Berlin, Berlin, we beam to Berlin
"Berlin by Joop is a legend. Not as big as the fragrance deserves, but it is a sorely missed legend. Nationally and internationally. Almost the ladies' equivalent of "Relax". And at the same time (despite great tuberose tableau) not even as "damig" as one might think.

"Berlin" is a powdery tuberose sunshine, which simply makes mood. And to which there are actually no alternatives to this day. A world city fragrance. Elegant, thick, a little dirty. Full of character, full of kick. That presses in the nose, that has mass and class. Too heavy for summer, surprisingly fluffy and un-sweaty for a tuberose nonetheless. Gourmand bass, a Brandenburg Gate of clove vanilla. A fragrance that speaks volumes and has tradition. Love Parade still without a shadow. 90s with thick ovaries. A boost from Berlin, a boom from the capital. It survives the time in the hearts of many people, to whom it came under the nose then as now. Impeccable. Legendary as said rather. Mushy fruit chypre with edge and warmth. The bosom of the homeland.

Flacon: simple Joop, but somehow iconic
Sillage: potent, but no Übertuberose
Durability: 10 hours - Made In Germany

Conclusion: perhaps the best, powderiest tuberose that ever disappeared from the mainstream market. An absolute waste!

A piece of history
Joop Berlin was one of those fragrances that came onto the market around the time of reunification. Back then, Germany was full of euphoria - the welcome money flowed, perfumeries sprang up like mushrooms even in the new federal states, great fragrances were also born under the German flag. I already had a lot of interest in perfumes, but I was still too young (and stupid!) to realize that these Joops, Bogners and Jil Sanders were also great. For me, France was Mecca when it came to high-quality fragrance creations. Berlin was actually a Mercedes among many Renaults and Citröens...well, Guerlain, Rochas, Dior and so have also created fantastic scents in this era, but Berlin, as well as the other Joop stroke of genius Nuit d'Èté, were world class. Only now, when they are rare and if still intact, comparatively expensive compared to back then, has it all become clear to me. Lightning flags, but honestly.
Berlin is a unique scent, none resembles it. The composition is typical of the 90s, a little noisy, but still noble and suitable as a daily fragrance. Easy to overdose as it is a power house, long lasting and of high value. The notes are so ingenious and interwoven that they can hardly be unravelled. A light, oriental sweetness on a bed of fruity hints, a few flowers scattered here and there and fine sandalwood in the base. Sounds boring? Not at all. He has that certain touch. In some places I suggest an echo of Femme by Rochas, but then again subliminally the good old Chloé, or Ysatis by Givenchy. It is not really like any of them, but still has the best of them all.
Perfect. Perfect.
Masterpiece.
Thanks to the lovely Parfumo, who reunited us both, Berlin and me.

'You peoples of the world, smell this city!
In the 90s, Berlin was said to be the most exciting city in the world. A city in a state of sudden awakening, where anything was possible, anything could happen and anything did happen. Wolfgang Joop has always felt an affinity with it, so it can be no coincidence that he named a perfume after 'his' Berlin immediately after reunification. Although today it is hard to understand why he decided to compose this perfume exactly as he did.

What does a city smell like, what does Berlin smell like? Like the blossoming lime trees along the famous boulevard in Mitte named after them? Certainly, yes. Like the vomit on Kotti later sung about by Peter Fox? That too, actually. After the hookers on Oranienburger, the cars on Avus, the chai latte on Kastanienallee (which didn't even exist in 1990)? That's also true. Or after bright garden flowers and ripe fruit, as Wolfgang Joop found it in 1990?
Joop's Berlin is a fragrance that was considered the highly contemporary essence of the then still young 90s. It has an irresistible radiance and a glow, is full of confidence and optimism, and conveys the outbreak and awakening of the Berlin attitude to life at that time. Despite its many ingredients and their multi-layered orchestration, it seems almost clean and full of that effortless elegance and light-footed cosmopolitanism that simply worked well in 1990.

Berlin is a youthful fragrance, it has the casualness and coolness that were to characterize and define the perfumery of the 90s. It transcends the conventional, established scent that the 80s would have made of stone fruit, carnation and white flowers, interpreting them in a fresh and exciting way - and yet only in nuances. It is the freedom and the brightness, it is this glow that defines it - sweet but not cloying, self-confident but not overwhelming - and unheard of at the time.

Conclusion: "You people of the world, look at this city!" is Ernst Reuter's most famous quote - in front of 350,000 Berliners who came to hear him in 1948. 'And smell it!' one would like to add. Because Joop's Berlin smells of light and sun, the expanse over Tempelhofer Feld, the meadows along the Havel, Dahme, Panke and Spree rivers, the bohemian atmosphere at Tacheles, the glitter of the TV tower at night. And very much after 1990 - wistfully beautiful, but over.

Fuck women's scent.....her with the swill; flashback to the first own place
Although Joop Berlin is or was a women's fragrance, I loved it so much that I wore it. I agree with Turandot, also for my nose the top scent of Uncle Jöpchen. ;-)

Mega recognition value and wearable at any occasion and season.

It may sound trivial, but this shrill yellow bottle or the content made me totally curious. I couldn't help myself and had to sniff around.....ingeniously in my nose.

It's a pity it doesn't exist anymore

A wonderful fragrance that could have lasted better on my skin
I was very excited to try Berlin Eau de Toilette because I had already heard that I might like it. I simply love fragrances from this period with vanilla in the base, see Woman No. 1. In the end, I am very taken with the scent. Unfortunately, the longevity of around 5 hours leaves a lot to be desired. The sillage is still pretty good at the beginning, but then diminishes noticeably after 2-3 hours.

The top note starts off green and citrusy with bergamot. This is followed by a great fruity note thanks to peach and plum - a combination that I often find rather horrible, but here it is a total success. The heart note offers a beautiful and delicately soapy sea of flowers consisting of tuberose, ylang-ylang, jasmine blossom, garden carnations, iris, violet, lily of the valley and rose. The base is beautiful and just perfect for me. It smells sweet, vanilla, powdery, caramel and creamy. I recognize benzoin, amber, tonka bean as well as cedar and sandalwood with a subtle balsamic quality.

Fortunately for me, I have more miniatures of this wonderful fragrance in my collection. I hope that there is also a mini in there that shines even more in performance.

I put on a healthy dollop of it just now and realize it’s a close sibling of Courreges in Blue!
