The dark is coming and brings with it an elegant mystery!
Joop Homme Absolute has been a pleasant discovery in the last period. It is a modern perfume, a spiced Tonka Beans, with a touch of white pepper and a whiff of dark incense. It is not a complicated perfume or particularly elaborate. It is a perfume that makes its simplicity its strong point. Few notes on my nose, but well mixed together. A pleasant scent, balanced between light and darkness. It is best expressed in the cold season. A metropolitan and cosmopolitan perfume suitable for both sexes. A good price for a great result! Maybe a little underestimated ...So elegant in its gothic dance!

Here comes a JOOP!
Considering the perfumery missteps that followed Nightflight under the JOOP! brand, which can only be understood as the cheapest pandering to the audience, a perfume has finally hit the market that does NOT join the endless series of currently trendy aqua-intense-black-night-summer-invictus-olympea-cotton candy-ozone-amber xtreme trivialities. Well, one should definitely not be misled by the name; it is as grotesque as it is wrong, just as the packaging is cheap. But the bottle in its shape and the content, with its peppery, dry-spicy, powdery-ambered scent, are a clear and successful reminiscence of the early JOOP! perfumes. Perfumes that, no matter how controversial they may have been, must now be counted among the "classics." Products that, in contrast to today's "scents," rightfully carried the designation of perfume. JOOP! Homme Absolute pleasantly stands out from the common mainstream because it has managed to connect to the (JOOP!) tradition, readdressing the theme in a modernized form. This is delightful and astonishing. And very bold, as the stakes and risks are very high in today's oversaturated market. No one wants to take responsibility, and everything must be trimmed for maximum mass compatibility. A process that ultimately results in an individual and uniform product that corresponds to mass taste. One that wants to please everyone. What remains, however, is only an absolute insignificance liberated from every soul and spirit. Even the "niche" is reduced to merely suggesting the supposedly different backdrop in front of the usual, utterly boring sauce, of course at three times the price. And therefore, in the age of post-capitalist absolute abundance, where every last product is only more trivial and unnecessary than the one before it, a product that deviates from the norm, like JOOP! Homme Absolute here, is something that must be celebrated and is thus worth noting.

Joop - Swoke
That companies are often too timid to launch completely new scents, names, and forms has become a given - yet it still only partially registers in my mind. "Joop Homme Absolute" is another candidate that has little, if anything, to do with its pink predecessor and could have easily been marketed under a new name. No, it must be. For example, under my headline, casual, snappy, and catchy for sweet smoke. Joopies - call me ;-)

Jokes aside, what can this heavy black one do, regardless of the title?! A lot. It convinces me, for instance. And not just me, it seems. "Swo... uh sorry, "Joop Homme Absolute" of course, is a dark representative (oh really) of incense and (peppery) spiciness. Sweet, warm cuddle smoke. Not sticky, rather dignified and earthy. Straightforward and reliable. Certainly a bit boring, but at a high level. It stays true to its line, having only one real fragrance phase. But that phase is nice. Soft and powerful at the same time, hard to describe. Just don’t expect any surprises or development. Campfire, pepper mill, cuddle blanket, autumn, forest, wood, cashmeran. A pleasant mix, homogeneous and monotonous.

Bottle: black & beautiful (albeit a bit bulky)
Sillage: quite flat & close to the skin for me
Longevity: 6 hours and upwards

Conclusion: gentle, beautiful, sweet, and never sticky - a (more than?) solid Joop. Even if it’s not a Joop Homme.

An image and a person are two different things. It is damn hard to live up to an image. Elvis Presley
Joop, as a brand that is part of the Coty family, has truly had a hard time. The bestsellers were placed under Boss or the focus was on the budget sector. Thus, Joop lingered too long on its Rosarot, which was altered too much and no longer brings the sales numbers of the past. There was Nightflight, which received a lot of attention and praise at a time when there was only TV and print advertising.
Many new releases came and went. Joop Wow was a start after a long period of lethargy or almost agony.
With this Absolut, which reminds one of Luna Rossa Extreme, Coty has brought a beautiful and well-composed contender to the market.
It is from 2019, which completely passed me by.
The poor longevity cannot be understood; it performs very strongly for about 5-6 hours and is then perceived as more of a skin scent. The spiciness at the first spray lasts until the end. The pepper reminds one of the Luna, perhaps also of the Bang by Marc Jacobs, which is also found at Coty.
For a Joop fragrance, it is finally contemporary, pleasant, and despite the incense, not intrusive or inappropriate in warmer weather. It feels very pleasant even at 30 degrees and never becomes too much or intrusive like many heavy scents at these temperatures.
The price-performance ratio is good for the size of the bottle.
Is a repurchase worthwhile? Probably yes, if the price range is maintained.
One can only hope that further Joop fragrances will surprise again and shed the difficult, lifeless image of Joop.
The new Joop Homme gives hope, as the path of good products is also being pursued here.

Journey Around the World
This fragrance requires time. A lot of time. Not the scent needs the time, but the wearer. If you take this time, Joop Homme Absolute takes you on a journey around the world.

I have read in many comments that the scent does not change throughout the day, but that is not true. It changes very quietly, almost subtly, and yet, if you take the time, you will notice the transformation.

Right after application (you should spray generously), it comes on strong, smoky, rough, almost a bit salty. The first stop on the journey is reached. Close your eyes. Do you hear the fire crackling, do you hear the rocky surf? Do you smell the fresh salmon by the fire? Do you feel the cool, clear summer night? You sense the cold of the night and at the same time the warmth of the fire. If you keep your eyes closed, you find yourself at the campfire of the old Vikings.

A short time later, you reach the second stop of the journey. We land in an oriental market. But not one of those often mentioned pure spice markets. We have landed in an oriental food alley. Of course, there are spices here too. One might think the three holy kings are after our poor souls. But there is also roasted chicken. At some corner, a bearded man in a turban is selling leather shoes. There are freshly tanned animal hides. Do you hear the vendors calling? Do you feel the vibrancy of this market in the midday sun?

A little later, the third part of the journey follows.
We are back in Central Europe. Take a deep breath, keep your eyes closed.
The doors open. You step out of the gondola of the cable car. In the waiting area of the mountain station, the scent from the machine room lightly wafts through. It smells of slightly sweet machine oil. Not intrusive, you perceive it pleasantly. After leaving the cable car building, you find yourself in the garden of the mountain monastery. We sit in the arcades of the monastery. Do you feel the tranquility, the power of the place? Every now and then, the door of the small chapel opens behind us. Do you smell the cold stone, the scent of the old wood of the benches? Do you feel the draft from the monk hurrying past us? The monk wears a long linen robe and leather shoes. Right?

And now as the day comes to an end. The last stop of the journey around the world.

New York. But not up top, rather down below. Bronx. Subway Station 145 Street.
We stand on the platform. The shaft wind sweeps past us in its typical mix of warm and cold. You can smell the heavy iron grates in the entrance area meant to deter fare evaders. With us on the platform stands a passenger carrying an overflowing K-mart shopping cart full of his belongings. A bit further away, a completely battered Mountain Dew vending machine hums. The train crashes into the station. It pushes the tunnel air ahead of it, hitting us in the face. The doors open, we get on. The seats are covered in faux leather. In the carriage, there is only one passenger. It is a sailor who is wearing what? Of course. Gaultier's le Male.

Now we open our eyes, the day is over. We are back home. An exciting journey lies behind us.

Feel free to think I'm crazy, but that's how this fragrance affects me.
Similar emotions can only be evoked in me by "Heaven by Chopard," which hasn't been around for almost 20 years.
Even though the two fragrances have nothing to do with each other, they are both impressively unique to me.

Very similar to Bentley for men Absolut. The Bentley however has a bit more focus on the sandalwood and smells overall of higher quality.

A smoky perfume close to Encre Noir in the dry down. Like an incense stick. It's nice but won't buy again. Bad performance

Similar to Loewe 7 but a little more dark. Frankincense and black pepper. Misteryous and sensual. Great option for winter nights

Very peppery incense, lightened by the other ingredients so that the scent becomes sweeter and more pleasant. Much better than expected.

Pleasant surprise, a spicy wallflower with enduring sweetness and subtle smoke. No cheers, but a nod of approval.
