Soon our apprentice will finish work, today he gets to leave early.
In his nose lingers the comforting, creamy scent of the vanilla cream
that he was allowed to prepare for the head pastry chef for further processing.
But now quickly, off with the apron and home.
Today is a special day, he has invited friends over
and promised them a treat they won't forget anytime soon,
after all, he didn't endure two years with his strict master for nothing.
And there's also that girl with the bluest eyes he has ever seen, yes, she will come too, she promised.
Arriving home, he puts the almonds in the oven to roast, he takes them out golden yellow,
chops them up, adds egg whites, dissolves sugar and honey in the pan, and mixes it all with the almond paste.
It smells delicious, full of anticipation for the delighted faces, he pours the mixture into a mold... Oh no, he made too little and the mold is only half full, at home the equipment is simply much smaller than at work. Now he has to hurry.
So, more almonds in the oven.
His phone rings, oh God, it’s the girl with the blue eyes, she’s not going to cancel, is she?
Phew, she’s coming. A burnt smell pulls him out of his thoughts, he rushes to the oven, it’s too late, smoke is already seeping out of the oven door and the almonds are black.
"What am I going to do?" he thinks out loud, "This will never be enough for everyone. I shouldn’t have bitten off more than I can chew."
While frantically looking through the kitchen cabinets, unfortunately, the almonds are all gone, he discovers milk, cream, vanilla pod, eggs, and sugar.
Then he has a brilliant idea, the others will get a crème brûlée and the girl with the blue eyes will get almond nougat...
The scent starts with a very fine creamy vanilla note,
which is followed by a beautiful almost frothy almond note,
but then it smells, due to the oud I think, really quite
burnt, on one hand this prevents the almonds from becoming too sweet and sticky,
on the other hand, I find this note quite overpowering.
In the end, a vanilla, sweetish residue remains.
I had to test it multiple times, I’m not one of those sweet-toothed people, so this scent promised to make me more inclined towards the unsweetened side of all the loukhoum fragrances in this line.
However, I’m also not an oud fan, oud is usually too prominent for me. But since this was the only counterpoint to the sweetness, I experimented with the dosage.
At a normal dose (4 sprays, each on the right and left wrist and neck), the burnt aspect felt too strong for me.
With a subtle dosage (2 small sprays on a cotton pad and then distributed from there), the vanilla/sweet aspect became too much for me.
Maybe I would have preferred it more with patchouli, because this scent is certainly fascinating.
The longevity is very good.
As a wearing recommendation, I would suggest autumn or winter, preferably in the evening. The dosage should be cautious.
It is also quite wearable by men.
