The new 2021 Sun Men perfume in dark orange! Square, practical, good!

Before I start, I want to say: Be careful - it looks very similar to the old Sun Men by Jil Sander! Even the packaging is strikingly alike. However, the difference is noticeable, among other things, in the color (the new one is dark orange, the old one is yellow) - and definitely in the scent.

I was looking for a good summer fragrance that is not "Eau de Toilette," smells fresh, and is affordable. That's when I stumbled upon this new scent from 2021.

The scent:

It smells sweet, almost powdery, and reminds me a bit of Prada Intense. It is distinctly different from its predecessor. Personally, I really like the scent - it reminds me of summer and sunshine.

The sillage:

I tested it on test strips; I also had Joop Absolute and Prada Intense with me. Prada and the new Jil Sander lasted the longest, followed by Joop. To be honest, I was surprised that it held up so long on the test strip and remained so intense - even though I only tested and compared the strips for 1-2 hours. On clothing, the longevity seems to be a bit weaker, but maybe that’s also because I no longer perceive it after a certain time. All in all, I am satisfied.

The bottle:

Fortunately, it is flat and square, so it fits well in a jacket pocket, handbag, etc. - finally something you can carry like a credit card.

Price-performance:

So far, I don't know of any fragrance that is cheaper and suits summer as well as the new Jil Sander 2021.

Easy grab

So so, Jil Sander Sun Men... THE designer drugstore scent par excellence.
Is that bad? Nope!

Sun Men Edt, the classic, you can only like it. The Eau de Parfum, in my eyes, is a rather insignificant flanker of this line.
But Sun Men Parfum, that has something!
The Sun Men original DNA is recognizable, just a bit spicier, creamier, and above all, longer-lasting.
Very pleasing, very creamy, slightly woody, with a very subtle pepperiness. The drydown is absolutely linear & without surprises.
Where the EdT runs out of steam, the parfum keeps performing tirelessly.
Sprayed on the arm the day before at noon, the scent is still clearly detectable the next morning. (At least on my skin)

Personally, this Sun Men DNA always puts me in a good mood, always!
Associations like sunscreen, vacation, carefree moments, the warm breeze in the evening, etc. come to mind.

For the price (about €32 for 75ml), absolutely a no-brainer!
For my nose, this scent works all year round.
Clean enough for summer, spicy enough for autumn/winter.

Surprising Experience: There it is, the Dropper

I have all the prominent AAA fragrances in stock, but honestly, none of the perfumes have really blown me away so far. The scents I like, or those I want to present to the world, are extremely weak. And with the fragrances that pack a punch, you end up smelling more like a candied polecat. A 6h BDC would be kind of cool. I have considered all the scent descriptions with some 6-8h lure power to be more like "urban legends." I was proven wrong.

Among the few selected favorites, Sun Men EdT is always on my list. I think it's really great. A good mix of sweet and fresh with a metallic touch. Luxury sunscreen. And since the packs with the additional shower gel are now available everywhere for 20 bucks, you can afford to apply a bit more. But here lies the catch - it is indeed EdT. Ideally, you have to carry the bottle around.
So, I sniffed the perfume variant at the perfume store. I must say, it was not love at first sight. Thoughts of veterans like Lagerfeld Classic or Ultramale came to mind. But it has nothing to do with the EdT. So I packed the usual reliable "you can't go wrong" EdT again. Three hours later at home, my girlfriend walked into the room and asked if it was me who smelled so good. I had to search for the spot on my arm where I had tested it. But it was confirmed: it smells good, and the test spray is also suitable as a room spray. So I promptly got the perfume and gave it a full dose the next day (at 6:00 AM). By noon, my colleague commented that I smelled really good today. That’s when I noticed - yes, this stuff is still going strong. In the evening, my girlfriend came to sniff again. That has never happened before. And as a cherry on top, I received a compliment today from the hairdresser in the shopping center, who usually spends the whole day in various scent clouds. I must say that I might not be the type who usually receives compliments. And my girlfriend has never reacted positively to any fragrances before. She usually complained when I made a wrong choice. Even if it might not completely match my taste, it seems to be well-received by women. I never thought I would get several compliments in such a short time. I actually found a scent that lasts all day and is well-liked. That’s worth a review for me. But nothing has dropped yet; my headline was initially clickbait. However, the Sun Men perfume has definitely taken the right direction.

Super price-performance ratio!

I bought this perfume "blind" because it was on sale and I had heard a lot of good things about the Eau de Toilette. I thought to myself that the perfume couldn't be much worse. At €20 for 40ml, the risk of a bad purchase was manageable for me.

And what can I say? In hindsight, I regret not buying the 100ml right away! Just today, I've received compliments about the scent twice (unsolicited).
Right after spraying, it starts off fresh-fruity with a pleasant sweetness. After about an hour, the scent develops more towards spicy, woody, and leathery.

After about four hours, I refresh it during my lunch break, then the sillage particularly starts to fade slowly. But at this price, that's perfectly fine.

All in all, I am very satisfied with the purchase and will definitely get the scent again for spring and summer when the bottle is empty. By the way, it fits well in the hand and fits in any bag.

A Cheapie That Men Should Take a Closer Look At

Today, the Sun Men Parfum has made its way into my humble collection, after I had sprayed it a few times in various stores in the past. I have always liked it, but each time I thought I would rather reach for something else. However, it definitely does not have to hide behind other designer fragrances.

The Sun Men Parfum starts off very fruity right after spraying. You can immediately smell the juniper berry, although to be honest, it also smells quite a bit like orange. At the beginning, it is quite sweet, but just sweet enough to be pleasant. The intensity of the sweet-fruity opening soon fades, leaving a nice spicy and woody scent with a pleasant powderiness/creaminess and a hint of leather. The fruity sweetness only plays a supporting role in the background and adds a summery touch to the fragrance.

When I sniff it on the back of my hand, the scent also somehow always reminds me of "Le Mâle Elixir | Jean Paul Gaultier," just a bit lighter. Probably because of the benzoin listed in the fragrance notes. There are indeed similarities in the creamy drydown, although the two fragrances are certainly not comparable. I also detect similarities to 1 Million Parfum or "1 Million Elixir | Rabanne."

Overall, I think you get a really well-made fragrance here for relatively little money.

The Sun DNA is clearly recognizable. Here it's a bit darker & fuller than its predecessors. The juniper berry is a bit too sharp for me, but still okay.
