The EDT is better
Diptyque makes high-quality, elegant fragrances. Regrettably, most of the house's offerings leave a lot to be desired in terms of sillage, projection, and longevity. So, if you're deliberating between the eau de parfum and eau de toilette versions of a given Diptyque fragrance, a good rule of thumb is to opt for the EDP.

The only exception to this rule, in my view, lies in the case of Vetyverio. While Vetyverio EDT is fresh, bright, and tantalizing, its EDP sibling is dirty, musty, and borderline repulsive; it's the only Diptyque I've ever scrubbed off my skin. Perhaps this response owes to some olfactory idiosyncrasy of mine—your nose may very well relish the smell of putrid soil. But do yourself a favour and buy a decant of this perfume before splurging on a full bottle :) Or check out the EDT!

Strangely addictive anti mosquito candle into vetiver
I was so excited to try this out I beelined it for the Diptyque stand in the Nordstrom.

Both on the paper and my skin, this just smelt like an anti mosquito candle with citronella. It punched me back to my time in college when I cared for a Pelargonium citrosum plant, or citronella geranium, a gorgeous plant with a faint scent of lemon, whose essential oil alongside others of the lemongrass family is used to fight mosquitoes in candles or sprays.

This was unexpected, as I felt both repulsed and addicted to the smell on my wrist. I could not stop smelling and going to those summer nights with the candles on and watching the stars.
I was disappointed by the lack of vetiver and the emergence of the rose (which to me smells like Geranium, or perhaps the combination of rose and grapefruit which gives the illusion of geranium) in the heart of the fragrance, until at the very end, did vetiver appear in the dry down.

Now, the dry down is gorgeous. The vetiver with a hint of florals is great, but the opening and the first hour or two are a little off putting, although I could see myself loving this after a few more tests.

Performance wise, lasts from before lunch to midnight, is powerful, but not incredibly overpowering.

I think its a pretty safe scent, but not a safe blind buy if you expect vetiver.

Wasabi
At first, you get a strong wasabi scent. It's like the stinging feeling you get when you put wasabi in your mouth, and it makes you tear up. It also smells a bit like cypress. This is best when it's on paper. If you were to hand out a paper introducing this scent, most people would frown. It smells like burnt fallen leaves, and some people find the notes unpleasant. It's difficult to smell vetiver essential oil unless you have a good impression of it. I can understand why cockroaches run away.
But I love the combination of sweet scents and vetiver. Adding a little bitterness from vetiver makes the fruit or flower suddenly "three-dimensional" and more realistic. It wasn't until I was a lot older that I realized that adding wasabi to sushi tasted good, but I feel that there is something similar to that. It complements the bitterness of the grapefruit pulp and skin to make it more realistic. This is the same. The reproduction of the bitterness of biting into the grapefruit skin in the back is wonderful. (No fruit juice)
The EDT is a more precise version of ZARA's Bench Bar Pamplemousse, using good fragrances and allowing you to clearly see the contours of the ingredients. (ZARA's is a more conceptual grapefruit) The EDP is for those who want to taste more vetiver. There is no heavy musk or amber, so it is very light. It is also good for those who like not only vetiver but also the scent of shaved wood.
Whether you think this scent is beautiful or not depends a lot on your fragrance experience and preferences, so I recommend trying the sample first. It made me want to eat sushi. It may seem strange, but it reminded me of the smell of vinegared rice and a sushi restaurant. It has a great effect on nausea and stomach upset. I think people who find wasabi delicious will like it. Probably

Don’t be shy, apply!
This is a salient point in case of how it’s better to apply fragrance to get a rounded experience of it. From the atomizer is good, from a blotter’s good, but those aspects only allow you to experience a facet of a fragrance.

So, i say that to say: when i first purchased this (2018) i did so only after having worn it via a sample from Diptyque. I couldn’t get enough of the stuff. However, after having purchased it, i seldomly reached for it. Big reason being: i decide my sotd by sniffing the atomizer. Hence, my point.

Whenever i do wear this, i almost always kick myself for not using it more because it SMELLS SO GOOD on skin. Via atomizer it smells slightly dirty and kinda weird.

This is indeed unique. Done in a way only Diptyque can construct. The smell like section, in typical fashion—at least of the ones I’ve smelled—is straight cap. The only tie between them being a prominent vetiver note.

Anyways: unisex-male, any age above 20, casual, daytime, transitional weather and office appropriate… Good stuff.

NOTE: I’m going to stand on there being iris in this. Most notably in the drydown. Does anyone else get that??

Green and Blue - the Barrique Vetiver
A full-bodied peppery grapefruit greets AugustA's nose. Soon, a velvety green note joins in. Full, pulsating vetiver, fresh, woody, grassy, and earth and sky in one. So green and blue - in the best sense.
The rose adds a floral, almost fruity moment; it is deep dark red, but does not stand out decoratively or dominantly, certainly not soapy. It is large and velvety and carries shiny dark green leaves, which adds a serious, profound, and slightly sinful nuance to the scent profile. At the same time, the rose and vetiver come across as somewhat melancholic, which is skillfully balanced by the grapefruit with a cheerful laugh. The vibrant life, the scent has for me the body of a glass of red wine. Perhaps barrique.

The difference from the already great edt is that the edp is fuller and a bit smoky. It works better on me, although I usually also appreciate light and zesty fragrances very much. But the grapefruit in the edt, in combination with the vetiver, takes a turn towards sweat and sulfur on my skin, which I don't quite like. All the more beautiful that the much deeper-sounding edp does not do that and ultimately has a completely different vibe. So please: Try both versions!

Vetyverio put me off this house for years, and made me believe that I hate Vetiver - which is not true - until I met Timbuktu.

A crisp grapefruity citrus over a tangy vetiver with some very gentle spice. Linear but very refreshing and lasts well on my skin.

Wonderful, true to form, vetiver scent ala Guerlain Vetiver. Seems a bit pricey compared to the competition, but well worth it nonetheless.

A very soft and fresh green-woody Spring fragrance. A clean floral, thus rather feminine take on a vetiver-based fragrance. 100% unisex!

Extremely vetiver forward scent (not even a particularly quality vetiver) with slight floral undertones. I don't really get any grapefruit.

Citrus, woody green, strong and fresh vetiver scent. Quite unique due to it’s focus on the earthy green vetiver. Reminds me of lush jungles.

To my nose, this smells like a public swimming pool mixed with grapefruit and rose. Not a fan of this one.

Choice of Halloween: more herbal than the EdT, earthy, nutty, dark, grave-like, noble, cool! My recommendation: Still celebrate Reformation Day!

A candidate for the wish list: Herb and yet soft, full, refined by an almost black rose, it gets even more beautiful on the skin.
