kitten - but it is also not crabby.

The EDP does not want to clash - it wants to experience something.

It fits the character of my tireless mother-in-law.
Sitting still is not her forte.

She always has to get up, tug at the curtains, pick a rose in the garden, and by the way, oil the squeaky door.

Pumuckel on speed - her son likes to say - but all her actions are somehow endearing.

I like my mother-in-law Pumuckel.

This is a true scent beast....
...with incredible longevity and sillage. A nearly invisible drop from the stopper of the bottle (2ml) has the power of 5 full sprays of the "normal" EdP.
And it smells exactly like the big brother of the vintage. A concentrated load of herbaceous-green notes, paired with a medley of exclusive spices. Even the flowers that slowly appear over time seem to have been dipped in galbanum beforehand, so herbaceous and "delicious" they smell. Except for the rose, which adds a small splash of warm floral aroma.
This remains present throughout the entire fragrance progression, subtly in the background, but still quite noticeable.
After a long "wearing time" of the perfume, it really hits hard!!
Mossy leather on sandy patchouli, musky notes dipped in vetiver, subtly dusty tobacco notes of a cigar-smoking silent film diva,
With this "scent beast," the bear dances along with Rock'n'Roll dancing "Knights of the Round Table," to whom the wizard Merlin has just granted a wish.
A fragrance that knows (almost) no boundaries, especially not in terms of gender. Men and women (but please not under 30) because "Cabochard" perfume is an experienced, knowledgeable scent that (for me) requires a certain maturity.
Although it is a "scent beast," the perfume has no relation to an "animalic" scent.
Rather, it tends towards a "spicy-oriental" chypre, which has many plant-based components. Like an ancient, gnarled tree that has a wise, smiling, mischievous "face" in its bark....

Quickly enjoyed the old leather-aldehyde-wood hammer again before Cabochard possibly ruins the scent with the new version. I hope...

Who put that plain little bow on the bottle? Leather jacket instead of frilly blouse! It rocks, giving the gourmands the finger.

Cabochard strongly resembles Kouros, it's practically the women's version of it (see Pyramid). Strong, spicy, long-lasting scent!

Reference to the "scent high time". It doesn't get more robust, spicy, chypre, and powerful than this. Huge longevity & sillage! Not for delicate noses!

She just wants to play,
okay, with a clear edge,
you have to go through that

I bought Cabochard EdP because of all the praise. I just can't get along with it. Just soap, soap, and more soap. What a shame.

Unfortunately, it's not a scent twin of Bandit. The opening is promising, but then it becomes too jasmine-heavy for my taste.
