Sugar, yeah, sure..
How the hell is sugar supposed to smell? Was so my ulterior motive when I pulled out of the metal can the small vial. Schwupp, on it with it. And lo and behold, there is actually a nuance of sugar apart from the caramel, which does have a smell of its own. I am surprised.

But what jumps out at the nose quite hard at first is a very very dominant cardamom. If you don't like that, you'll hate this scent. Cardamom mixes here but very organically with a fine, sweetish cocoa note and is rounded off by sugar. In combination, the whole thing seems a very little bit like coffee, but it is obviously not.
There's also a familiar Kerosene smokiness hiding in the depths. Whether it's burnt caramel.... Well.

Then, with time, the composition becomes softer, less cardamom-heavy and overall almost oriental. But under gourmand flag.

Great surprises the fragrance does not offer. Compared to other representatives of the brand, it is rather of medium intensity and what for cocoa lovers I would say. For me though typical Kerosene a candidate with guilty pleasure. But not enough for the bottle. In the vial is still something, let's see if in winter my impression is different

Pyromaniac loves pastry chef
I swapped samples with a dear fragrance lover and she kindly sent me Sweetly Known as well.
I know Kerosene DNA as smoky, burnt and slightly synthetic, which is why I was slightly surprised by the many surprised comments here. I think you either love it or you hate it, there's probably no in-between.

The fragrance opens with a bright cardamom, not synthetic and simply delicious. I also detect a coffee note that reminds me of Followed.
Gradually, the burnt caramel spreads, but it is wonderfully rounded off by the soft musk base. It's like sniffing a freshly caramelized layer on a creme brulee, 1:1 that's how it smells to me.
In the dry down, it becomes a little more mysterious, less sweet and more spicy.

The following image comes up in my head:
A coffee house where a dark-hooded pyromaniac is sitting opposite a brown-haired, rosy-cheeked pastry chef. The two are on a date, still in their work clothes. His cape reeks of smoke and her apron is still full of dough and caramel residue. An unusual couple, but heart-warming when she feeds him pieces of caramel and he makes her giggle with his naughty jokes. Rum for him, cocoa for her.

Recommended but definitely not for every day.

Sweet and spicy cardmom/caramel/sugar mix, nice follow-up to Winter of 99
This is my second wearing of Kerosene’s latest release, Sweetly Known, a sweet and spicy mix of burnt caramel and cardamom, primarily, with a notable element of sugar, and finally vanilla and cocoa, though for me, the first three notes tell most of its story.

As in my initial wearing, I am inclined to compare it to Winter of 99, a more molasses-based sweet-and-spicy vanilla scent and the preceding release from early 2019. Sweetly Known is more deeply rooted in the cardamom and sugary burnt caramel, rather than molasses, and is slightly lighter overall than Winter of 99. Still, it packs a punch, and is spicier overall than Winter of 99.

It’s really very easily enjoyable, clearly apt for the cold weather but not overbearing to the point of being unwearable on, say, a summer evening. And despite the prominence of cardamom, it’s rather delectable in a candy sense, still quite sugary, despite the vanilla and cocoa notes not factoring too prominently into my experience of the fragrance.

Sold via the house website as well as Indigo Perfumery and Indiescents, both great boutiques, Sweetly Known has the same exceptional pricing as its predecessors, at $140 for 100ml.

Gourment paradise
If you love carmel in a slightly dry form, this fragrance is for you. I have a feeling that recently it has been reformulated and reminds for a while or two Followed (lovage-like note), however it still makes me happy, especially during the day, when I need energy. I like this combination of burnt sugar and cocoa, and also that each listed note really appears on your wrist. Such a sweet story, perfect around Xmas time.

Thee cardamom scent
A sweet, caramelly and a little boozy fragrance from the get go. Sweetly Known is verging on gourmand ATM, but it isn't overpowering or cloying, to my surprise looking at the notes. It is somehow light.
After dry down, however, cardamom is revealed and it is gorgeous in composition with the rest of the notes! Sweetly Known has arrived at gourmand.
The scent reminds me a bit of Cardamom Coffee by Lush, but it is less pungent and actually wearable.

That is on paper, I'm sure that as soon as I spray myself, we'll have another story.

As expected, the fragrance is amped up on skin. I get more booziness and the cardamom is in for the ride from the start! Sweetly Known, though very different, is a lighter version of Follow by Kerosene, in my opinion. It doesn't have a coffee note per se, but the cardamom and slight note of burnt match remind me so much of Follow. I found Follow absolutely mouthwatering, but not that wearable, whereas Sweetly Known is perfect for Autumn and Winter as a signature scent.
I could smell it for 6+ hours and the experience was so pleasant.
I kept sniffing, and back home after a long day at work, my boyfriend asked "you own that, right?". Answer is, unfortunately not, but his reaction to that was "you will. It is delicious!".

Sweetly Known is what I wish I had, I absolutely adore my Unknown Pleasures, but it is an absolute BEAST that wears me, not me it, whereas Sweetly Known makes me feel so confident and sexy that I just need this in my collection!
