The Sultan Awaits
This fragrance by Scherrer is a find from a so-called "flea market shop." There, a lady has set up a true collection of perfume bottles and offers, among other things, perfumes that are older and no longer produced in this form today. This included "Indien Nights" or "Nuits de Indienne" (both are written on the green packaging with the golden speckles). Mine is from 1993. Full-bodied, oriental, powdery, sweet yet bitter, and a bit animalistic. Thanks to the well-measured civet... When I sniff this Eau de Parfum, I am somehow strongly reminded of a sultan's palace with fragrant harem ladies, as often described in many old tales from 1001 Nights. An inviting, foreign ambiance draped with many tapestries and colorful fabrics. There is a rich but good-natured sultan who enjoys having beautiful ladies around him, and sometimes rewards them with lovely scents for their services, treating them to splendid baths, like those Cleopatra might have taken in even earlier times. Moreover, the good sultan has a huge garden where all sorts of oriental spices and balsamic woods thrive, which he and his ladies tend to lovingly. And it smells... strong and of all kinds of flowers. Roses... lilacs... jasmine... and many more. The large cedars help the blossoms with their fine woody scent, while vanilla rounds everything off. And the hint of civet promotes a very intimate impression. The sultan and his ladies are already looking forward to... in the evening... at night.... "Nuits de Indienne" is a beautiful fragrance, perhaps for going out..., but I wear it only rarely because it is simply a bit too "heavy" for my nose, and I am not the type for such "full-bodied orientals." It certainly suits other women better than me.

India's nights are long ...
... and so is this fragrance. Unfortunately, India's nights don't smell as good as the night from the bottle.
I am a bit surprised that such a fantastic scent, and I mean that literally, has received just one comment. From a man. Hm. But well, I sometimes wear fragrances from Harley Davidson too.

After a long time, I dug it out again; the spray function is weak, and only with persistent poking using a needle can I coax two thin sprays from this good piece, but that's more than enough!

The top note is hardly noticeable - which might be attributed to the age of the bottle, but is more likely due to the indescribably dominant heart and base notes that completely overpower the synthetic fruit salad and sweep it off the bed with great enthusiasm, spreading themselves lavishly and abundantly.

The sweet companions from the vanilla-tonka-heliotrope front are well perceptible, but the woods, especially the beloved balsamic-woody cedar, keep them perfectly in check, and even the jasmine does not break through too strongly. Nothing seems excessive, nothing is yucky but rather a skillful composition, and definitely worth keeping an eye out for this oldie for a longer and more intense time - it can easily hold its own against many, or rather all, new releases.

It is intense, sweet-heavy and heavy-sweet, refined and quirky, and not a common people's scent.

And I never have and never will have an elegant wardrobe (sorry to the celebrities :-)) - and I wear it with pleasure and delight with no-name jeans, a T-shirt, and the fragrance has never held it against me - quite the opposite.

Of Nuttendiesel and Street Waters
Please don’t get me wrong, I really liked this Scherrer a lot and I had it for 100 ml (using it took forever, as two sprays could put a medium-sized town into a coma).

Whenever I wore it on Indian nights out, comments poured in. Many were very positive, but one from our clique hated this scent like the devil hates holy water and always referred to this perfume as "Nuttendiesel" or "Strichgewässer." I coyly countered that only courtesans could afford such a noble perfume, and if prostitutes used this scent, their street must be particularly lucrative. Now that I think about it, we were never very close friends, I wonder why?

But now to the defense of this Oriental!

The opening was restrainedly aldehydic and was heavily dominated by ripe peaches. The only freshness was perhaps the evaporation of the alcohol!

The heart note was a hammer floral accord with a monster presence. Although I have always liked to apply a bit more, I held back here, as I always felt a bit lightheaded after three sprays.

The base was irresistibly erotic, richly sweet, and tickled just a little.

The sillage and longevity were legendary.

Nuits Indienne actually came to market a few years too late. The shift from heavy scents to fresh and clean was already in full swing, and Eternity was the benchmark.

Scherrer 1 and 2 have been rediscovered. Will Nuits Indiennes follow?

By the way, this scent is by no means suitable for standing on the street at night in fishnet stockings, platform shoes, and faux fur jackets hoping for a quick euro!

The wearer must bring confidence and elegant attire to do justice to this wonderful scent. If one wants to associate it with prostitution, then please in the highest category!

Very powdery multifloral scent with lilac at the center: sweet, lush, the fruity notes are barely noticeable, just a hint of citrus: good.

A powdery lilac bouquet with a rich floral-oriental base, luckily for me, little fruit, no animal notes, which I used to love!

You search here, you search there, and then a spritz, and you realize that what you were looking for is actually already at home. My favorite Scherrer.

A Euro-floriental that felt too lush and heavy for me back then. Today, I would definitely enjoy a drop... on special evenings.

Wow... Ripe fruits, lush flowers, and a hint of sweetness that almost reminds me of marzipan. A grand presence and beautiful.
