Sleeping pulse at night
I'm not sure about marketing, but we are close to Bradycardia here, slow heart rate, relax and go sleep. Remember no party!

The opening is very green, you can feel like late autumn when people do last garden cleanup. The weather is still warm, a bit of sun, and dry dry grass and weeds. It is like green vegetables with a bit of smoke.

Once it dries down, it gets sweeter and sweeter, with hints of vanilla and woody notes. I like how it develops, however, projection is very limited, it is very shy. You might be fooled if based on the name you are looking for some fragrance for a night out in the city. It is more calm, relaxing, a bit hidden away evening home scent.

Good for winters night with a book on your side

Good, but a bit synthetic
Another hyped fragrance. This one got a lot of attention and it is quite good. Incensy, vanilla, spicey, woody, a bit dark. The longevity is good and the sillage is not extreme.

As a lot of Issey Miyake fragrances it is quite synthetic to my nose and a bit harsh in the beginning. It's nice, but I don't think I'll keep it. Life's too short for mediocre fragrances. :) But if you are on a budget, this is a good one for fall and winter.

Issey’s Renaissance
In the early 2000s on a biz trip to Jersey, I first smelled L’eau d’Issey. When I got back from the trip, I absolutely had to get that frag and drove about an hour and 15 minute to the nearest Macy’s that carrier it as our more local one didn’t carry it. For years it was my most used fragrance, as close to a signature as I’ve had. Over the years I had a couple dozen deep rotation until I came into the motherload fragrance deal of a lifetime. I had no idea what had been going on in fragrance in the 15 or so years I hadn’t a need to purchase any new fragrances. Heck up to that point, I thought fashion designers were the be all end all of fragrance. That the designers were bored on weekends and figured “eh what hell, may as well make a few fragrances in addition to my clothes” considering my fragrance purchasing ended around the time the internet really took off and there was info out there since about the notion it’s a whole industry unto itself.

Anyhow, I digress… let’s get back on track. That massive fragrance purchase, or rather a few purchases I made. Wow did that result in my jaw dropping to see some of what came after the original Issey pour Homme. Suffice to say my nose has experienced several hundred fragrances now whereas prior to those purchases, my nose had only been exposed to those I had, some friends or family had through the years, and some testing at a local Macy’s prior to its closing and that location had a pretty small selection in the whole scheme of things. Issey is, and I assume will remain one of my absolute favorite houses. I can’t foresee a day where I’ll actually add fragrances to my collection unless I were to sell off quite a bit. However, with the Issey line continuing beyond Issey having passed, were they to introduce some new fragrances like Pulse of the Night, Polaris, Bois Artic, Noir Ambre, Or Encens, and I were financially able to add frags with ease, I’m not sure I could stop myself. Now that I’ve had quite a bit of mileage on my fragrance journey, I can say with certainty, Issey Miyake is one of my fave designer frag houses, along with Dior, Mugler, Prada, JPG, Guerlain, and Gucci. Especially their aforementioned deeper, denser blends. While Issey may be better known for the freshies given the original and many flankers over the years, they just did something correctly with those denser scents that are spectacular. One regret is passing over Noir Argent and missing out on one of the several bottles my frag dealer had.

I don’t have much in the way of nights out these days, but if I did, this would be a go to in cooler to cold weather… as would any of their darker scents. To my nose, this is special among designers, I suppose “nichey” as some may describe remarkable designer releases. At the same time, I’d imagine this being a compliment beast, a bonafide crowd pleaser. Though striking me as one that would be a compliment beast, I don’t view this as beast mode projector, but maybe a tad above average. Longevity, on my skin, though, this is a beast and lasts a good 10+ hours.

The scent itself is absolutely delicious to my nose. At first spray, I get a spicy, incense, and vanilla mix that is just intoxicating. Although pretty dominant at first spray, this is quite masculine leaning as one may expect as it’s marketed as a frag for men. After 15 or 20 minutes the spices calm and the sweetness is enhanced by tonka, and a dusty woodiness comes into play from the cedar, with a depth added from the patchouli and resinous Labdanum. About 40 or so minutes in, the journey seems to get into the dry down. My nose begins to get a more prominent aspect of the vanilla, mixed with some of the leathery density coming into play, along with enhanced woodiness from the Vetiver, and a smoothness I’m guessing coming from the sandalwood.

For a designer selection, this is marvelous and I’m delighted I had the opportunity to get this one before the supply dried up and it was seemingly only available for astronomical prices on eBay. That being said, were I a fraghead with a lot of disposable income, I may view this as worth the asking price on eBay. At times, I’ll admit, I’ve pondered whether I’d want to part with this. Considering only wearing a few times, the bottle is about 98% full and with the price I got this for, I could probably sell the bottle for a 10x return, but this is just too good and I can’t bring myself to let it go. To my nose, it’s just that darn good.

Dreamy Unisex Composition
This was my birthday gift. :) Smoky-sweet vanilla with plenty of amber, tonka, patchouli, wood, and velvety leather. A beautifully sweet-romantic, enchanting, and soul-soothing UNISEX composition. And the most fascinating thing about the fragrance is that it evolves and evolves and evolves... The sweetness fluctuates, the woods come and go and come back, the patchouli is sometimes darker and dirtier, sometimes purer, and the amber strongly resembles Noir Ambré. And for the ubiquitous flanker haters: It is not a flanker. It is a fragrance in its own right and incomparable to anything else from Miyake. Amen.

The brand Issey Miyake often doesn't receive much attention. The house is neither truly mainstream nor truly niche. Nevertheless, every release is, in some way, creative perfume craftsmanship for me, depending on how you look at it.
Independent, innovative, even if they don't reinvent the wheel, they often bring a twist to their fragrances that hardly anyone has done before.
For this courage, for this risk, one doesn't always receive compliments. I couldn't buy or test this fragrance anywhere in Hamburg. The brand is obviously doing so poorly that the Alsterhaus has completely kicked Issey Miyake out. In other perfumeries, you can find, if at all, only older releases. Unthinkable compared to mainstream fragrances. The good thing about Issey, with all its strange complicated names, is that no one buys them, making them somewhat unique and often landing in the sale :)

So, blind buy! In America, there was a small hype in the fragrance scene. Some influencers declared it the best release of the year, best winter scent, which led to the fragrance being sold out there (it may not have been produced or stocked often...).
So I was curious, as an Issey Miyake fan anyway.

About the scent:
Pulse of the Night forgoes a mainstream top note, especially in a time when everything smells of bergamot, grapefruit, etc.
It starts balsamic sweet with the amber and subtly beautifully blended mist. First impression: shy, quiet but with a lot of depth. Definitely niche quality. You rather feel like you're smelling an opulent drydown, partly because it's so wonderfully blended, and partly because nothing fruity stands out in the top notes, great. Right away, a thick drydown feeling. Super! But it's not beast mode either. The vanilla comes out beautifully. Together with the amber, and now I’m just checking out this masterpiece. After 5 minutes, the smoke fades a bit and the woods begin to pulse. Associations with Spicebomb Extreme are given, also slightly powdery.
Think of typical Bois perfumes because of the vetiver, which also comes off soapy, but somehow you keep coming back to the patchouli and vanilla; there's a lot happening. Almost like a film or a song that changes. If you want to spray good entertainment on your arm, it's really interesting how it develops and transforms.
It is said to have notes of Dior Bois d'Argent, which I don't know due to the price; others compare it to Parfums de Marly Herod or Oajan, of which I have only smelled the latter in a store and can't recall it exactly.

Winter fragrance
Above-average performance
Anyone who likes Spicebomb Extreme will also find this one great.

In the opening, you get the spices and the incense that will remain in the drydown. Then you also get amber, sandalwood, vanilla and leather

Mix between Noir Argent and Herod. Starts of sweet and playful and dries down dry powdery. Nice winter scent and awesome for the price

I don't see any resemblance to Herod. This is just my opinion, your experience with this fragrances might be different.

It's very similar to Herod but with some specific harsh smoky note I personally found repulsive.

So Nuit D'Issey, but really lower the incense, and add big tonka/vanilla. I see why this is popular. I miss the citrus/smoke punch of the original.

The first Miyake that captivates me. Incense-dark vanilla, spices, noble woods & tonka for sweetness (bearable). Warm*sensual*sexy.
