Sweet and luscious peppery floral

Jean-Louis Scherrer fragrances are not very common here in Australia, so when I stumbled across this fragrance in an exclusive boutique, I was intrigued to see what his fragrances were like.

S de Scherrer is very unique, but pleasant and pretty at the same time. I'm not usually a fan of chypres, however in this case, S de Scherrer has encouraged me to try more.

The fragrance opens quite strongly. To my nose it's mostly a peppery-floral scent with a slight touch of sweetness. The overall quality of the scent, especially when worn on the skin, is quite creamy and warm.

In lots of ways, S de Scherrer is a seductive fragrance. From the very first sniff, the scent is absolutely captivating. It's rather a shame that this fragrance hasn't become that well-known.

The drydown is beautiful. Rich, powdery vanilla on an earthy patchouli base. This blend rounds the scent off nicely.

The bottle design is a litte odd, but certainly likable. However, I don't think it matches the scent very well. S de Scherrer needs an elegant, minimalistic bottle, somewhat similar to the Chanel bottles.

The lasting strength of S de Scherrer is fabulous. The scent also maintains the same amount of sillage from the beginning until the end. It's quite hard to put this beautiful fragrance into words, so I suggest that anyone who feels like this might be the fragrance for them, should get out there and test it as soon as possible.

Tiaré at its best

The incredibly beautiful opening of this fragrance deserves a mention, and since there is no comment here yet, I will now dedicate one to this special scent:
The top note presents Tiaré in what I consider to be the optimal setting; it is the most beautiful Tiaré arrangement I have ever smelled: Naturally graceful bergamot gives the otherwise often dense and cloying flower the necessary fresh lightness. A slightly fruity note, supposedly pear, connects the citrus note with the Tiaré scent, leaving me standing with my mouth open: Wow! I did not expect that!
But soon the mouth closes and the forehead begins to slightly furrow: Oh, how unfortunate, the beautiful, slightly tart citrus fruit is gone so quickly, leaving behind - well, still an exquisite Tiaré flower, but now without the Wow effect.

My inner image is no longer so bright; I am no longer swimming in wonderfully fresh, pleasantly cool water under a clear blue sky on a lush, unspoiled South Sea beach. I have stepped out of the water and, due to the heat, I sense that as soon as I am dry, it will become too warm for me, the climate will feel a bit stuffy. The blue sky is still there, the beach and the wonderful vegetation too, but there is nothing left that refreshes or cools. Stillness.

Indeed, my suspicion is confirmed: As time goes on, I miss a bit of lightness and the citrus note, while the density of the fragrance increases. Part of this is typical for Tiaré, another part seems to be the beginning of musk. Now I also notice a sharpness that I hadn’t noticed before. Spontaneously, I would almost think it is a hint of jasmine. Could that be the pepper? I am uncertain; until now, I have only perceived pepper in fragrances as a slight sprightliness and a brief, welcome, bright-spicy note. Why should it be different here? Are there such sharp lily of the valley? Fortunately, this note disappears after about half an hour.
I still find that it is really well-arranged Tiaré: clearly Tiaré, but not like other Tiaré fragrances that knock you out and take half the surroundings with them.
I also find the musk used here to be okay. It reminds me of the musk from Legend/Montblanc. But I would have preferred it if musk had not been used, as it intensifies in my nose the density that Tiaré itself already brings.

This sounds quite grumpy now, but that’s how it goes when the top note plunges you into bliss; afterwards, you can only come down from the high or even crash.

But S de Scherrer Femme does not crash at all. For hours, it remains a beautiful, not overwhelming, warm, slightly sweet South Sea scent that I still like.
Even in the base, it changes hardly at all in my opinion, although a bit of vanilla becomes quite noticeable. As so often, it is musk that remains strongly perceptible alongside Tiaré, while the other notes appear relatively pale behind it.

So I enjoy a friendly South Sea flair for at least 6 hours until it gradually weakens and eventually fades gently.

Perhaps S de Scherrer Femme will affect me differently in the summer. But I didn’t want to wait any longer with the comment.
And now I am looking in my collection for a citrusy mono fragrance without musk....for layering.
