Cucumber Water
After I have already reviewed the first three Jaques Battini fragrances from my "purchase action," I would now like to turn to the last fragrance of my test:
I am amazed that I have liked all the Jaques Battini fragrances I have tested so far. Considering that they only cost around €15 at "regular price," one might really think that for this price, you would end up with a generic drugstore scent. Well, for the truly "cheap" drugstore fragrances, €15 is already on the higher side. But compared to all the trendy "mainstream fragrances" with pop or celebrity endorsements (not all of them are bad, of course), the fragrances from Jaques Battini are well recommended in terms of price-performance ratio.
"Magic" starts off more green than fruity, with a slightly fruity scent lingering in the background. And then comes the... cucumber. Oh, wasn't there supposed to be melon? Are cucumbers and melons related?
As teenagers, we always went to Holland with a group to celebrate New Year's Eve. And if you didn't want to get wasted on Grolsch and Bessen Genever and (like I did back then) didn't like orange soda, Seven Up was one of the few non-alcoholic drinks left. And during the enjoyment of that drink back then, the question came up: "Doesn't it taste like cucumber?" And that's how we came to the name "cucumber water," which we still use today. When I tried cucumber water again last year, I couldn't really relate to that anymore - maybe a reformulation of Seven Up? Who knows...
Back to "Magic": For a while, a very lightly fruity scent with little floral notes remains on the skin; I couldn't name any component individually. The cucumber/melon creates an aquatic scent that lingers for a long time. Anyone who enjoys green and simultaneously aquatic fragrances should test "Magic" themselves; it might be a hidden gem for little money. I myself am not a fan of such scents (I only own "Eau Mega" by Viktor & Rolf in this direction, which also smells like cucumber but includes pear among other notes...) and wouldn't really need the fragrance urgently, but since it is now in my possession and smells good on me, I will certainly use it occasionally in the summer.
In conclusion, I can only emphasize once again that one should try the Jaques Battini fragrances when encountering them in a drugstore (there seem to be new fragrances again...) to form one's own opinion and to happily leave home with an affordable fragrance...
