Interesting leather fragrance
I titled this review "interesting" because of the interesting transitions the fragrance makes as it evolves over time. The opening is quite pungent. There is the leather but there's also a stinky scent typical with oud fragrances (even though oud isn't a top note). The stink is more the cheesy kind instead of fecal. To be honest, I didn't get much of any rum note.

As it dries down, the stink disappears and it picks up sweetness and a floral note appears. I can't say really if it's iris as in the pyramid. Whatever it was, I didn't care for it very much. This stage lasted a bit, maybe an hour, and the floral component lessened gradually over time.

Eventually, Hard Leather came back to a strong dry leather scent. The leather didn't strike me as dirty or oily or even animalic. It seemed more a plain, clean leather, almost like a new pair of leather shoes. This scent lasted a very long time even as the projection had diminished significantly by this point. Another way to describe it is it's a leather scent with nothing else but the leather at this point. Unlike, say Guilty Absolute or Cuoium which are leather plus something else. Perhaps more like Ombre Leather EdP, but with a way stronger leather scent.

Longevity was very good with good projection for a few hours. All things considered, Hard Leather is a nice scent but I have reservations about adding it to my collection. The price is high and a smaller 30ml bottle isn't available, plus there's the cost for shipping from France to the US. I also seem to prefer "leather plus" scents rather than straight up leather like Hard Leather.

Unabashèd Funk
This is a classic example for me of scathing reviews being strongly instrumental in my choosing a fume. The previous reviewer said everything I wanted to hear! There were certain comments that might be considered to be off-putting in an absolute sense, such as the one about misproportion; but I found those easy to accomodate by reason that, well, greyhounds are in a sense misproportioned, but one might very well require a dog with very long legs, and the dachshund is misproportioned, but one might well require a dog that is tube-shaped with disproportionately strong jaws; or - this being the figure for this 'fume - one might well require a Tibetan mastiff or Argentinian doga. Actually, those dogs are really very nicely proportioned actually, unless one consider their neck muscles & head to be out of proportion, which one might. Anyway, I'm not plying this figure anymore: I've well made the point, and I'm probably beginning to create the impression of trolling the previous reviewer! I'm not: I also appreciate proportion & balance; but sometimes I just want something outrageous & diabolickal & utterly thunderous & - well, indeed - unabashèdly funky & feral. And that was the impression I got - and fræ many other reviews also - and that is the fume I ^have^ now got; &, well, I am well chufft, I can tell uw!

Very helpful Review 4
leather pose
The trend toward dense, smoky-woody perfumes is not particularly new. Nasomatto Black Afgano was an early example and many perfumes followed its blueprint closely. The trend has been given new life by the abundance of synth-oud accords. Hard Leather smells like a hopped-up version of the oud accords I’ve smelled many recent perfumes. Imbalance and the extrait concentration suggest that quantity was used to define quality. Early niche models of the smoky, tarry, vanillic perfumes such as Lonestar Memories or Patchouli 24 are as strong as Hard Leather but are rich and nuanced.

The durable, dry, woody aromachems that I assume form the shape of Hard Leather are forceful and need a judicious hand to prevent them from becoming the bull in the perfume shop. It’s fair to say that while Hard Leather is as potent as it claims, it is also unbalanced. Heavy synthetics overpower any other materials that don’t shout and the perfume’s chief characteristic is disproportion.

The name says it all. Not about the perfume but about the fantasy the LM Parfums wants you to buy into. Hard Leather strikes a butch pose similar to the spectacle of masculinity you’d see in professional wrestling. The difference is that professional wrestling has a campiness that allows it to be melodrama and comedy at the same time. Hard Leather has the gravity but lacks the irony.

The Old, Worn-Out Pair of Leather Shoes
Uncommented scents, number....oh no, that wasn't me at all. ;)

Jokes aside: If you've ever wondered what someone smells like who drunkenly drools rum onto their musty old leather jacket, which at some point was rubbed with beeswax for a refresh, then you have arrived at your destination. Hard Leather by LM. Congratulations. For those who want to read on, here you go:
In general, I am open to leather scents, as some may know. So, testing Hard Leather extensively was only a matter of time and to be honest; it was okay that I didn't have it under my nose for a long time. Its opening reminds me of civet due to the animalic notes that ooze from the bottle but quickly fade away. The mentioned civet is a bit musty and once you dive deeper, the scent threads unravel and the civet was never there.
Leather in the opening? Check. Old, greasy, and brittle leather that has seen a lot, let's be precise. It hasn't been cared for in a long time and now rum has been spilled on it. Annoying, because now the old musty note of the leather comes to the forefront. This can certainly be unpleasant in a bar, depending on who you're with.
What definitely does not help to elevate the scent at this point is shown to us very clearly by Hard Leather. Honey. It has something of beeswax for leather care here. Leather naturally needs to be cared for; it should be supple and not brittle. Anyone who has owned or currently owns leather coats or jackets knows the problem that leather loses quality and scent. With the first leather jacket, you don't think about care yet, I know. Some try to save what can be saved, using beeswax to free the leather from dryness. Unfortunately, this moisture sometimes comes too late or needs to be applied very frequently. This is how this perfume smells.
It ruthlessly reminds me of a pair of leather boots I sometimes wore many years ago; it was rather coarse leather, rugged. Or my black leather jacket as an apprentice. Especially the shoes desperately needed care. Back then, I was inexperienced and unadvised in this regard, and so I cared for the shoes more poorly than well. The result was worn-out, brittle, and thus damaged leather shoes darkened by beeswax, but it was too late! Fresh after application, it smelled just like only leather mixed with beeswax can. And after everything the leather shoes had experienced. A mélange of dirt. Unfortunately, for Hard Leather, the perfume remains slightly musty and otherwise smells just like that.
Here, I suspect the incense, which does not add a fine nuance to the scent but rather fuels the already somewhat sufficient work and catapults it to this dirty leather level in a dirty and not smoky sense. I do not want to go into all the notes, as LM should be able to deliver much better scents. The result here is not catastrophically bad but also not good. Only out of sympathy for leather do I give this high score.
In this sense, I want to call out to LM: It doesn't always have to be leather.

New boot leather overwhelmed by dry, dirty oud with an amber/gourmand base. Could do without the silly price tag.

The ambery woodiness of "Black Oud" sophisticated and decorated with some leathery notes. With the higher price as well.

A strikingly masculine start (spices, leather, rum)
Later it gets animalistic (fur, sweat, hormones)
Everything fits together perfectly. I think it's great.

Between sweet rum notes, a hint of leather, sharp cleaning product, and smoky honey... Before Parfumo, I would have said: dead fox... yuck ;)

Here, animalistic tanned leather dominates, reminding me of fetish, as the background is charged with brutal eroticism: No, thanks!

5 seconds leathery-warm...then animalic-fecal...haven't tested such a disgusting scent in a long time, I don't dare a second skin test!

The animalic note is still fresh - it can't quite decide between oily and black leather.

It feels like there are a thousand bars and behind a thousand bars, no world:
It smells like in a puma cage.

This leather starts off quite wild, boozy, and animalistic. After the relatively intense beginning, it becomes sweeter and tamer.

LM packs everything in that hits hard. Urine-like opening, leather whip, later honey. In the end, oud. Too bad. I liked it for 5 min (in the middle).
