Ah yes,… I often rave about the brand Hermès and have therefore tested all sorts of fragrances in the past, but I have yet to try 24 Faubourg… what a shame! Especially since this fragrance is incredibly popular! This needs to be remedied quickly… ah yes, I can already hear you all sighing and saying, “Oh no! DonJuanDeCat has discovered this fragrance too and will definitely give his two cents on it!”
Yes! I will! So be quiet and just read. You can complain about me later :D
And don’t roll your eyes all the time!
24 Faubourg is, by the way, the address of the Hermès headquarters in Paris, which is why this fragrance is named after this address in the famous (and expensive) shopping arcade Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, similar to Chanel’s fragrance 31 Rue Cambon (… which teaches you that in French, house numbers are apparently mentioned first :D).
The Fragrance:
The fragrance starts off mainly floral, but fortunately not in a stuffy way, even though most of the floral notes here are heavy. Because despite the slightly sultry Ylang-Ylang, the fragrance does not smell overwhelming, which is probably due to the combination with the other fragrance notes. For example, you can still smell hyacinths, but above all, there is still neroli. For a short moment, you can even smell bergamot, but it quickly gets overshadowed by the other, heavier fragrance notes. When sprayed, you have the feeling that there are aldehydes in it, but that is just the somewhat mature impression of the fragrance, which is likely mainly caused by the Ylang-Ylang and the also heavy neroli. However, this mature and classically scented fragrance smells quite good and not at all like one would derogatorily say is “grandma-like.”
Later on, you mainly smell heavy neroli and floral notes (with Ylang-Ylang still in the foreground). All the other listed fragrance notes cannot really be distinguished, but their presence surely contributes to a more complex and beautiful fragrance structure. I think the iris, for example, gives the fragrance its soft, almost slightly powdery note, and the jasmine adds a non-overwhelming, yet noticeable sweetness. Later, or towards the end, the fragrance becomes softer and gentler, which is certainly due to the vanilla, which always makes fragrances nice and soft and also powdery. The sweetness is now a bit stronger, but still, the fragrance is not very sweet. Neroli and floral notes can still be smelled very well, and a little later, “a dollop” of earthy patchouli is added.
The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is strong, and you don’t have to get close to smell the fragrance on someone. It is also room-filling, leaving a long scent trail behind.
You can already guess that the longevity of this fragrance is really strong. It lasts easily a minimum of ten hours or so.
The Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular in shape but has inwardly pressed side surfaces, making it look like a coat of arms or a figure, and thus more aesthetically pleasing than “normal rectangular” bottles. Additionally, the bottle features a beautiful floral pattern, which makes it even more attractive. The neck is rectangular and gilded, and on top sits the also gilded cap, which is slightly hemispherical and resembles a lampshade. There is no label; instead, the fragrance name is elegantly written at the bottom edge of the bottle.
So, with that, this fragrance is also “checked off”! :D
I quite liked it, as it belongs to the well-crafted fragrances of the “mature” and classically styled types. Of course, one must like such a fragrance to enjoy it, as these scents do not suit everyone’s (anyone’s??) taste. Especially among younger people, it might seem a bit out of place, but that’s a matter of taste.
In any case, it is a very testable fragrance that has a somewhat autumnal feel and is especially suitable for special or evening occasions. If one wants to wear it during the day (for example, at work), one should definitely apply it sparingly, unless you want to fog up the entire office :D
Because even though it smells good, some might be bothered by the strength of the fragrance. And since, as mentioned, it is more suitable for autumn and winter, colleagues who are suffocating from the scent would open the windows and continue working, shivering and trembling in the icy air, but also cursing extremely :D
At least that’s what I think… :DD
So be careful!
